I just downloaded the zip again and I ran a McAfee scan and I found the same trojan: Exploit-MS06-004.gen. Can anyone else chime in with a scan?

SpybotS&D didn't notice anything, AVG free didn't notice anything, just McAfee. It quarantined the trojan. Anyone else with McAfee who can run a scan? Just wanting to be cautious.

Just ran the file through the online site Virustotal.com and out of the 41 virus checkers 4 found something (2 were McAffees so really only 3).

For whatever reason, McAfee is detecting a trojan. Can't someone just run the zip through the scan and quarantine the file, then resubmit it here?

I'm betting the "problem" has to do with the fact the game is trying to adress the hardware directly. :p

I ran the zip archive through the scan, though. It seems that Microsoft addressed it in a patch- they say it is a vulnerability in the way IE handles Windows Metafile (WMF) images.
Is there a protocol in place for any case where we might detect malware, is this typically how we should report our findings? Wouldn't it be better to run the zip through the scan and remove the offending file? I realize that it probably wouldn't be a risk to most people.

Sorry guys. It seems I uploaded only the first part of the game. I thought two folders meant two different versions, but it seems these are two parts. the one you've been playing is the first part, of course. I've uploaded the second part in the new archive. Now you can find them there in two different folders: dylan1 - the one you're playing now, dylan2 - the part that continues the story. Each part has its own JPEG Code file: Codici_1 and Codici_2, which you can find in their respective folders.
Surgeon: I don't think you've reached the second part, yet. Unfortunately, the uploader doesn't visit the site too often and there are no walkthroughs I think, on the internet. Maybe you're lucky and Shadow Stalker will visit in the following days.

Hi guys, I am puzzled that I have to asks this, but is there any save function in this game? And if yes, how do I utilize it?
I have unzipped the folder unto my harddrive and I'm running the game with main1. I did try dosbox (with d-fend reloaded), but the game seems to run better for me directly from windows. I do not know if this has any relevance to saving the game.
I haven't got any sound neither with nor without dosbox (although this has generally worked for me with dosbox reloaded), but that is not a main concern. I'd be happy to play the game without sound, but having to play through it in one settings seems a bit cumbersome.
At first I considered if a had to play to a certain point before any auto-save or checkpoint was made, but I got as far as having Sarah Foulkes move in with me, and yet I have to start over if a close the game and reopen.

To save you must operate the drawer near the library in dylan's office.

I would say that we're just being cautious, I was the first to post a malware report. I ran the zip through McAfee and I have cleaned out that 'malware' generating file. Can't someone upload the cleaned zip back here to prevent future posts of this nature (reporting malware in Dylan Dog)?
Microsoft should have patched up the exploit, so if you're keeping up with the Windows Updates, the malware should be kept in check.

Could you send me somehow the Secur.pal files that you can find in the "P" folders of both part 1 and 2? These files are probably responsable of the copy protection, so I don't think it has smth related to the sound.

I took a minute to compare the cleaned zip with the 'detected' zip, there are two files that are removed, Ani1.ani, one in each folder Dylan1 & Dylan2.
It is the animated cursor file, and windows has been vulnerable to malware through the way it handles animated cursors. I don't know if this is a false positive or not, but removing these files doesn't seem to disrupt game play, though I don't know what the animated cursor looks like compared to the cursor I have been using.
The issue with the sound, since the instructions are in Italian, I'm not sure how to follow the directions, so I haven't tried, yet.
Do you need to install the game in order to configure the sound?

And you are sure it was an animated cursor?

I've seen the ANI extension associated with animated sprites (and animations in general) in older games.
Are there any other ANI files in the game directory?

I'm not sure what it is, I'm only trying to be helpful. Those are the only .ani files in the archive.
There are only 2 Ani1.ani files, one for each directory, Dylan1 and Dylan2. The file is only 23KB. I assume it was for a cursor, but I don't know.

What are you talking about? Using Trend Micro antivirus it detected only the secur.pal as viruses :doh2: Can you please check with your antivirus the archive on HOTUD.org (http://www.hotud.org/component/content/article/38-adventure/22858). If the results are also positive, then forget it. It's just the original files are detected as something else, and can do no harm to your computer.

I was explaining what McAfee removed from the zip archive, the Exploit-MS06-004.gen... It is related to the Ani1.ani files.
My point isn't that they are problematic or potentially harmful - I don't know, it is that other people might come here to post warnings as long as those files are in the zip, so maybe someone can post a note on the download page to disregard the malware warning if they run McAfee or Fortinet or Comodo scans.
I don't have Trend Micro available, so I don't know what's going on there.

