Want to write a review on Abandonia? Here's where you can "announce" about it.

Want to write a review but dont know which one you should do? Well, you can check this topic, you'll find some lists.

Some game submissions that might need a review (http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=19041)

Now, If you have a game and review to offer, dont post here. Make a separate topic out of it in the Offer section. If you actually wish for a game, rather than write a review of one, make a topic to the Request section.

Thank you for your time.

Is Arctic Adventure the one where you are a penguin skating around in a 3d person racing type game?

Allied General is not aka Panzer General 2; they are separate games.

I can probably review Achtung Spitfire, although I no longer have it... I would much prefer to do Flight Commander 2 if it ever graces us with its presence.

No. (http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/arctic-adventure) Isn't the penguin game a flash one?

Allied General is not aka Panzer General 2; they are separate games.

It is. And the separate Panzer General II is aka Panzer General IIID.

Err... Digger?
I saw two versions of this game, and I have a remastered DOS version of the one I think you might need.

Is this the one what you need? If yes, I make a review of it with a full load of screenshots :)

Both versions would be good. Just do a review of the original, and add the story behind the remake and the new features to alter it for Digger Remastered. Do you need the original?

Do you need the original?

If you wish to send your version, then I'm appreciated, because I don't have that one. (And I think it wouldn't even run with DOSBox, because it needs a genuine CGA card for an IBM PC.) On 'remastered', I mean, remastered to DOS. It's also done to other platfroms, such as Windows, which has both an older one made for Win95&98, and one called 'Digger XP'.

The official website of the one I have is http://www.digger.org, if you need some info, and the download of the version I currently have.

I noticed that someone listed Mortal Kombat as having a short review in another thread. I checked it out, and it is indeed a very short review. While I play some LHX Attack Chopper so I can write a better review of it, can I call early dibs on Mortal Kombat? I've played the hell out of that game, so a review for the PC version would be no problem.

I would also take Lethal Weapon and Spy vs Spy series... but thing is that i wanted to review Lethal weapon few years ago... and it still can't work properly in Dosbox. Can't say what it is, but you cant start the game...
As for Spy vs Spy series... I remember someone asking the company that produced or published Spy vs Spy 3 and they said that they still publis some CD like their old hits compilation or something... so it is never really abw...

Try this. Open "my computer > shared documents". Right-click on a blank space in there and choose "new > folder". Call it "dosgames" for example. Now drag that folder, with the left mouse button, and drop it over DOSBox's shortcut, DOSBox will run and mount that folder as C:\. Then mount your CD drive, entering in DOSBox's command prompt «mount d "X:\" -t cdrom», where X is your CD drive's letter. Then run the installer from the command line. When you're asked for the installation path, leave "c:\kom".

well first of all, the game is in iso cellar like for a half a year or so

second of all, there's a step by step video tutorial (http://www.google.sk/search?hl=sk&ei=JBqtSZWOJJCK1QXKjIDNBQ&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=how+to+install+kingdom+of+magic+dosbox&spell=1) i made for some newbie in troubleshooting loong ago=P. it's a pity that i noticed this talk only now

and then, ripping kingdom of magic would be kind unreal since whole the magic of the game is in it's annimations and sound effects=/

A Windows access problem as I thought... Now with Vista lots of people are getting that. If only DOSBox was user-mode compliant... It's as easy as using different folders. I think I'll post in the DOSBox board at AR right now. EDIT: Finally posted on DOSBox's own forum.

However if you tried back when you ran Windows XP, presumably as admin, I don't know why it didn't work. The compatibility database (http://www.dosbox.com/comp_list.php?showID=3046) says it worked with previous versions of DOSBox.

It ran absolutely fine in Windows 95. But I just couldn't get it to work in XP or Vista (until now :3:). I just kept getting the 'Invalid Directory' message, no matter what I tried.

*kicks the stupid Vista* :bleh2:

Windows user-mode compliance.
Should be in 0.73.
http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=7745&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=120

:)

Windows 95 runs DOS apps natively, no wonder it worked.

Vista is safer because of this. Not just anyone can modify important files behind the unwitting user, and that inclues viruses, drive-by downloads, etc. When you have these problems with legacy apps, you can always install them under the Shared Documents just the same.

