Now I think I should give you back the things I had to find myself.

Am I to just wait for someone to contact me as is said in the sticky topic?

I uploaded everything that was in the list and a few more besides, just because.

If I could get back onto the FTP server, I could see which ones were removed so I know what to submit more of in the future.

Don't wanna be sending you stuff that you don't want - who needs extra work?

Hey fellas (and fellerettes),

Made a PDF with detailed help for those without the manual for Life and Death 2: The Brain. Written in PowerPoint Presentation by the same guy who wrote the one you have, I think. I've just found it and converted it - Claire's been playing the game quite a bit.

Shows how to perform the surgeries and compliments (IMO, is better than) the guide currently available for download.

There are a few things missing from the game's page (eg. how to play and personalise, etc...) that should be highlighted due to the fact that the Archive you have is not a clean install...

-----------

I'm still wondering and waiting for the Text Adventures that I've offered to review and walkthru.

Any chance of getting sent the archives before the end of the month?

I've got a pub. deadline to make at the beginning of May for a new Fables short story and Studies: in Harmony, but I'm getting sick of writing these.

Don't ever get a long term contract with a lesser publisher unless you're desperate.
V bad move.

And buy my books.
Please

Essential Documentation on how to run TADS (Text Adventure Design System) games and on DSD commands, etc...
Review
Screenshots from Mac version of TADS - available for DOS, Win & Unix
Maps

Walkthru

The whole shebang.

Just tested walkthru, having finished the game first (fun fun fun), and it does actually finish the game despite it's minimalist commands and apparent sparseness.

Use the walkthru and you won't get the most from the game though.

Depends on the priorities, matey.

I'm just working through the list alphabetically, so I wouldn't get to those until the end unless you'd want me to look them over.

When I get back to London, I'll check the cupboards for the games as I may still have a few of the Zork games.

Either way, if you want to send them over, I'll be happy to play them through and spout my opinion all over the shop.

Red Dwarf: Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers

Game (zip) - includes readme and GNU license.
Review
Screenshot

I'm going to question this game and ask for a second opinion as to whether it should really be on the site.
It's a fan project really and, because of this, means that people who aren't fans of the Red Dwarf series will find it pretty hard to figure out what to do.

I've been referring to the books it's based on and watched the TV series again and I'm still stumpted.
It's almost like the solution is there, but it just will not work no matter how you phrase it or how many stages you try to break it up into...

The mapping isn't great - it's mind bending because of using only 4 directions to move, but 8 in the map...
The parser is occasionally a pain to use as the structure is backward to pretty much every other Interactive Fiction or Text Adventure I've ever played.
The game feels incomplete in that there are typo's and spell errors and, for the creator's confidence in his parser - it isn't up to what he says it is.

This game feels like it's been made up as he's gone through it for his University course and that it just isn't a complete game.

And this has nothing to do with the fact that it's the only one so far that I haven't been able to finish!!!

There are some questions:

1. Are the walkthroughs written by you or did you asked the authors for the right to host them? If neither of these options **** we can't upload them.
2. What the heck is with those Deep Space Drifter images? :doh2: We can't upload those on site.
3. If I understand correctly you used your own copy of Abbey of Montglane? (the exe which you uploaded) I want to verify this cause we also have a copy from another user (pczelda)

Sorry for the trouble, but this really needs to be verified.

Hi Total,

1. Are the walkthroughs written by you or did you asked the authors for the right to host them? If neither of these options **** we can't upload them.

Nearly all of the Interactive Fiction and Text Adventure games that I accepted to review are freeware - this covers (as stated in the licenses that I have uploaded with each game) all the documentation that would come with it and if there are any walkthrus, most of them (if I remember right) have a similar GNU license or something that is to the same effect.
I think that the Abbey is donation but isn't shareware... as it the other one by the same author - they sent me the prequel sequel because I was reviewing it and they were happy with that.
Otherwise it would've been $10 or something to register either game for hints and stuff...

