Why no links? They're not irritating and they don't take up much space.

Kosta

OK, since I'm open to suggestions, we'll limit that to no annoying or inapropriate links

I've got my signature aswell now
I believe it isn't breaking any rules

You did a nice work, especially the "Stroggy" with the flag effect.

Stroggy
30-08-2004, 03:53 PM
its temporary
I'm working on something better.
On a graphics site I have a signature filled with little animations and things like that. But that one was way too big. all the other signatures I have are way too big aswell to put up here so I made something new fast

It was obviously very simple to make
rotate flag
paste jerusalem skyline
insert mask
insert gradiant
write text
rotate text
add ripple effect 45%

Some of us (ME) don't have a computer big enough to have Photoshop...and it will proabably be slow..like evrything on my comp...

All i have is "Paint" :(

Stroggy
05-09-2004, 05:03 PM
you can make some pretty stuff with paint aswell.
A lot of my first signatures and avatars were made in paint.
its a usefull program as long as you have enough time and you know exactly what you're doing and how to do it

I don't know how to work in photoshop, so I made my avater in paint, too (just cuted genious from the rest of the pic).

For thoese who can't afford paintshop, or have used up there 30 days, try The Gimp. Its an open source advance paint thingy.

Here are the rules for signature pictures:

- 60 * 450 pixels
- 30 KB in size
Hey, I was just wondering if these limits still apply. I think that they should, but I am seeing an increasingly larger number of people with pics in their sigs that are way bigger than this, and it is annoying.

Iron_Scarecrow

I have no problems with the lengthy ones that don't take much room down the page, like Freddy's, Wormpaul's or Stroggy's. But I do have a problem with Caged's one, nothing against Caged of course.

But if I do that then I can't see Stroggy's or Wormpaul's.

Stroggy
16-12-2004, 01:49 PM
You could use firefox and install the adblock option and then adblock the signatures you don't want to see... but that may require switching browsers and that may be a bit too much to ask for something as small as an annoying signature.

Iron_Scarecrow
16-12-2004, 02:11 PM
It's also too much to ask for something so small as my brain. LOL

Stroggy
16-12-2004, 02:13 PM
You just install the internet browser called Firefox, install a plugin, right click on the signature you don't want to see and click "adblock image" and its gone

It`s funny, but is there anyone who can tell how to place picture in my signature, cause I really don`t now how to do it.
Ps:I`ll follow the rules= :D

Stroggy
16-12-2004, 02:31 PM
I don't know if you can upload it directly from your computer to the site...
If not its best to put the signature somewhere online, perhaps on photobucket (http://www.photobucket.com) and then link to the picture there.

Yavor
16-12-2004, 02:34 PM
Look...I`m not sure I understood you.I was thinking that somewhere in my profile I have to point the picture in my PC and that is all. :ok:

mouse31e
16-12-2004, 02:39 PM
I'm pretty sure signature images can't be uploaded.

You'll have to put it on the net somewhere, I use 2and2 (http://www.2and2.net) for this kind of stuff, and then link to it in your signature. :D

Stroggy
16-12-2004, 02:40 PM
There is.
In your control panel under "personal profile" but you don't upload it from your computer, you need to upload it to the internet and then specify the the URL of the image.

Iron_Scarecrow
16-12-2004, 02:43 PM
Well if you have to do all that then I ain't going to bother making one. :not_ok:

I do that with all my images, so I will make myself one. :D

Stroggy

you could send it to me and i'll upload it somewhere for you.

Fawfulhasfury
16-12-2004, 02:46 PM
I already have an upload site that stores most picture formats, and now that I know how to change formats, well... but thanks anyway. :D

Iron_Scarecrow

I'll think about it. But I don't think I ever would have gotten around to making one anyway. But we'll see.

why is the height only 60 pixels? it wouldn't really harm anyone if you raised the limit to 90 pixels and the size to 35/40kb to be honest

Maikel
09-01-2005, 09:02 PM
It wouldn't hurt to keep it 60 also.

<- not a sig fan.

Eagle of Fire
09-01-2005, 09:03 PM
Same as Maikel here. And I don't think your sig is too small now Wormpaul. It's fine, I see it perfectly.