School Bus Driver

First one(Bugs Bunny) is sent to Fifth over an month ago, I realy don't know what is he waiting for, its a small archive, it could have been placed on site 100 times by now. If he lost the stuff I sent him or something, I can give it to someone else to upload it on site!? :wall:

I'll start writing the review of Magic & Mayhem as soon as Bugs Bunny gets on site. And I'll upload everything through this FTP of yours so that there will be no further obstacles for uploading my stuff. :max:

Gah, I'm not having much luck here. :bleh: I had a look at my Shannara rip. It's 567 MB, which I'm guessing is too big for the site? And it has the Underdogs logo in the intro. If anyone has a smaller rip, that would be great.

Sorry for the following outburst:

Noooo! Don't review the Mission Critical rip! The rip is HORRIBLE. How can you play an adventure game when you cut out the bits that contain the story? The actual game comes on 3 CDs - you really can not cut out the movies and still enjoy the game. I was disgusted with this rip over at Home of the Underdogs because it was so useless. It rapes the game.

Or in short: we should either have all 3CDs or not have it at all. It wouldn't reflect well on us by hosting a game if the rip maims it too badly.

Frodo
12-03-2009, 11:23 AM
Hmm, I played it a little bit last night. I must admit I'm slightly disappointed cos I have no explanation for how I got into the currant situation at beginning of the game. I guess it was explained in a cut-scene?

Seems like it could be an awesome game though - it has atmosphere. :)

It's quite good but like you said: you'll miss the story without the numerous cut scenes. I first played the rip and didn't really notice the lack of cut scenes because it's not always obvious but I thought "christ this game is lame - how was I supposed to know I had to do this and that" only to buy the full game and then see crucial vid clips that give clues and provide the story that is nearly missing without the clips.

Urrrggghhh! I reached a section in Mission Critical that just wrecks the whole thing! :(:doh2::no:

The rip has all cut-scenes removed, and it's very hard to understand the story, or what is going on in general. Now I have just finished a 'conversation' with someone, but I couldn't see or hear what they were saying - I just saw a black screen. I could see my responses, but they don't make sense, cos it's a one-sided conversation. I'm guessing most of the information I need is in those missing cut-scenes. :(

I'm sure the full game is amazing, but I'm really not convinced that this rip should be on Abandonia. Should I still go ahead with it? :oh:

Text adventures - the ones you listed!

Abbey of Montglane, The
Deep Space Drifter
Dunjin
Enchanted Castle
Humbug
Jacaranda Jim
Hampton Manor
Castle Ralf
Skyland's Star
T-Zero
Unnkulian Underworld
Unnkulian Underworld II

These tend to be unpopular, but I love them - it'll just take me a while to finish them all, write hints and walkthrus and reviews.
I'm not claiming them all, take them if you want them, but I'd appreciate being considered having dibs on at least a few.

I've finished the Spy vs Spy review, boxshot and screen-shots. They're all ready for when you want them. That way, if the other guy does it too, then you have two to choose from, eh?

You're alright mate - I've played Heimdall to death...
I was just offering the prelim notes.

I've got a load of Text Adventures to get through. I'm having some problems with the Unix conversions for a few of the interactive books, and the various engines that they use, that means a lot of tidying up for hint-books and walkthrus.

Getting them to work in DOSBOX or Windows (as most people here seem to use PC's) is the challenge atm.
I'm working off a Macintosh this week, but I've got a version of DOSBOX called Boxer installed that works - it's the other game engines that are proving more troublesome.

Like Unix?

Got a pain in the arse?

(I ate too much dark chocolate over Easter and didn't wipe very well this morning, so I'm gonna answer "yes".)

I was just offering the prelim notes.

Ok Saccade, let's clarify this. From your words I understand you have already written a review for Heimdall 1? If so we should put your review. Maybe I don't understand and there's this second possibility that you played to death Heimdall, you didn't review it, but want to do it. If so, then we also use your review, because of course I never played Heimdall before, so basically you're more suited to review this game.

And I want to ask you to list all the games you're going to review in a single post, in this thread. Because I'm really confused. I'm not sure what I'm allowed to review and what not.

This would certainly be easier if I could speak Moldovian...

I must disagree with you on the suitability factor for this reason:

Heimdall 1 - "Played to death" = "I am bored of game and will probably give it a bad review; It'd probably be better if Total Anarchy did it, as he will review the game with fresh eyes and not be biased. Just like someone downloading and playing the game for the first time."

Which is what you're doing, eh, Total?

