Thus far, I've uploaded...

Desert Strike review and extra screenshots
Powerslave review, screenshots, CD scan, and manual PDF
Wolfenstein 3D review
Flashback review and screenshots
Star Wars The Arcade Game review and screenshots
Mortal Kombat review and extra screenshots
Thexder review and screenshots

I'll be uploading...

Pyrotechnica review with box and manual scans, and screenshots
LHX Attack Chopper review with screenshots
Spear of Destiny Mission Packs reviews and screenshots

I've put Jaguar XJ220 and Wipeout on hold because I can't find the first one anywhere (and I mean ANYWHERE), and the all I've found for the second one is a broken CD image (try and play it and you get a "PIRACY IS BAD! Load up the original disc" message), and a cracked version with badly screwed up sound and no apparent way to fix it.

And, of course, what is the point of having the packs without the game? :p

It was a stand-alone pack and it would have worked without the original game.

Dave

If it's stand alone we could think about it, which one of the special packs listed here?

I "have" both Return to Danger, and Ultimate Challenge. So if they're both acceptable for the site, I can review both.

The "curse" (and our lucky) of these kind of expasion packs is that they were developed by Formgen, Inc instead of Id Software.
The company FormGen was bought out by GT Interactive in 1996.

http://www.mobygames.com/company/formgen-inc

They are sold at Amazon Marketplace (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_vg?url=search-alias%3Dvideogames&field-keywords=Spear+of+Destiny&x=0&y=0), but I haven't found other buy links.

Only Spear of Destiny is sold and supported at IdSoftware (http://www.idsoftware.com/games/wolfenstein/spear/index.php?game_section=buy).

So I would say they are ok to add :OK:

I'm afraid it's not, you still need the original Spear of Destiny EXE. I know, I have Ultimate Challenge and enjoyed it thoroughly. However, if we do put them on site, I have the manual for UC (which I will need to take my notes out of first ).

Sure, but no need to stress yourself. ;) We have lots of material right now, thanks to you among others. I'm drafting a database to make sense of it, I've noted your MK extras down as future uploads.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner. I didn't get a notification that anyone had posted in here until today.

I can, but they're not archives made by me. I found Powerslave on Abandonware Utopia, Star Wars: The Arcade Game and Thexder on XTC Abandonware, and the Spear of Destiny mission packs via a Rapidshare link. As such, should I try and upload them myself, or send the links to an admin/updater? If the latter, who?

JMB- Thanks :)

Alrighty. I'll do that this evening. I'll also be uploading a slightly updated version of my Powerslave review, as it needed some extra info about the cracked version of the game. I also left out a rather important tidbit by accident, which was added as well. I'll let you guys know when they're all on the ftp area.

Um, we have a problem.

The cracked version of Powerslave seems to have been tampered with in a bad way. While the hackers did increase the speed of the strafing (which is good), they seem to have removed/lost the ability to change the mouse sensitivity (bad) and the mouselook key (very bad). I tried putting the hacked executable into my installed copy of PS, and the changes (good and bad) were still in place. I don't know if they used the beta version of the executable (there is a beta of PS floating around) or what, but the loss of those two rather important abilities is pretty detrimental to the game. So while they fixed one issue by doing what they did, they created two others.

Powerslave requires the CD to be in the drive when you play, and I can't find a No CD patch for the game anywhere. So unless someone here is able to hack the executable, or able to find a non-screwy hacked version, I'm not sure what to do.

Edit: I should note that I found several other sites with PS on them, but they all have the same cracked version.

AlumiuN

Does it check at startup or just before you start or load a game? Because if its the former, I can possibly crack it. :)

The Coop
17-03-2009, 09:07 PM
Right before you start/load a game. You get to the title screen, choose what to do, and then a notice to put the CD in pops up. From there, you either do just that, or choose the "abort" option to quit the game.

Hey guys. Remember me?

Yes, I vanished for a while. Life got busy and it needed my attention. So, on with the updates...

- My review for Pyrotechnica is done (has been for a good while really). All I need to do is just go over it a few times to smooth parts out and whatnot. I have all the screenshots, box scans, and everything ready to go, and I'll upload the game as well. I should be able to do this either Thursday evening, or Friday afternoon.

- I'm backing out of the Wipeout and Jaguar XJ220 reviews. I can't find a properly working disc image of the first, and I can't find ANY download of the second. I'm really thinking XJ220 is a case of a game being done, and reviewed, but never released (like what happened with Curse for the Genesis in the US).

- Do you guys want me to just upload that "adjusted" version of Powerslave? I can't find another version of it anywhere, and I could add a note to my already uploaded review about the changes done in the cracked version offered on Abandonia.

Anyone? Someone? Customer service to The Coop's Goodie Bag. Customer service to The Coop's Goodie Bag. Should I upload the cracked version of Powerslave that has the adjusted strafing speed, and removed mouse-look button?

Anyway, I've uploaded the Pyrotechnica review. I put the game, screenshots, manual text, and box/CD scans up on Thursday, but wanted to tweak the review a bit more. Now everything is uploaded and ready to go.

Are the adjustments made by you or are we talking about an official updated version?

The Coop
23-05-2009, 07:16 AM
None of the above actually.

The game normally requires the CD to be in when you play it. It checks for it when you try to start a game (new or continue). Whoever hacked the game either tinkered with the executable in other ways, or else they might have used the executable from the beta of PS that was released. Either way, it resulted in the sped up strafing, a missing mouse-look button, and the unadjustable mouse sensitivity.

It's the only cracked version of the game I've been able to find, and I haven't found anything about what exactly the game looks for when it checks for the CD (a file? a line of code on the disc?).

TotalAnarchy

Ok, upload it on FTP. We'll leave both versions there for the moment. Maybe AlumiuN can try and hack correctly the game. He suggested that a while ago.

Alrighty.

I'm about to go to bed, so I'll have do it later today (the upload will take a couple hours). And thanks for responding.

The Coop

It took a stupid amount of tries (kept getting kicked off during the uploads), but Powerslave is on the server. I contacted AlumiuN, and filled him in. With any luck, he'll be able to crack it so we can have a non-busted version for the site.

Oh, and if any other site staff tries to grab it, you have to use hjsplit to put "PS Part2" and "PS Part3" together (which I uploaded), as it's one big file split in half. I had to do this so I could get everything on there.

I'm backing out of the Wipeout and Jaguar XJ220 reviews. I can't find a properly working disc image of the first

What do u mean by properly working?

The Coop
25-05-2009, 04:52 PM
As I mentioned on page 1, the only two CD images I found were not working properly. One simply wouldn't play (it gives a "PIRACY IS BAD! INSERT ORIGINAL DISC" message), and the other has messed up sound that can't be fixed (instead of sound effects, it was either silent, or it crackled and popped... and there was no way to adjust the sound settings so I could hear the sound effects).

Alrighty.

I've uploaded new versions of the manuals I did for The Immortal, Silpheed and Descent. Because I felt that I did a much better job with the manuals for Wing Commander and Powerslave, I decided to redo the first three I submitted, and get them to be the same quality level. A little clean up here and there, and I got rid of that damned middle seam that was between each page. They're in the folders "Fixed Descent Manual", "Fixed Immortal Manual", and Fixed Silpheed Manual, in my folder on the server.

TotalAnarchy

I've replaced the manuals, of course without a newpost, since those were replacements. But the new scans were welcome. I've checked their quality and they look more complete and clean now. Thank you for your contributions. :)