JJXB
09-01-2005, 09:08 PM
what im asking about isn't exactly unreasonable now is it? if i was proposing changing the sig limits to 200kb 500x600 i'd understand perfectly, but theres a difference between that and suggesting a 5/10kb increase in file size and 30 pixel height change, isn't there?

Maikel
09-01-2005, 10:11 PM
Well, we had a lot of sig discussions here and most people don't like them. It may sound reasonable to you to have bigger sigs, but a lot of people wouldn't like it, therefor it won't happen.

JJXB
09-01-2005, 10:25 PM
if people call this (http://img115.exs.cx/img115/3378/sc2sig7qt.jpg) too big then thats a bit mad imo (i have viewed it on 56k as well and it doesn't take as long as you may think) and anyway, if they don't want to view sigs, there is an option in the user control panel, isn't there? (i.e. in board settings "Do you wish to view members signatures when reading topics?")

Maikel
10-01-2005, 06:54 AM
one sig doesn't take long to download, but if everybody is using it, it will. But anyway, It's not going to happen. You just have to start up trusty old photoshop and cut 30 pixels out of your precious sig. :D

JJXB
10-01-2005, 07:21 AM
im not going to bother continuing my attempts for you to see reason. im not going to downsize my sigs either (i did it once and i don't plan on doing it again) im not happy but i can tolerate the fact that your being a tightass on the sig rules due to the fact i can come up with smartass suggestions as well

goblins

i think the smaller the better - status quo seems acceptible its the quality of the posts not the sig that matters. Still allow it to go up but the limits are acceptible

Eagle of Fire
10-01-2005, 07:34 AM
If you really want to be such a smart guy JJXB, could I tell you that what I really think of sigs is that only text should be put there? What's the point of images anyways? There is nothing you can do better with images than you can do with text and links apart from in the distraction area of course...

goblins
10-01-2005, 07:44 AM
Text only might be going a little to far but keeping it at 30 pixels or 60 pixels is good.

if you feel that way, refer to "board settings" in the user cp:
Do you wish to view members signatures when reading topics?
set that to no and your worries about images in sigs will be over *he scores again!* :D

I'm not trying to be a tightass. I just want you to see you can't always have things the way you want it. That there are other people with different opinions then you have. Might want to think about that.

You are not scoring at all JJXB, you are only showing to everyone else that you don't care about other oppinions. You could say that you are showing to everyone else that you don't have team spirit, if you want a sport term?

JJXB
10-01-2005, 11:38 AM
well the reason im coming across that way today is because im feeling a tad uncharitable so excuse my ignorance if you can (basically, i don't care about anyone else right now). but having a crap day can do that to you.

You can use IMG for signature...

Just for some input about sig pic sizes, I have found this (http://s7.invisionfree.com/Evolution/index.php?showtopic=505) forum's guidelines for signatures to be very good. We might be able to implement something like this and keep everyone happy?

LOL at that crazy forums huge essay on dimensions. some people have WAY too much free time.
why on earth would they let the height be up to 100, and the width 500 but not at the same time? the height=100 version already takes up 100 pixels of someones page, so shortening the width is completely pointless.

22-01-2005, 11:45 AM

JJXB

authsor, don't bother trying to get them to change the signature rules, i tried VERY HARD and they did not budge (even though my suggestions were reasonable) so i don't see a damn thing in hell you'll ever be able do to get the rules changed.

But a 100x500 pixel image is 50000 pixels while a 100x100 pixel image is only 10000 as is a 20x500 pixel image. The difference in filesize and loading time would be fairly significant though, as you say, visually it would make very little difference!

thats true, but they could still set a maximum filesize, and if people could fit one into that size (png-8 format maybe?) then it would be all good.

for me, as long as a banner doesnt make the horizontal scrollbar appear at 1024x768, im not bothered. its the HEIGHT thats all important. too high and its too intrusive and also means people have to scroll more.

JJXB
22-01-2005, 02:29 PM
ffs, i gave up trying to get the rules changed because no admin would see a reasonable change in this ages back, what makes anyone else think they can do it?? whats the point in trying to point out some reasonable boundaries when they won't be accepted??? thats the one thing that frustrates me most about this board.