I'll go through and check all of them again.
For Raithes Castle (?? I'm not sure) I used a hintbook off the net - I can't remember where I got it but I can find it again if you want? - and, I think the hint book was written by the original authors of the game a few years after it's release.
However, the GNU license does say that they freely grant permission for it to be reproduced in it's original form only. Which I think's a PDF.

That one's not a problem and the hintbook's very good.

All the maps for all the games are made by me, even if they are a bit messy. I can re-draw them and scan them so that they are clearer if you want?

I used a walkthru for another game - as I said, I'm not sure if the first one is Raithe's Castle, I'll check as soon as I am able - but it was not great and needed re-writing.

The walkthrus for other games that I've submitted are written by me.
Either from another walkthru that made no sense or was incomplete or totally from scratch as I've made my way through the games.
Mostly from scratch as I've played the game - which is why it took me so long to do the reviews, even though it only took a few days to finish the game.

All the walkthrus I've uploaded are tested and work and I've tried to make it so that it doesn't ruin the game entirely. (eg, hints instead of answers first, actions that will lead to something funny or interesting that isn't part of the story's progression.)

I was thinking of compiling walkthrus for the games using the UHS (Universal Hint System) as I think this would be a good way to give someone a walkthru.
I did start doing one for Dunjin. I should really finish it - thanks for reminding me.

I know that sometimes, when I need to refer to a walkthru, I'll end up using it every time I get stuck for more than 5 minutes and it totally ruins the game for me.

I've got all the maps, walks, hints and stuff saved on my Mac, so I'll get round to it again later on.

IF a walkthru isn't completed, made readable, or written by me - I've likely left the introduction or appendices in which it usually states that the original author has given permission for it to be reproduced anywhere by anyone, so long as it is in it's entirely original format.

I don't know how it affects things if I've found a walkthru that is totally rubbish and made it better by re-writing it and adding things I've discovered in order to make it useful...
Perhaps you can tell me?

The only Interactive Fiction / Text Adventure game that I've reviewed and completed so far where I *haven't* been able to contact the author / compiler to discuss the game, etc... is Red Dwarf: Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers.
The guy isn't on that email any more, nor at the address and the college/university he went to do not have any forward contacts for him...

I can't get in touch with him at all. J Stenko his name is, I think.
But, again, he has included a GNU License that states that the game and any documentation, etc... that comes with it has his permission to be freely distributed.

2. What the heck is with those Deep Space Drifter images? :doh2: We can't upload those on site.

What's up with them?
I think, if I remember, that because Deep Space Drifter is a TADS game, that I used a programme called SplatterLight for Mac.
It was just the computer that I was on at the time.

Because I wasn't using Boxer for Mac (basically DosBox) or DosBox on PC, I couldn't take a screenshot the usual way.
I used the MacOS screengrab. That may be why it looks like it's a bit strange.
But the images I captured were of the TADS engine, which you need to run the game.

DSD isn't an exe, bat or com. It's a specific file-type for TADS.

Unfortunately, Deep Space Drifter doesn't run under DosBox, as the only TADS (Text Adventure Development System) engines available are for Windows or Mac.
(I didn't look especially hard, though - I already owned SplatterLight so it wasn't a problem.

I can take some others if you'd like.

There probably is a TADS engine available for Dos or DosBox - I'll try and find one and retake the screenshots.

It would be a shame not to include this game on AB as it was one of the better IF games that was on the list needing review.

3. If I understand correctly you used your own copy of Abbey of Montglane? (the exe which you uploaded) I want to verify this cause we also have a copy from another user (pczelda).
Sorry for the trouble, but this really needs to be verified.

Yeah - I didn't get sent any of the archives for any of the games, so I either had to track them down elsewhere (most of them are online at BIF's IF Archive - thanks Luchsen) but I did have a few of the other ones on several floppies which contain hundreds of IF's and Text Adventures. (most of them shit)
The TADS ones in particular are ones that I'm likely to own, as I remember trying to make a piece of IF using it when I was younger and just starting out writing.

It is my own copy of the Abbey.
It runs under windows or Dosbox or Boxer for Mac totally fine.

