Ok, here's the deal if one of the admins/mods wanna help out (Dave, are you listening?)
If you feel lucky, or you just wanna get rid of a few PoEs, place your bid here. Every so often a bet is posted like, what's the genre of today's update?
Winner takes it all!
This thread is the official Casino, and all bets should be announced here.
Now:
The next guess-that-screenshot as from 30/12-08 16:06 (+1 GMT) will be in what genre?
And yes, this is Tomekk's brainchild. Thanks to him, you finally will find a use for these PoEs :) He has also promised he might even write us a rule book, to avoid unnecessary fighing over MILLIONS of SHINY COINS!
And NO CHEATING :p Cheaters will recieve a really nasty surprise, as soon as we can come up with anything sufficiently nasty.
IMPORTANT:
Before you get any fancy ideas: If you edit your post with the bet, it will show. Editing such posts will be considered cheating so think your post through before pressing the Post button. ONLY exception is Tomekk's post just below this one (post #2) as I will guaranty no cheating was done in that edit.

14 for adventure but I have a question... If winner takes all and two people bid on the same thing (say, Arcade lol) and there is an uneven number of POE, how will the pot be split? I vote that the extra PoE should go to a random user who entered the comp... The admin in charge of tossing the coins about ccould decide...

2 people can't bet on the same thing. It's not written anywhere yet but it will be.

Ok, we've successfully completed our first PoE bet. Thank you all for your participation!
SUMMARY:
Mighty Midget(starter): 13 PoEs that the next screenshot will be an arcade game.
Tomekk: 13 that it will be an adventure game.
The Bard: 13 on an RPG.
DoomYoshi: 13 on an Action game.
Total Number of PoEs: 52.
Winner: Tomekk - Won 39 PoEs (Today's screenshot is an adventure game)[I kick ass :amused:]
PS.:Sorry Capo I'm not counting you, since I already bet on an adventure game, and I clearly stated for DoomYoshi that 2 people can't be on the same thing, and you only bet 5 PoEs whilst others where putting up 13 at stake.
Ok, perfect. Let's try with two per week.

Whoa! What happened? Last post was on 12/31. It's been a whole week, and there's no more bets? That died quick for such a cool idea!
Alumiun's roundoff idea was not bad. But what if the roundoff goes to the first poster to name the winning genre?
And what if all the genres are taken when someone wants to bet? Then they'll have to bet on a taken genre, right?

I believe Tomekk said he could write us a rule book :) One thing we need, is to organize this a bit better, with having the bets on the same day of the week. We hope Dave will do the transactions, but until we get that rule book, I don't think much is going to happen, unfortunately.
One more thing is that after the coming Monday, I hopefully won't be much around. After that, Tomekk will have to organize this, or he will need someone else to organize it with him.

It would probably be better to allow multiple persons bet on the same genre, there aren't that much genres after all .... just a thought.
Imagine that only one person could bet on a horse, you wouldn't get far with that kind of rules.
And make it a fixed amount of PoE maybe, some 5 or 10, something.

Dosraider: I think there are more people out there who agree that these PoEs are worth absolutely nothing at all. As far as I'm concerned, that's why we started this betting game, finally there was at least a way of putting some meaning into those coins. I really don't care if I win or lose, it's just for a laugh, meaning nothing when the sun goes down. Feel free to join in, after all, there's nothing to lose (or win). I'm only gonna ask you to keep this topic clear of any unrelated posts :) Thanks.

I simply draw back from this topic, I wouldn't want be the reason MM gets somekind of a vinegar intox.
BTW, MM may have all the PoE, maybe that will lighten him up a bit.

While it is true that it is totally pointless to lose more due to a higher bet, it could also be argued that it is unfair to the members who do not participate in the betting. If the PoEs were doubled for the winner there would just be an insane amount of inflation/pure monetary generation from the betting board. Since we aren't really providing or creating anything here it doesn't make sense for this to be a place to make money. It does however make sense for it to be a place to shuffle money around. As such, only one rule makes sense. A fixed bet from 10-100 PoEs. The winner should be the one who decides the value of the next bet (with it defaulting to Tomekk if the winner does not post). Above David said he wanted to limit the bets to one per week. We also need to settle which date we will be betting on. The 10th was a Saturday so...every thursday? Jk... saturday should be fine.
Theoretically, if there was a whole week of betting, people could raise the stakes if they wanted to:)
By the way, I will match whatever stake for the 17th for an adventure game.