I got the same warning from HOTU's archive. It is the two 23KB Ani1.ani files that trigger McAfee to report the exploit. It could very well be a false positive, or an archaic worry that was patched by Microsoft, or who knows... :)

So I'm playing the game on a mac using dosbox, and I'm starting to worry if the cycles need adjustment to correct the timing of the game. It runs at 3000 cycles default but I'm worrying if this makes the game too fast as I only get to visit about 2 or 3 places in the day. I've turned it down to about half but couldn't see any real difference, I guess you don't expect to as it isn't a really graphics/resource intensive game.
At the moment I'm stuck as soon as the 20th comes on - the writer appears saying that the last two chapters need a complete rewrite, and the game is returned to where Sarah comes to stay with Dog (end of the 18th). Btw, can you talk to her at his place then?
The 19th I can visit the detective and get the address for the fencer. When I finish talking to the detective I go to the fencer, talk about everything to him (showing him the photo and finding out about the prism) and next thing I end up at home, Groucho is talking about the failed human cannonball, and Dog sits thinking that he needs to go back to the antique shop. But before I get a chance to do that it seems the evening is done and the writer comes up with the "need to rewrite two chapters" story. I also wanted to go to the library again because I know there's the second Lovecraft fellow who will ask me to back off of the Ctulhu case, but there's just no time. And I don't know where to talk to Sarah anymore.
And just to check, there isn't a way to move about a room or from one part of the room to another, is there? I'm talking specifically about the Astec collection cabinet at Foulke's house, I can see that the glass is broken, but I can't get closer to it to inspect.
And finally I'm wondering whether I can use items in my office with items I've picked up? I want to use H.P. Lovecraft's works or the Ames book (both about Ctulhu) with the burnt letter or the other mysterious letter from the H.P.L. guy.
Any replies will be greatly appreciated! I see this thread isn't the most lively but maybe someone can help me :) I'll keep on trying and see if I manage something else.

Okay, I'm actually playing this game, it's a little difficult to manuever. Try showing Su-Bam everything you have, even asking about the things in his store, like the clock etc.
Next go to the library, you will meet a man named William Pickman there. He will talk to you then he'll leave. You won't be able to ask him any questions
Read all the books in the library, some have some information in them. Then go home.
I did this and finally got past that part. But it really isn't one thing, you just have to be thorough as heck.

Okay, this one is tricky. Before you go back to the antiques store, stay at home and read all the books on your book shelves. There's one on the bottom that said that Su-bam was a fencer I think (you may have already read that one) but there is one on the second or third shelf that mentions that they believe that Su-Bam had a secret passageway.
You need to read that in your own bookshelf before you go to the antiques store.
The pull back the curtains and examine the clock, it will pull away revealing a secret passageway. But the passageway won't be revealed until you read it in your books.
Weird I know but that's the way this game works.

I was surprised to find out that Dylan Dog comics, claimed to be "widely unavaiable" outside of Italy, are actually adored in countries with considerable number of Croatian speakers. For a few decades it has been one of the most popular comic books to be found in any newsstand in Croatia, Bosnia, or Serbia. Published in Croatian, it is a bestseller in former Yugoslavia, along with another Italian comics sold as "Zagor" (originally: "Duello"). Cheers to comic fans in Italy!

I am surprised that you guys are surprised. Yugoslavia had many successful Italian comics. I think you can even read that on wikipedia... I know Dylan also had some English publishing, not sure is it England or States, but obviously didn't get similar attention by far. Yes, I think it was USA because of Groucho trademark legal issues they invented bald Groucho and gave him another name.
anyway, yes it was big in Yugoslavia, it is still published and read in Serbia, don't know about Croatia and Bosnia but I would be very surprised to hear that it is not published there anymore.
And not only Dylan. Alan Ford was probably the most successful comic in Yugoslavia. Also there were Tex, Mister No, Zagor, Commandant Mark, Great Blek, Marty, Corto Maltese... these comics are part of childhood for many of us born in 70es and 80es.
Personally, I guess I could say Mister No and Dylan are my favorites. I have to smile when I remember that when I was very young I didn't want to read Dylan because it is horror and I was scared :) I'm glad I eventually started. Big thanks to "Happy Thursday", local publisher for still publishing Dylan.
Oh, BTW, I was in London 2 years ago and went to find Craven Road 7 and see what's there. I found Cafe with people barely speaking English. They offered Dylan Dog meal with red meat included... well, I guess they were just told about significance of address and tried to make some money out of it. I added that info on wikipedia page, since I find it interesting. Also, it seems that now the cafe is called Dylan Dog.
On Craven Road 7A however is a very tight hotel. I went in just to look around and ther was this chief guy who is Greek and told me he used to notice people coming and looking and taking pictures. But he learned about Dylan shortly before I got there, because he hired Italian couple to work in hotel so the guy told him about Dylan. So I spent some time chatting with this couple and moved on. I gave suggestion to this Greek boss guy to create Dylan Dog bell with screams, but he didn't exactly liked the idea. He was thinking more like to create one room as Dylan museum, but he ain't really gonna do that either. Oh well.
London have nice little museum at Baker Street but is not even aware of Craven Road... nice street though, I actually managed to fail to find it on foot first time I tried.
Anyway, check it out (https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Craven+Road,+London&hl=en&ll=51.514956,-0.176736&spn=0.000508,0.001321&sll=51.510366,-0.134072&sspn=0.065064,0.169086&oq=craven&t=h&hnear=Craven+Rd,+London,+United+Kingdom&z=20&layer=c&cbll=51.515016,-0.176625&panoid=usCvUzOXlVr0qV-WcuTJ7w&cbp=12,147.88,,0,5.87).