The one from BIF's IF Archive doesn't start... :(

If both exe's are the same size and both work, it'd probably be best to make the latest version or newest file on the site available.
I know mine works - really it makes no difference which file is used if they both work, does it..? :eh:

Didn't I include some extra files with that game executable? I thought I did.
I got totally stuck on the game, finally found and emailed the author in California who also sent me the other game they made (a prequel sequel thing) - I've yet to review that one.

I think the Abbey is the better of the two, despite it's weird Parser...

They were happy, when I explained what I was doing, for me to write a review and to make the game available for download through Abandonia and for any hint-books or walkthrus to be used and altered if I thought they needed updating.

I think that the walkthru I've included with it was the one they emailed me and I have just made the hints better and streamlined it so that it's easier to follow than the, somewhat, random walkthru that they gave me.

---------

Does that answer everything?

As I said, the only person I didn't get to speak to was J Stenko from the Red Dwarf game, as he's not contactable and I really cannot be arsed to track him down.
I still haven't finished the game.

Mind - the other games I have reviewed, such as Star Wars Chess I didn't contact the creators as I thought it

For the others, the reviews are mine, hints are mine, majority of walkthrus are mine or have permission to be reproduced by the authors.

That's the reason I included the readme and license text files - so that it's obvious that the agreement allows the materials to be used.

If you still think there's a problem with the games, reviews, hints, walks, etc... let me know so that I can prepare another one for whichever game is the offending collection of bytes.

It took me quite a long time to map everything out and write everything, so if you're not going to use it - please let me know so that I know not to bother next time.
I could just write a better review instead of expending energies on something that you can't use.

I've got the emails from different people saved on my Mac (for some strange reason). If you need me to, I can uncompress them and forward them to you so that you can verify everything.

I'll definitely see if I can find a TADS engine that runs in DosBox as I really think that Deep Space Drifter would be a good IF game to have on the site.
I'm sure there's some way of getting a decent, usable screenshot even if I can't find a DOS TADS engine...

Thanks for letting me know, Mr Anarchy!
Just give me a shout if there's anything else matey.

Take it easy,
Pete

:omg: I just read a book.

Ok, walkthroughs and all material are fine (well except that read me that has only a postal adress written in it) and we'll use your Montglane .exe because you already tested it. But the biggest problem are the screens:

1)We need the original screens, how the game looked originally.
2)The screens are too long, we primarily use 320x200 (if the game has only one supported resolution then we resize it to make it closest to this, like 320x240). The site automatically resizes the screens and if we leave them as they are you wouldn't understand a thing, believe me. I don't think you'll even know that it's a text adventure.
*Of course if there's no way to obtain (to run the game) the original screens we can use the current ones and just crop the important parts to obtain the desired size.

Are these the Screenshots from Deep Space Drifter Total?

When I get back later on, I'll have a search for a TADS engine that's compatible with either Windows or Dos.

At least with Win, the images can be put into Fireworks or Photoshop easily and resized - cheers for the dimensions.

If I can't get it to run in DosBox, do you want me to upload a few versions of different TADS engines to the TFP, or just make a note that the review needs to include links to places to download TADS?

As you say, if worse comes to worse, I can always just crop some images from Splatterlight for MacOS so that they are legible and are acceptable.

Eh - you know what they say:

"A book a day does something something something..."

Take it easy mate.
I'll post here when I've completed everything you asked for.

I think it'd be abandonware, but I'm usually wrong when I try and guess.

Just cos i'm finding it boring to play through enough to review as I'd rather be playing Global-Thermo-Nuclear War. It's similar but better, IMO. (I think that was the reason I stopped playing airstrike in the first place.)

I couldn't get it to work in Boxer, which is why I got Splatterlight for Mac. The files I had were just a .gam and no .bat .com or .exe or anything...

- Walkthru / FAQ
- Cheat Codes

These may need a bit of formatting, as I've copied them as RTF... They look fine in TextEdit.

Also - I've ripped out the bits which have gamerfaqs "official" :notrust: stuff over everything and the parts about the original author.
Original text is here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/564794/2004

Not sure where we stand with that. Thought I should tell you.
The Copy Protection Codes are pretty important and can be found in several places on the internet just by using google.