Simply put, I've made notes on every game I uploaded. If anyone wants them, they're welcome to have them.

To be honest with you, the notes that I make when writing are pretty nonsensical to nearly everyone but me.
Looking at them now, they are just short sentences that make little sense unless you are me and have the connexions in my brain.

It was just a friendly gesture. :) No big deal, man...

Jesus, I should learn to keep my mouth shut sometimes.

Finished Shadowcaster review, but having trouble uploading the archive. The file I have is "scaster.rar" and is about 8MB, but I get a permission denied message about half way through the upload.

Anything over 100mb. This is because the number of downloads from AB is so huge and the bandwidth usage so high. Something like 1 terabyte over three months.

I think the largest game we have on site is 150 mB-ish, which is System Shock.

Don't know if anyone's said they would yet - Can't tell if Luchsen's on it or not...

Timequest looks pretty interesting. I'd have a go at doing it and writing a walkthru and stuff (If I can... the last walkthru I tried, I couldn't finish the game and gave up).

I don't have the game and hadn't even heard of it til I read about it in the Chronoquest request thread, so if it's available - could I get the archive?

I do have the originals but it doesn't matter to me which we use. Did you upload manual, box shots etc? I don't have the game installed on my PC so if you want to use a pre-installed version we can go with yours, Chris. I can upload the disk images and any of the extras if we need them yet.

I would still prefer the originals. A proper PDF-scanned manual is way better than the text-file which I've submitted. We could use my pre-install and add your disk images as extras, as you suggested. Also, boxshots would be great to round up the package. :)

Sounds good to me. The manual is not very impressive ... very few illustrations. I will scan it and then we can judge. There are two other documents besides the manual. Mission Briefing Papers and the Interkron Trouble Shooting Guide.

I can write some reviews on three "5 Star General" series games that are missing from the site: Allied General, Star General, and Pacific General. I can also write a review for War Wind as well.
I would offer to provide the games themselves, but there is only 2 things stopping that. 1. I don't know how to upload the CD-ROMs; and 2. All four are still listed as being "Sold" on the Oldwarez List.

Hey, dkw! Thank you for your offers! I've just re-checked the status of these games. Unfortunately Allied General & Star General are stillprotected through ESA.

Allied General [Mindscape Entertainment, 1995] [PROTECTED]
Star General [Mindscape Entertainment, 1996] [PROTECTED]

Mindscape is a subsidiary of Ubisoft, who is an ESA member. That means their games have a protection period of 15 years after release.
We'd love to have them on site, but as there are still copyright holders, we are not permitted to host them.

As Pacific General was published by SSI and as there are no buy-links, this game is approved for Abandonia.

Pacific General [Strategic Simulations, Inc. 1997] [APPROVED FOR ISO CELLAR]

Still, the game has to have a size of <150MB to go to the site. If you can provide an image with this size or less, we'll be glad to put it on site. If the game is larger, we'll put it into ISO cellar. Just drop me a line by PM, if you need help with creating images or uploading them. Your contribution would be very appreachiated! :)

Hi Lemming.
Starwars went up on site a few days ago.

I'm doing Timequest and have almost finished the whole lot for it to go up on site - Review, Screenshots, Walkthru, Hints (eventually UHS file) and including a decent boxshot this time (unlike with Spy vs Spy III :embarrassed: ).

Chessmaster I can send you as I'm not sure it is up on FTP yet, but it is on my list of things to FTP when my bloody new router gets here!!!
I will put it for you in the same place as I did WITICS and PM you the link next time I visit my homepage.
Then you can just click my name, go to my homepage and download the relevant .zip / .rar

(btw - I think that I have found a keygen for Winrar that works consistenty. It gets rid of the annoying pop-ups. anyone wants, I can put that up too.)

WITICS - idk if I can crack the copy protection and idk if Geezer can find the manual.
The Desk Encylopaedia the game's copy protection refers to is an actual book - if we could find and aquire the right version (mobygames has the info) then we could just make a copy code list for the game..?

OR we could find another version of the game (not sure which one) and just run the programme that cracks it for you, like X-Wing and all that...
I haven't found one that works with it yet, but if I do - I'll let you know straight away.

Luchsen, I believe, is also looking for a cracked version or one that is compatible with the Cracker - he's probably a lot better at finding game archives than I am!
It would be really good to get that game up - I've still got it for Megadrive and it still is fun at times when I fancy chilling out.
