Gold Rush............what a great game. It's always overlooked when people talk about great old adventures -- I wish someone like AGDI would release a new VGA version with icons instead of a parser.

Gold Rush was one of my all-time favorite adventure games. Some of my other favorites included Goblins 3, Kings Quest 5, Day of the Tentacle, and the Leisure Suit Larry games. Gold Rush is the only one of those that I don't have.

Never played Goblins -- the others are all great, although I like KQ6 better than 5 and I like Fate of Atlantis better than Day of the Tentacle. Still phenomenal games though.

Hey, back to the original post, that other game Below the Root was apparenly only made for the Apple II, and the Commodore 64. GameFAQs has a bit of information.

Oh, and *ahem*, Underdogs seem to have it. Less than 100k too!

They have Swiss Family Robinson, Treasure Island, and Wizard of Oz too, from the same company. Great!

Maybe one of you guys can help me remember this game but I have completely forgot what's it called and it's just bugging the heck out of me.

This is an very old PC based game, maybe late 80s.
It's kind of like "out-of-this world" you play the game from a side view, but this game is not colored (monocrone).
Basically you walk around left right up and down talking to people and performing task and missions. You also have this cape that if you jump from trees you can glide to ground, and you can run and jump. I think you can get torch to go into cave also, but they only last for a while.

I belive I used to have it on my 386 or even older PC, had to load it on one of those giant 5.25 floppies.

That sounds like Below the Root, it is a real diamond.

http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=113

I played it on my C64. Gliding is not like you have cape, more like you are fairy or something.

Tell me how do you glide on PC, because i couldn't perfom that and that prevents me from reviewing this game and uploading it. On C64 it was no problem, just press fire when falling down, but on PC it just don't work.

That it! thanks man! It's been so long since I last played it, but I think if you're falling down you just hit direction key (left or right) to go the direction that you want.

Mornig :max:

My request is about Below the Root (http://www.mobygames.com/game/pc-booter/below-the-root).

In this post here (http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=13565&highlight=below+root) they just speak about that you can get it from the underdogs. Now we all know the HotU is dead and alive from time to time. So I really would appreciate it if I could see that game here besides I have copy but it's just with CGA-Graphics and there is a version with VGA-Graphics I guess.

So long

I don't want to sound harsh, but what for do you think is the thread you linked which is named Below the Root and is in Approved Requests?

Anyways, if you want to offer your CGA copy and a review, open a thread in the Offers forum, and we'll see if we can find the VGA version for you and your review. :)

I've uploaded the CGA version - it's not fun.

I can't remember there ever being a VGA version of this game...

Well, you have to get in the game for a while. There wasn't VGA version. Even C64 version had only few colors, graphics looked more like Spectrum graphics. I never managed to spread wings in PC version. Must be doing something wrong...