- Boxshot - Really poor quality, but the only one I found... Shouldn't have bothered uploading it, but I'd already done it before I though of this.

[All on FTP]

------

Drugwars - review, screenshot [is text based]
Druglords - review, screenshot [is text based]
Chickens! - review, screenshots

I'll dig these back out and upload them again soon. Sorry they went missing - don't know what happened there.
Will let you know when they're back on the FTP.

Well if you want to use the walkthrough, you should email the writer for permission, he'll probably grant it to Abandonia. For sites like GameFAQs, the author is the owner of the document, the site merely displays it, so don't want them to come and say Abandonia took their stuff without permission (GameFAQs has a board where authors post sites that take their stuff without permission).

Cheats are another matter, since apparently they're too "short" (plus usually they're just a list) to have the same respect as a walkthrough, so they get copied all over the place. For example, just google "space rogue" "all.des"; all the entries are just copies of my original entry on GameFAQs (without permission).

I think that I'm going to re-submit the Deep Space Drifter review with a new one.
Since Total sorted me out PCZelda's archives, I now have the .exe file.

The game file I uploaded was a .gam which is for TADS.

I think that having both the exe and gam for download would be good, as a few of the other IF games I'm reviewing are also in TADS format. It's a bit like SCUMM but for Text Adventures.

I'd like to add that there are two versions to the review, as I prefer the TADS one.
It's a lot easier to use and because it is in a continuous format, you can just scroll back up to re-read other descriptions and re-examine areas and objects without having to travel. Some games reduce your score for each action, which includes movement.
Being able to go back over things from wherever you are can be really helpful.

Okay - I'm going to start organising the games and reviews that I've already submitted / am yet to finish.

When everything I can provide for a game (Game, Reviews, Walkthru/Hints, Screenshots, Extras & Boxshots) is finished, I'll move the relevant game from the first list to the second one.
When it's there, I'll highlight it.

--

This isn't so much for you guys as it is for me - I've lost four or five reviews and other bits recently and I don't know if it's my transfers, them disappearing or me forgetting to upload them.
To make sure I don't lose anything again, I've just made it all a bit tidier so I can see at a glance which games need more work and which ones don't.

When they're totally ready, I'll make a new post with the game title and what it comes with.

eg.
Abbey of Montgane - Game, Readme, Review, Hints, Walkthru, Screenshots.:owned:[On FTP]

Hopefully by doing it this way, I won't have to try and figure out why certain files aren't on the FTP server when I thought I uploaded them and then don't know where they even are to submit them again.

Hmm, impressive. That's a lot of stuff.

We actually prefer the original version with the cracked one (or cracked exe) uploaded as extras, if available. You should upload it, anyways.

You can upload the rest, I think. :) (Including all that stuff for DSD)

For now, nothing has disappeared for me. But who the hell creates those MM_CASETEST and XYIZ... folders, on the FTP? :oh:

And about Subwar 2050. Since Xhumed offered it first, we'll consider his version. We're still waiting for him to upload it, though.

Saccade

It'll be more impressive if I actually manage to get it all done, Total, I think...
That's my new goal for my spare time on the computer, since I'm not going to look for more work until after we get back from holiday; Just write about and play games and all that for a while. Relax and stuff.

Idk who makes the folders... Can you not check the log and see which IP logged in that time, then cross-reference it with a user-account IP from the forum?

Okay - I'll remove Subwar2050 game from the list.
Do you think that Xhumed will be doing the review as well?
Considering that I have been uploading games and not doing the reviews, I think that I have created quite a back-log of things to do!

If someone else will take Subwar2050 review, I would be very happy.

Well, I suppose I will get round to it eventually... It's not one of my favourite games, though - I prefer more "real" submarine sims like Wolfpack. Subwar would've been better if it was faster and more like WipEout HD.

Or even Descent...

Thanks for giving me the copy codes for Time Quest.

I was wondering - as I'm just organising all my writings and works for Abandonia, if it may be possible to sync my FTP folder with my PC..?

If I can get both my FTP folder and my PC in sync, I don't think there will be any more missing files and it will mean that I can get more reviews done a lot quicker, as I have them well organised and know what I'm doing next...

