If any game is abandoned, it's The Neverhood. It's been considered a rarity since about a year after it's release. It was a really great adventure game done entirely in claymation. The logic is completely strange, and the world is just surreal in general, even the music. Almost everyone I know who has played it loves it, but it's incredibly hard to find a copy of it.

The company's page doesn't even exist anymore, so there's no doubt that it's abandoned.

HOTU even has it, but I'd like to see it here, because Abandonia is just that much better.

Sounds good. I second the motion. especially after seeing the screens for the game at Mobygames. :D I will write a review for it . :ok: If it's under 100 MBs or can be reduced to 100 MBs.

I've played a demo of the game and it was very surreal and very different. I think people would love to play it.

I concur, The Neverhood rocks.

I have the full-CD version (which I think is cracked, as the splash screen shows a CD key I never entered), which weighs in at about 620 megs on the CD.

Oh, and I know you don't do PSX games, but is there any chance you could make an exception for Skull Monkeys, the sequel to The Neverhood?

The Underdogs version would be more suitable as I know I could get it down to under 100 MBs with it.

Hehe, Allen's been praising this game into the sky over Msn only two weeks or so ago :D Seems like it's definitely worth a try, according to what he told me.

Hehe, I loved this game <grin>
I've got the cd version of it, but it's well over 600MB.

Sorry to ressurect, but I didn't want to start another topic. I consider it abandon ware, even though it was released in '96 or so. It's always been hard to find, and ever since my disc was scratched by a friend a few years back, I've never been able to enjoy it (it freezes up about 1/6th way into the game). Featuring some of the best puzzles, music, and overall "feel" capable of being experienced in a game, this is definetly something everyone should check out.

Douglas Tennaple strikes again. For everyone who enjoyed Earthworm Jim, you'll soon realize Doug's masterpiece. Skullmonkeys is great too.

I was looking everywhere. Even in p2p, Oldawarez list, abandonia and it's not protected by ESA (I hope - I didn't find the creators on the list of ESA). It was a puzzle/adventure game about plasteline guy... you should know it. I very, very miss it...

if its abbandoned and esa not protected i can upload cd image,

however the game was BIG enough!
i dont know if someone would downlaod it

You can get it from the Underdogs - http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=2484

It's a big game - 186mb zipped, so I don't think it will be on this site.

The only thing that really bothered me about the game, was my inability to save (I always had that problem, strangely, and the looooooooong walk in the room with all the background story, just to get that stupid cartridge.

GREAT !!! Loads and loads of thanks! I think that abandonia should have a review and a link to the underdogs site (or other where you can download it). It'a a big shame that there is nothing even mentioned about it here.

Not sure if this is under any sort of ESA protection. I think it was made by Dreamworks.

According to my info, Microsoft had something in common with production of this game.

However, what I know for sure is that this game is nearly 200 MB in size, thus not making it a valid addition to the Abandonia.

You see, abandoned games over 25 MB are a big question mark. Those over 60 need a very special permission from Kosta.
Finally, those over 100 megs will in the best case be restricted to the VIP area, since to put them up in public access part of the site would have to be immediately followed by signing for bankrupcy because of the bandwidth bills.

Yeah, it's one of the best and most unique adventure game's I've played, and I've played lots of them. I only had a demo of The Neverhood when I was younger, and I would have had my dad buy it for me if I had set my mind to ask him, but I regret not doing so. Now you can't find any place to buy it.

I think that review will be a good addition to Abandonia. It's really a classic game.

Well one of my old demo discs there is a trailer of Neverhood and it says there "for ages 13 and over". I believe some scenes might be a bit shocking for some little children

bobson

Which scenes could be shocking? Falling from the stairs? There is no violence, just lots of laughs! I think that younger children wouldn't get through some of the puzzles (I had problems with some of them...)

The Neverhood download from HOTU is known to have some problems.

I know where the ISO of Neverhood can be downloaded, as well as other games, simply because I use to link to them.

I've been meaning to contact Kosta about this; an ISO listing in particular.

You ran the setup right? If you encounter errors in setup, do this: remove Neverhood, extract Neverhood file again, run setup again and try again. If it doesn't work, repeat everything. It worked on me when I done it third time

Typical. I just, and I mean 20 seconds ago, delete the archive. I'll need to downlaod it again.

This is why Abandonia is better than HOTU. Sure HOTU hosts more games, but EVERY game hosted by Abandonia works!

Wanna know the easy way to fix it? Run it in Win95 compatiblity mode.

Yeah, I kinda felt stupid when I figured that out.

(If you don't know what that means, right click the executable, click "properties", click the "compatibility" tab and put a check next to "Windows 95 compatability mode".)

Great, now I have another problem. Now it won't load the games I save.

Either it's a bad dump or I need to try another compatiblity mode. Or I'll just need to wait until Windows 95 is emulated.

It already is. ^_^
Go to Microsoft's site and download Virtual PC 2004. You'll also need a bootdisk of some sort (Freedos bootdisk should do the trick) and Windows 95 CD.
You'll have to install the operating system on your virtual machine like on a normal PC, but all in all it works! :kosta:
And yeah, been there done that.
