Hi, sorry to bother you.

I'm trying to download a savegame for Monkey Island 1 from this site:
http://www.nicouzouf.com/en/?id=thesecretofmonkeyisland

I have the game loaded in ScummVM but I can't seem to get the savegame to show up on the load game list. I've copied the file into the Scumm folder but still doesn't work.

Can you help? Thanks :max:

F5 is usually the Save\Load button in Scumm. Have you tried that? :max:

Maybe if you put the savegame into the game's save folder?

the saves on teh website seem to be saves for the old ega version. and it isn't a scummvm save, it's a pure monkey island save, so you'd also need to run it via dosbox (which probably wouldn't help you anyways, since you have the vga version)

ah, so is there anywhere that I can get Scumm saves?

here (http://www.worldofmi.com/features/download/savegame/) you can find savegames for the vga version that you have but it still needs to run as real game, not scummvm one

just get dosbox (dosbox.sourceforge.net), it's really not that hard. for this game it would even work without any configuration, just download the dosbox and drag-and-drop monkey.exe to dosbox.exe icon

See that "thesecretofmonkeyisland_save" folder?

Put the savegame in there.

You should be able to find it in the savegames screen of monkey island then.

no you don't put it in any "thesecretofmonkeyisland_save" folider, you place it in the directory with the game, where the EXE files is

then smash F5 inside the game

tried that, said it was an illegal command.

I can play the game on dosbox by dragging the 'monkey exe' file like you said.

But when I drag the savegame into the dosbox icon it says it's an illegal command.

Before you open DOSBox, copy the saved game into the directory with the game in it. Then, and only then, run the game in DOSBox. :)

FFS, you're supposed to copy the savegame into the game directory... not try running the savegame in DOSBox (which is never going to work).

THE NEW SAVES YOU DOWNLOADED FROM THE WEBSITE I LINKED YOU TO. THE FILES THAT YOU TRIED TO DRAG TO THE EXE. READ THIS TOPIC AGAIN

Not unless you completely forgot to mention doing that.

no, I put all the new savegames that I downloaded from worldofmi.com in there. none of them come up on the load game list when I press F5.

I give up

You remembered to unpack them, correct?

Check what filenames the savegames you downloaded have, and check what filenames does the game give new savegame files it creates.
Then try renaming the downloaded savegames accordingly.

and run it via dosbox afterwards, not vdmsound

OK I'm going to try this one last time. I extracted the savegames...

1 is the savegame I created when I saved a game in F5. it appears in the load game list in dosbox.

2 is one of the savegames I downloaded and dragged into the folder

3 is a savegame I dragged in and then renamed to make it look like number 1

but when I move the monkey.exe symbol into dosbox and the game starts, only number 1 is there in the load list. :bleh2:

Do they all have the correct extension? 2 says it's a 002 file. Shouln't it be .sav? *puzzled*

joe, you're almost there.

however, you have to take in mind that this is a real old game and the savegames kind of suck. it sequentially starts checking all the files with file name "savegame" and in case it has wrong format/extension, it stops there. and the savegame with extension 002 is the one who you can not have there, it's from another version of the game/some savegame for vdmsound.

you need to download and unzip all the savegames from that monkey island fan website (they have extensions _A_, _B_, etc) and then place them in that directory that's on the screenshot. and delete/move any other file that starts with savegame, for you this means removing/moving savegame.002

then it will work