The things I am missing on my PC and Mac (and everywhere else I've looked) that are in my FTP folder are:

- Darkseed 2 - Walkthru

- Dungeon Hack - Copy Codes, Walkthru, Boxshots, Review and Screenshots.

- Red Dwarf - Review.

- Spy Vs Spy 3 - Review, Screenshots, Boxshots.

I think that that's it.
Not as bad as I though.

If anyone could do me the massive favour of letting me download them, so I can file them, that'd be great.
I've several other games to submit, but want to clear the lot in the above lists first.
By having a mirror of my FTP folder on my Datastick, PC and Mac, it means that I have everything in its place and my productivity will go up a lot.

I plan to have the reviews and everything else for all the above games finished and on FTP by the end of the summer.
I think it's doable.
Thanks Luchsen for sorting me out the other files I was missing.

Cheers,
Pete

I don't get it. So do I need to copy-paste each file url, instead of giving the link to the entire directory?

1. The Floor 13 Transcript is not a scan, as it is just a sheaf of A4 papers that have been printed out - You can't photocopy them as they come out black due to a watercolour background. I think it's in the form of a load of "official" documents because it fits in with the game better this way - official documentations, etc...
The end result is a 16 page long .doc from 20 pages, loose, in a foolscap folder.
If anyone has the original manual, maybe it's best to use that.

2. I've found the Red Dwarf Review on my old Laptop - so I no longer need that.

3. The Dungeon Hack stuff, I've noticed that Vanshilar has uploaded too, so there's no need for that, either.

4. Darkseed 2 Walkthru is probably available online somewhere, though I couldn't find one (which is why I wrote one) and I can probably remember how to get through it again in order to write another one, should the need arise.

I still haven't finished the UHS file for this Walkthru yet.

5. Spy v Spy 3 - Since the entire lot's on FTP, I only wanted this so I could complete my files. It's not important. I only wanted it in case it went missing or something, so I could just upload the whole lot again.
I'll try the method that Luchsen's outlined, but if it doesn't work, it's not the end of the world.

So long as it's on the FTP and you guys can use it, that's the important thing, eh?
I only wanted it to ensure that it was written correctly and that the formatting was correct and that, if it was used, there were no problems.

My Logs show that all transfers are successful, but I will double check them in future and also post them along with content uploaded - that way there won't be any mistakes or room for me to be more stupid than I am.

Thanks guys.

I have already scanned A Mind Forever Voyaging Manual and was going to upload it today. Have you scanned it already?

Scanning manuals can get time consuming and tedious so I usually wait until there is at least a review for the game. Otherwise your work might not ever see the light of day.

Saccade

They're all scanned and ready to upload, Geezer!
The ones that aren't hard-copy are just .txt files, so there's no problem either way.

Some of the games, like A Mind Forever Voyaging are already on site but lack the original manual and a hintbook / UHS or walktru.
There's no problems there.

As for the thing about the reviews:
I have been writing a lot of reviews for text adventures and it's nice to be able to submit the whole package:
Game files (for whichever format; several versions perhaps.)
Review and screenshot
Walkthru
Hints / Hintbook
Manual
Boxshot
any other extras

It's what I'm trying to do, so that the games I review don't get lost in the machine.
All the games I've submitted I'm working through this way. Sometimes I get help, which is nice.

You're right mate - it is a lot of work and it may not ever get on the site.

But the reward is in the satisfaction of knowing that these games are being kept alive and not lost.
There a part of history and they're (perhaps most importantly) fun!

We're moving house, so I've found some stuff:

Pending response to other thread:
Unprotections/Lucasarts?

I have these - they will work in Dosbox (though not too many talkies) on PC, Boxer on Mac, or many, many platforms using ScummVM

BASS - SCUMM
Broken Sword 1 & 2 - SCUMM
DOTT - Dos Talkie/floppy SCUMM
Drascula: The Vamp Strikes Back - CD SCUMM
Flight of the Amazon Queen - Talkie Dos SCUMM
Full Throttle - SUMMM
Gobliiiiins - CD SCUMM
I Have no Mouth but I Must Scream! Dos SCUMM
Indy Jones, Temple & Atlantis - DOS SCUMM. Atlantis is Talkie
Inherit the Earth - Linux Dos CD Summ
Loom EGA - Amiga Dos SCUMM
Loom VGA - Dos SCUMM Talkie

And Background Audio Book for Loom - good find!

