So now that my hardware is up to date I can again follow recent games, and on the above link there's a pretty good list of games that are announced for 2009. What are your expectations? Will 2009 be better for PC gaming than 2008 was?
Well, 2008 wasn't that bad, I have played some good titles I won't forget about ;)
Hardware up to date is an utopia in the last years :p, don't know if you have tried one of the Crysis series...but you could be disapponted by your new machine even if it's not its fault.
But I can't wait to see Blizzard's sons released, damn we are talking about history of gaming...I think I could sell a kidney just to play Starcraft II and Diablo3.

A friend with a slightly weaker machine than mine can play crysis in 1280*1024 with high details and some amount of anti aliasing turned on so I guess it would work on my PC too. Besides I payed my around 700€, a couple of years ago if you would buy a machine for that money it would already be outdated. PC hardware is cheaper than ever. :P
The only game I had problem running is GTA4 which runs on about 25-30FPS but with high details. However that game is terribly optimized for PC, though otherwise it's an excellent game.

I'm getting too old I guess, only a few that *maybe* could interest me,
As are:
Wing Commander Saga
Cryostasis
Aliens: Colonial Marines
And one that could be something: Last Half of Darkness: Tomb of Zojir
What I really miss are some good flightsims that aren't arcadish or consolish.
And of course most fps games ourdays lack the SP gameplay that can last over ten houres, what a sh*t, finishing a game in less then 8 houres on 'hard' and die hardly twice or trice .... total crap.
Booooooooooooooooooooooooring.

Well, he didn't activated Ultra graphics...and antialiasing isn't really activated, it's a problem of recent games, he should do it manually ;)

I think I'll be hoping for more good stuff from GoG, as well as picking up any classics I've missed in the past couple of years.
Age of Decadence interests me, though I dunno if it'll be done in '09! Similarly for Diablo 3. Dragon Age: Origins might be out though.

As an hardcore strategy gamer, I find very sad that the only game which I can find even remotely interesting in that genre is Starcraft 2. And even then...
Spotted a lot of games in the other genres I'd be willing to try. Won't happen if they are pay to play though. I'll never risk losing good money on bad games. I been burned too often already.

These are the ones that cought my attention as well. 2 are based on freeware. well actually one is freeware.

Well it's actually already out. I think at the very beginning of this year. The freeware flightsim with almost the whole world maped and over 200 planes i believe (i could be wrong on this one). anyway: www.flightgear.org (http://www.flightgear.org)
I still have the previous (1.0) version and only a couple of planes, but man is it good. Ok not all the airports are done yet. but I downloaded my area. and i am still learning by visual flying. So far i flew to Venice, some small croatian islands and Austria. Mostly i can find the airport by knowing area. and i can even land. a bit rough but still...
Anyway the new version has flight plans and many other cool stuff.
On the FPS topic is Boiling point any good?
Oh and EoF Total war series seems promising and i also Anno. but you are right mostly they are not really interesting. i mean strategy should be played with the propper map like view not through the eyes of the private etc. (like world at war and the like)

Well, I know I'll be trying Gobliiiins 4, for sentiments sake
Got to look into the Last dark of halfness series as well
I don't know if Overlord 2 will be as much fun as the first, but I'll have a try
And I might have a go with Diablo 3, when it's on sale
We already know that auditorium is nice and addictive
Machinarium looks cool, but I don't know the slightest thing about the game
Curious about Beyond Good & Evil 2 and Mirror's Edge
that's about it for this list

Let's see...
Empire: Total War, the new Anno may be good, Cities XL (now that SimCity has forsaken us), Grand Ages Rome could be nice, Star Trek Supremacy (I played BotF way too much), the three SoaSE mini-expansions, Gobliiins 4 :amused:, Drakensang, City of Abandoned Ships, Age of Decadence, The Tomorrow War, Subversion, Crayon Physics Deluxe, Braid, Limbo, Mafia 2, White Gold, Precursors, OFP2, ArmA2, Dragon Age, Metro 2033, Mirror's Edge, Alpha Protocol, Risen, Borderlands, Arcania, Deus Ex 3 (please don't mess it up), Soviet Assault...
Plenty to keep an eye on :D
This is going to sound very awkward, but I'm also curious about Love :bleh:
Perhaps it will be the first MMOG to... actually be enjoyable?

Wow that sounds cool. I was just thinking the other day about an open source project like that, where the world could work together to create the greatest GTA clone ever...the entire globe as a free roam! This flight sim is 1/4 the way there it seems =)

I have had a look at crysis and it runs pretty well on my £400 PC with a £35 graphics card - Geforce 8600GT so you will probably find it plays fine, no problems with Far cry 2 or Fear either.

Haha, yeah, me neither. I mean, come on. It's gonna be released ''when it's done,'' to quote the guys who makes it. Which they've said numerous times over a long period of time, too.

Yes, it should get extremely fast paced from the developers and producers of PC games. Especially those who are members of the PC Gaming Alliance.
Please read the following article. I wrote this for a local newspaper, late last year.

Is PC Gaming A Dead Platform?
Posted 9/30/2008 10:25 PM EDT on lancastereaglegazette.com
Thinking of trading in your computer for an XBox360? Think again, because you may want to hold on to that PC. Those who say PC gaming is dying off, should really take a second look. In fact, it's totally the opposite and the gaming market is dominated by PC gamers.
Up until late 2007, the hard data on PC game sales was extremely lacking. Most experts were positive that PC game sales were shrinking, but no one could tell for sure, because the NPD - A marketing analysis group that tracks all video game sales - had never attempted to track the on-line portion of PC game sales. Nor had any other marketing research group.
In late 2007, Intel and AMD decided to team up... to save PC gaming and hopefully find a better way to track the actual sales of PC games. Early this year, the two chip giants joined forces, along with Microsoft and Dell to create the "PC Gaming Alliance"
Now that the PCGA is keeping tabs on actual sales, the truth has finally come out and the hard data is showing that PC gaming is on the rise. PC game sales are larger than any one console's game sales, holding over 30% of the total gaming market as of 9/18/08.
According to PCGA President Randy Stude, "The PCGA analysis clearly shows incredible growth in online PC gaming, proof that the industry is far stronger than anyone has reported," Stude also said, "Today’s consumers shop where they live - online..."

I would say, we can include and give alot of credit, to games such as, Ultima Online or Halo3 Multi-play, etc.
