Looking for a game named Arcanum, it was a RPG kinda like Baldur's Gate if memory serves me correctly. Any help in finding it would be greatly appreciated.

Your best bet is on Amazon, Yahoo, or eBay. It's still being sold.

Uhm... a 2001 Sierra game... what made you think that one was abandoned?

Amazon and eBay, that is just people selling their copies, not actual stores. Point me to an actual store still selling the game. Also to the person with the "Uhm" comment first it can be spelled "um or umm". Second there isn't anything on Sierra's site about the game and since no store is selling it, I thought that it might be abandoned. Thanks for nothing but a waste of time.

Well, IDK what stores are around you so no luck in that, but any store has the Best Sellers series and it's the only living copy which works. Go find it.

Sierra is an ESA company, which can be seen here (http://www.abandonia.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=5511). Sierra has an active ESA Protection for 20 years, meaning that Arcanum will be abandoned earliest in 2022 - that is why your best bet is second hand shops. It doesn't matter that no first hand copies are sold. The game is off-limits.

In Poland about a half a year back Arcanum was given to some computer games magazine for free. :kosta: So the cost was only the cost of magazine - not more than 4-5 euro.

More then one magazine, I believe. Gamestar and CD-Action, to be exact.

But yah, off-limits.

Hmm, I haven't noticed the CD-Action version of Arcanum. I knew about the Gamestar, because the magazine was in a kiosk near my home for about half a year - noone wanted to buy it ... :bleh: I do not know why. Maybe not only me didn't liked it :sneaky:

Actually, the problem was that Gamestar have done something with their copy - you couldn't run it in English and after applying the PL language "patch" you could not update the game to the latest patch either.

Turned out that the "patch" included on the CD actually had a No-CD crack as a part of it.
Suffice to say, many people over at Gamestar's forum have been going berserk over that (yours truly included). Of course, the mag's staff have not commented on the situation.

Arcanum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcanum:_Of_Steamworks_and_Magick_Obscura) is an isometric steampunk RPG in the same mold as Fallout and Baldur's Gate. It was made by the now defunct Troika Games (makers of Temple of Elemental Evil and Vampire: Bloodlines) in 2001. It also was (and still is) an incredibly rare game to find.

The problem is, is that I can't find listings of whether or not it's considered Abandonware. HOTU doesn't have it and it isn't in the OldWarez list either. Is this because it's such a rare game or because it's so laughably out of reach?

Also what are the chances of it making it to the site if it is Abandonware?

Thanks.

Arcanum was a good one.
ESA'd until 2017.

I think you should be able to find a few copies for sale, if you dig around various online stores. If none have it anymore, try Amazon or Ebay.

Hahaha, if Arcanum was passed, then surely Citizen Kabuto and Outcast would pass too LOL That game is only six years old LOL What about Syberia? That's almost as old LOL

I'm not looking for a freebie here, I'm just wondering if anyone knows any retailers in the USA that might carry it. Otherwise I'm gambling w/ ebay or some such site...

Amazon has a few: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00...p;condition=all (http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00004TTHT/ref=dp_olp_0/002-1262960-5277608?ie=UTF8&condition=all)
The prices are quite outrageous, though.

Other than that... only eBay:
http://video-games.search.ebay.com/arcanum...R40QQsacatZ1249 (http://video-games.search.ebay.com/arcanum_Video-Games_W0QQ_trksidZm37QQfromZR40QQsacatZ1249)
Two auctions currently running just below $30 on US eBay.
Also, another for 17.99 on the UK eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ARCANUM-of-Steamwork...4QQcmdZViewItem (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ARCANUM-of-Steamworks-Magick-Obscura-Rare_W0QQitemZ320139770524QQcmdZViewItem)

I've ran through our list of online stores AND several different angles of Googling for the thing. Seems like it's one of those unfortunate low-supply/high-demand cases where the prices start skyrocketing after a while.

And by the way... expansion? I didn't hear about Arcanum ever having an official expansion released, so please explain what did you mean...

I have the cd-roms of an old version, and the box, but I've lost my manual...

The email in the cd jewel inlay is bouncing back. Anyone any idea if Sierra or Troika are still in the business of handing out manuals, or have a link for a downloadable version?

Thanks very much Bobbin!
Very helpful!

A working link to patch 1.0.4.7 would be very helpful too...

Is this game retired enough yet?

Also, take this patch too:

http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/arcanum/fixes/UAP081229.exe

Its an unofficial one, but it adds tons of new stuff to game that was left out/removed.

That's weird - I tried PC Scrolls and it didn't work before. Cheers Paco.

They must have more than one version on their server...

Unfortunately, I think I remember this unofficial patch crashing the game if it wasn't updated to the latest version before Sierra's FTP decided to not let you have stuff.

Sux.

It fixed a lot of stuff, though - this game really did need a lot of the bugs taken out in order to achieve the epic status it enjoy(s/ed).

I think this is one of my favourite RPG's along with Oblivion: Elder Scrolls.

I like Oblivion, but you gotta be careful mentioning it around here, its prone to heavy flak fire from ground defences..

Arcanum rocks, thankyou TC for introducing it to me, but one problem. the game is BIG, how the heck....wait no ISO it'll jsut belinked to a different site, nevermind....

Saccade

You guys kick arse big time.

This game is quality - I wish they'd sorted it out and re-released it so it wasn't bugged to hell.

I think you need to Sail the Seven Seas of the Internet to find the ISO's for this little number, but you can pick it up real cheap from places like Ebay.

I think I paid 99 new-pence of my copy.

You can't even get a "99" Flake Mr Whippy Ice-cream for that much anymore.
At the Cafe in Highgate Wood, across the road (I love having one of the only houses in London with a view of woodlands), a 99 will cost you 1.49 for a small one...

Bloody rip-off.

1p sweets are all 2-5p each too...