Lure of the Tempress - DOS SCUMM
Maniac Mansion 2 - (Maybe to go to AR?) SCUMM
Sam & Max - DOS CD SCUMM
The Dig - CD SCUMM
Monkey Island - CD re-release SCUMM
Zak McKraken - SCUMM

I've also got manuals, as PDF's, for nearly (or all) of them.
I've got box shots made up, too.

Let me know if any of them are acceptable - I'm going to start clearing the backlog of promised material that I've been uploading.
ie, the massive list above this one, I've made the box characters (Guybrush, Sam & Max, etc).

But the banner still looks shite.

I dunno Total...

If I could get my hands on a few copies, I could tell you.

I'm confused - a lot of the things that I've been uploading are on the front page.
To save doubling up everything, can someone let me know what (on my list) is already on it's way to being put on site?

Saccade, could you edit your posts to put everything in the one post please, instead of double or tripple posting please? It makes it a lot easier to follow. :)

Saccade
19-08-2009, 09:18 PM
I find it quite simple...

The post a few up is the one which holds everything. The really long post.
It was meant for me and, as I explained a while ago, when I'd sorted out FTP issues I'd upload the remaining few things and republish the whole list.

I've got a lot of manuals to upload, as Luchsen's asked me to upload all my infocom stuff too, plus there's the text adventure games.
I've got a few other games to upload too - they're at the bottom.

Can we hold fire on me having to re-update my list so that I have the time to FTP the remaining stuff, like reviews and archives, etc... cos that'd be real helpful.

If you need it done sooner (aren't you an updater in training or something?) then just say and I'll re-organise the list for you so it's easier to understand.
I won't use the smileys either, as they're just there to confuse.
Writer's note's habit...

Either way, FTP the stuff and then organise or organise and then FTP and then do it again and again as things happen, let me know.

I prefer the efficient way.
Leave me to it and I'll get it done faster as I won't log on to chat or write lengthy diatribes attempting to persuade mum that I'll clean my room when I've finished playing.

:)

Have a nice day, Frodo - let me know what you want me to do.

We can't accept the archives, because we either have them or are PROTECTED/SOLD, but the extras seems ok to upload. The following is the stuff we already have, so it's ok to upload the extras you don't see here:

Beneath A Steel Sky (Protection Codes, Graphic Novel, Walkthrough, Manual, Boxshots)
Day of the Tentacle (manual, boxshots)
Drascula (we have the game archive, review, screens, and boxshots)
Flight of the Amazon Queen (walkthrough, boxshots)
Gobliiins (Manual)
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (Manual)
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (Manual, boxshots)
Loom (book of patterns, manual, quick reference card, copy protection codes, boxshots)
Lure of the Temptress (Manual, Walkthrough)
Monkey Island (Manual, Dial-A-Pirate, Boxshots)
Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders (Walkthrough, Copy Protection Codes, boxshots)

The rest are SOLD/PROTECTED and in the same time not on site, thus you shouldn't upload anything related to them.

And the Dos/Mac version of infocom engine.

You can of course upload all boxshots you have/can make. And for the rest: I don't know who came up with that "no uploads of protected games and double docs", that was never decided. We need the games for when they become unprotected, and when a native-digital doc isn't the same, it's good as well. Scanned docs are never the same and digital docs have different versions. I know that double docs can pile up that way, but it's better to have all we can gather. In extreme cases we then have to decide which we take (quality, filesize, historical worth, originality, date etc.).

Saccade

I guess there's no harm in having the games on the FTP - just unavailable...You reckon I should upload the ScummVM stuff? Or things like Image of Full Throttle?
I don't want to take up hosting space that isn't needed.

Perhaps there could be a time limit, in anticipation for when a game retires, before uploading certain things..?

