It's one of these (which one depends on your sense of humor): Escape from Delirium
Flight of the Amazon Queen
Freddy Pharkas Frontier Pharmacist
The Leisure Suit Larry series
The Space Quest series

In descending order:

The Curse of Monkey Island (Monkey Island #1)
Legend of Kyrandia #2: The Hand of Fate
Day of the Tentacle

The Curse of Monkey Island has more jokes per square mile than anything else I've ever played. Just my point of view.

Without a doubt:

Monkey Island 1..

What a great game :bleh:

Both Monkey Island 1 and 2 are great but I would also recommend SImon the Sorcerer 1 and 2 they are soooooo funny. Unfortunatly these games aren't available from here .

Actually can someone tell me if Simon 1 and 2 are abandonware or not?

Chz :),

Well do you really think we'd bother reviewing Simon 1 if we didn't hope we could put the game up?
Unfortunately it's not abandoned and probably won't be for quite some time...
Simon 3D came out just a few years ago so all three games will be sold in packeges for some time...

And about the funniest game - well I haven't played the all, but I'd have to go along with...

tataratatata...

Cavemans Ugh-Lympics.
Too bad it isn't an adventure, so I'll have to think of another :bleh:

It's:

Zak McCracken and the Alien Mindbenders!!!
I mean - which other game let's you switch your mind with a yak???
Which other game literaly makes you go out of your mind (just let one of the aliens catch you)!!!
And which other game throws you in jail, for computer piracy???

Hmmm... on the site? Maybe Hand of Fate. That was always one of my favorites, anyway. But the actual answer would be Monkey Island 3.

Edit: Whee! This post makes me a forum hobbit. I feel somewhat initiated now.

You know, I'm of the opinion that Monkey Island is highly overrated. It's hilarious, sure and a treat to play, but it's not worth arresting the development of the independent adventure in order to have people create their own tributes to it. Granted, many of these adventures are similarily fun to play, but... Let's move on a little too. Which I think is actually starting to happen, now that I mention it. So I don't know what my complaint is.

I really liked Freddy Pharkas. And Callahan's Crosstime Saloon.

If you ask people about the funnies game on the site, you shouldn't be surprised people name a few that aren't on your own shortlist ;) NFI

My personal top 3:

1) Space Quest 1 (the VGA-version is even a bit more funny than the EGA, IMHO)
2) Zak mc Kracken and the Alien Mindbenders
3) Monkey Island 2 (How much wood, would a woodchuck ckuck...)

Freddy Pharkas Frontier Pharmacist is definately the funniest.

You must know that these actions were made instead of typing commands. You could either open or close something (in the old text based adventures), so both commands were added. It's not the same if you open a door or push it. With newer games it's bothe the same command - but you get less choice there. If there would be a magic door you could either open it and go to another room - or push it upwards and have a door to a secret passage... But I guess you're one of the younger kids, so you don't apreaciate that sort of thing... Oh well...

And for "what is" command, well it was a very useful one in it's time. You see old text based games gave you a list of objects you could interact with. When they started with point and click games that option wasn't there any more. So you could wildy click at every little pixel until you got the right one, or you could switch to "what is" and just scroll over the screen and objects you could interact with apeared. This was you didn't have to click on object you can't use, just to find out they're a part of the background picture.
The most useful aplication of this command however was in Zak McCracken, when you walked into a dark room many times and had to light up a torch, or get a bird's nest to make a lovely bright fire. You couldn't find those objects unles you used "what is".
Hope oyu'll see why these commands were made, why they weren't stupid and probably realise that without these commands you wouldn't get the simplified version you prefer today!

Damn. I did forget Sam and Max. That's shameful! Consider it moved up to my #2 slot, right under Monkey Island 1.

Anyone try it?

Perhaps it wasn't the #1 funniest, but I loved Gary Owens (the voice of the Narrator) on Space Quest 4 and 6.
He just had the perfect voice for the sarcastic humor.

He was the announcer of Garfield and Friends, the voice of space ghost, and some other random voices and parts. And I just learned that he voiced Powdered Toast Man on Ren and Stimpy. Brilliant!

You know that Gary Owens was also a mainstream tv quiz show announcer in the 1960s, one of the best known, who as a result was asked to do the surrealistic announcing voiceovers for all the Laugh-In shows? That's how he got his start, although he doesn't seem to have been used much until the last decade. I suspect his voice acting is a lot better than his on-stage, visual acting, which would explain why he's made such a hit with animated series and computer games.

And that's not meant as a diss at cartoons or games. Cartoon voice acting in particular is a very difficult field, and there have been some real giants in it.

Sam and Max would have to get my top spot. Monkey Island would be a second.

To me, Sam and Max was a game I could play over and over again to make sure I clicked on everything.

LL: Love for Sail was great as well, IMO. :ok:

On the same topic, I thought John Rhys-Davies was really awesome in Quest for Glory 4. Anyone else agree?

If I'm not mistaken, Monkey Island 2 was the one that I found funnier, but I could be wrong. Both of them are great, hilarious games :)

EDIT: Both meaning Monkey Island 1 and 2... I forgot that there's a 3rd one, hehe.

space quest 5 is by far the best. the dialogue, the throw-gags in graphics where you see his refuse spaceship, the "Eureka" actually looking like a large vacuum cleaner. Stuffing a banana in a killer android's tailpipe, and even the added game of playing a 3-sector battleship game against egomaniac Captain Quirk, it has it all. You'll be dying as you take your starcon aptitude test, and chuckle as space monkeys splatter your viewer. And yes, Elvis is alive and well in space quest 5!

I think Monkey Island 3 is the funniest, mostly because it has voices, and a pirate barber named Haggis. But I'm quite stupid, so I don't play so much adventure games.

Most LucasArts and Sierra On-Line adventures have superb humor, but I must say I had the most pun with Callahan's Crosstime Saloon!

I can't help but get a kick out of the Leisure Suit Larry games, that gets my vote. Though the Monkey Island series ramnks high as well

The Secret of Monkey Island. An incredible number of fine one-liners stuffed into a tiny little jewel of an adventure game.

I am from older generation:
- Larry series were funny,
- at the early times Gobliiins and Goblins2-3 were also very funny.
Later with better PCs ceartainly come more possibilities to make a game funny... :)

Most certainly the Secret of Monkey Island and the Day of the Tentacle.

These two are unmatched (I am a big fan of the Monkey Island series, but I'd go for the tentacle this moment).

It's hard to point out a single funniest game ...

To name a few:

- Sam & Max. It's totally insane comedy and unlike anything else.
- Monkey Island 1&2: well, no need to explain I think :p
- Flight of the Amazon Queen: some parts are hilarious (gorilla dressed up as a dinosaur anyone?)

Personally, the Sierra adventure games don't quite make me laugh. It's a bit like American sitcoms: a lot of corny jokes but none that really make you fall off your chair laughing. I do enjoy the spoofs of the many sci-fi movies & series in Space Quest though.

Monkey Island series FTW!! Some other adventure games that did have me laughing in places were Legend Entertainment's Eric the Unready and Companions of Xanth.
