I was JUST thinking about this tonight while watching a movie. When I came upstairs to check out abandonia, I saw that you added Tiberium Dawn (I thought it was Tiberium Sun?).. talk about coincidence. Anyways... for the past few months I have been trying so hard to get the original Red Alert installed. I used to spend hours upon hours playing this game. It's far better than any other game they've made.

I've got the CD's, but something is wrong. They're not playing. The CD's may be too scratched up, or they just might not work on XP, I dunno.

Is it abandoware yet?

The original C&C is far better than Red Alert in all aspect IMHO.

Red alert was also very good :ok:

Red alert is still openly available.
I bought it recently in a DVD-box.

It cost a bit more than a plastic ruler so its not as if the price is outrageous.

Yep, still for sale. Saw it in a Media Markt a couple months back.

Hmm, ok. Well... if anyone has it, do you know if it works on XP for you? I looked around and supposedly it does.

I'll probably end up buying this DVD set since it'd be good to keep a clean copy for such a classic game.

And the original C&C is better than Red Alert 1!? You're crazy. Red Alert 2, now that sucked. Generals is nice... but although it's graphically amusing, its gameplay just isn't the same =(.

I agree

I enjoyed both of them, but I used to play C&C for hours while RA didn't give me the same feelings

I liked them both.Red alert rocked with aftermath and windows patch. It had skirmish as well.Tiberiam dawn would be the best game EVER if it had skirmish but without it it is still a good game for 36cents off amazon for new! :ok:

Can anyone tell me where this DVD is that has Red Alert and its expansion packs? I've been looking everywhere but can't find it.

I have this on CD. But when I go to install it it says it only works on Win 95. I got XP. Is there a possible way to fix this?

I know :ot: I'm sorry.

I agree with Eagle too. The original C&C rocks more than red alert. :ok:

well, the site i mentioned in my post hasn't been asked to take it down so theres 2 possible suggestions to ra's abandonware status:
1. he has permission from westwood/ea
or
2. they don't mind it being put up for download without their permission (which could possibly mean it can be counted as abandoned)

Woo! Everything is working fine! It runs on XP just dandy, AND I remembered the coding that gives chronic ore. God I'm gonna be playing this for a while.

Released as freeware now. (but not the expansions...)

Now, does anyone remember how large was a ripped copy of the DOS version? We might be able to put it up on the site. (after the server problems are resolved)

Downloading it at 400 Kb/sec, I'll finish in 30 minutes

I'll provide a link to the cellar when they'll shut down the site.