Re: Boxshots for all of the stuff I've recently uploaded
My copies are from old floppies - the boxes are gone. But there're probably some good places to get decent shots... These games are classics and an important part of gaming history.

I have a few of the legend ones, however, and will get them sorted.

I don't know whether we have some of the games already (and I'm not into SCUMM). But the hosting space doesn't matter, it's all about the traffic you can afford. :)

I'm gonna have a mega-upload session (make sure all the stuff I've put on FTP recently is 100% there and replace borked/incomplete transfers) when I get the new broadband account - this one here is becoming really unreliable.
I just had two dropped links for an 800Mb file that took nearly 12 hours to upload.

Basterd paper-insulated copper wires.
They may've been okay for 1940's telephone, but they're crap for data traffic.
I hope we can get optical broadband at the new place. I think the cables are in down the hill towards Archway.

Didn't see the bit at the end of the review that said the manual was there.

:mhh: I have the manual for Quarantine, but it's the 3DO version... (lots of nice FMV in game and cutscenes)

What the fuck?!

Where's the new ftp stuff gone?
This is taking the piss, man. Filezilla registers everything as being successful (idk if that means good upload though).

It takes fucking AGES to make all the folders, one by one, and then piss around making zips and stuff.
THEN IT DISAPPEARS AFTER A FUCKING DAY!

Am I being spectacularly retarded here or is there something up that I'm not aware of?
Is Filezilla being shit?

It's not much time, but an hour of clunky organising and battling through fucking timeouts every bastard few minutes - for no fucking reason - is really starting to piss me off.

I might contact them and let them know that they are, "selling my software - be prepared for a major lawsuit, pirate-scum!!!".

Lolez. Thought so too.

Ok, first thing. All MAC games are [REJECTED]. We only accept them in particular cases and then it is decided by the admins.

Since the version of Circuit's Edge is from an unknown contributor, you can upload yours too. The review was "taken" by Alumiun, but he's not really active in the last 2 months.

I removed this from the list, as Paco reminded me not to submit MSX/Sega emulator games.
Shame, as it's a good one.

For some reason, I thought there was a DOS version. :oh:

Switch is a graphic adventure, also known as "Panic!", I think.

Are you sure this Switch/Panic game has a DOS/Windows version?

Also that game from Garage Games, Robot Battle, is [REJECTED] since it's too new.

Nah - sorry. It's another Sega image. :whops:
And if there's a version of D&D: warriors, I'd like to have it.

Forgot to include: Amazing Adventures of AnsiDude - Game (review on its way).

I'll post a mega list when I've finished today's uploading.

I found this wonderful series (http://www.mobygames.com/game-group/densha-de-go-series). Yet another reason to learn Japanese. Just imagine to play one of these games on a GBC while on the train. :D

Cool, there's an anime series! :woot: But it's too long to be published in German. There's an anime shortage (read: discrimination) in TV, and the DVD publishers can only afford short famous anime series. :(

Shotgun I get to upload and review Magic Carpet, in prep for its unprotection next year :D

I have the CD still, but not the boxes.
I'll try to find them when I'm back home, but I think I lost them ages ago.

Will try to compress the hell out of the CD so it doesn't go into ISO Cellar and we can have CD version on site (though idk how big the CD is).
If not, I'll find the disc version online or maybe someone else will submit it.

Hey, Saccade. I'm going to check the quality of the Infocom manuals, and compare them with the ones already on site. I'll post later in this thread which are worse and need to be deleted from the FTP.

Arthur - The Quest for Excalibur manual differences. The one on site has colored covers. The one on site is divided into 2 separate downloads: Manual and Maps and Documents, while yours contains both of them in one single document. Your manual has smth extra: the warranty card and the last page which explains the story. The one on site has an extra section about "Communicating with Infocom".

Decision: I don't know.

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, The manual differences. Yours is almost completely different, but misses most of the written stuff. Has some strange stuff in it.

Decision: I don't know.

[TO BE CONTINUED]

Ok, I decided, I'll upload most of them as alternate manuals.

Reviews:

Timequest - Incoming imminent, need to tidy up
Viz - Incoming imminent, need to finish writing
Portal - Old "IF" game, need to tidy up
Nam 1965-1975 - Finished Manual, will upload later
AnsiiDude, Amazing Adventures of - half-way through writing
Wolfpack - Finished through notes, started review
Floor 13 - Finished manual - I'll upload it later
Magic Carpet - Finished notes, started review
Lane Mastodon Vs The Blubbermen - infocomic, incoming imminent
Cubic Tic Tac Toe - Started Review, can't find notes.doc... Will play again

Text Adventures [need archives for those listed without subtext]
Alice in Wonderland (finished notes, started review)
Enchanted Castle (finished game, have notes)
Humbug
Jacaranda Jim
Red Dwarf: Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers (NOT review on FTP. That one's shiter than usual)
Skyland's Atar
T-Zero
Unnkulian Underworld 1
" " 2
any other text adventures that I've missed off the list...

Incoming Imminent has been that way for the last 3 months, so read "imminent" as "when I get round to it"

I guess if anyone wants to take any of these games, then they can have the notes (if they want them) and write the review and stuff.
Don't care so much about this any more, really.

I replayed Castle Ralf and a few of the older IF games again the other day, and I think I was a bit harsh with the reviews.
I'll get around to fixing them up a bit later.

Not that it matters, since no-one ever d/l's or rates the IF games... :/

I can't make posts in the ISO Cellar anymore, so here's the mediafire link for Magic Carpet for LQ, Doubler and anyone else wanting some Magic Multiplayer Action:

Magic Carpet.zip (http://www.mediafire.com/?dwjtixjnjka) (90Mb)

Since the filesize is less than 100mb, idk if this was gonna go onsite or what.
I put it here so we can play it sooner :D

To upload over the next few weeks.

Maxis stuff win/Mac stuff:

SimIsle: Windows game and Manual.pdf, interactive manual (can convert to pdf/txt), Boxshots, review
SimLife: Windows game and manual.txt, interactive manual (can convert to pdf/txt), review
SimFarm: Windows game and interactive manual (can convert to pdf/txt) - also can upload more complete version of Dos game, no files missing. review?

UnNatural Selection: Dos game and manual.pdf - poor scans (of all), boxshots review

Manuals are better than hotu rips and / or / text transcripts with correct pics inserted, available as Pdf or Doc (depending on my effort levels)

Others:

Darwin Pond: Windows Game and manual.txt - no cd-music. music files missing. Review
Accursed Toys: Lab of Life: Windows game, inc. win manual. (cellular automaton) Review

Game of Life: Dos game (cellular automaton, not board game) review

I never thought someone besides me would write a review for that. ^_^

Saccade

Ok, I am having problems with stealing the music files from Simisle IF the directory in which the original archive is unpacked.
Therefore, in order to minimize and (hopefully) stop this error occurring, I've changed the path to c:\games\similse isntead of c:\docsnsetts\user\admin.pete\desktop\similse....

I've started writing my reviews for all of these (along with the other 8 I have on backlog, so will have them done soon, unless Arete wants to take SimIsle, though she doesn't have the manual for that...).
I would transcript these manuals for windows, so they can be used with dos, but considering my typed manuals are never used, I'll leave this to someone else unless I'm asked t
o make them.

99% of work here is wasted by me, and I don't want to make it 100%.

The adverts for the games are ok, but I will need boxshots for the ones we don't already have.
(ie, UnNatural Selection - mines really low-res) and the Win Versions of the Sim Games).

Anyone want to help, with the boxes and the manual..? Yes/No?

[ed]
Apart from that, they all work, claim to be original (not hotu-ripoffs) and will be ready to be uploaded as soon as I've compiled everything and completed reviews over the next few weeks.
Still working on, AVS game for AB and AT and also on the online respositories.

Questions..?:
Include Manual as separate extra or manual incl. in archive as PDF/ZIP or txt?
Also - bother with Mac stuff? Runs in Classic OS

Am I also right in thinking that Nonogrids: www.nonogrids.net - www.bpgames.com - isn't acceptable..?
