Hey everyone, I'm new.:whistling:

I played DOS games back in the Dos Days, the days forgotten, but I now want some recommendations. Even though I played DOS games I want to hear your recommendations as if I never played DOS games.

So, give to me your:

"5 - 15 DOS games you have to have played":amused:

Firstly I'd have to say a big Welcome from all us Abandonians, we hope you'll be hanging around for years to come!

Secondly, I wonder if you're looking for freeware/abandonware recommendations, or for general recommendations...?

Either way, here are my top 5 to try, based on giving a varied cross-section.

1. Tie-Fighter (or X-Wing they're both good, but I do like being a bit evil now and then)
2. King's Quest III (or Space Quest IV, or really any of the Sierra "Quest" series)
3. Ultima 7: The Black Gate (and its sequel The Serpent Isle, and the two expansions if you can get them)
4. Wolfenstein 3D (my first first-person-shooter experience, a classic!)
5. UFO: Enemy Unknown (AKA X-Com: UFO defence)

And there are many many more, I did at one time try to make a top ten, decided I couldn't leave some out, and it became a top 20, then top 50, then I gave up. There's just too many out there worth playing!

Ultima Underworld, the Stygian Abyss, the best game ever IMHO.
Tie-Fighter, as mentioned above. Great space sim with a plot.
Monkey Island 1, how can anyone willingly miss out on this gem?
I'll have to edit in a few more later, right now these are the ones that came to mind.

I'd also add Civilization to the mix - it has awful graphics (not entirely, but the world map is what you see most of the time and it looks like shit) and a bit tidious controls, but man, does it make you feel good, when half of the world runs smoothly under your command!

What else... Wing Commander is a game I avoided for a VERY long time (and with no apparent reason), but when I finally tried it out, I fell in love with the whole series. I'm currently trying to beat WC IV but it's really damn hard!

Also if I were you I wouldn't miss Dreamweb - it's a game that not many remember, which is a big shame, 'cause there aren't many better in terms of atmosphere and plot out there.

EOF is right. I suggest you look in the threads of the games you already know and like, and check the profiles of people who posted there to see if they have favourites in their profile. People who like the same games, uh, like similar games. :P

Hey, thanks for the recommendations, everyone! I could'nt have asked for more worthy Abandonians! ;)

BTW I really want to try out a massive amount of games, but I'm currently unable to dowload anything, using FF3 or IE. It wasn't like that two days ago?

I would say to DEFINITELY get these games:

1.Chex Quest - DooM Conversion, came in boxes of chex in 1996, you can now get versions of it for windows which work better.
2.Death Gate - super cool and brain-tickling click adventure
3.Golden Axe - It's Golden Axe, need I say more?
4.Styx - awesome fill-in-the-screen arcade game
5.Zork - text adventure of pure win.

Diablo 1 was released in '97 for Windows. It's still sold by Blizzard and has Battle.net support.
By looking at your post, you don't know nothing about, SO GO LOOK IT UP!

Please do.
Because, you know, getting involved with warez could end Abandonia's existence (not to mention getting all staff in trouble) pretty fast.

Just a selection out of the many recommendations I could write down:

* Monkey Island 1 & 2. Don't live your life without it
* Sam & Max Hit the Road. Although the modern games are fun, they just can't beat the first. Oh and read the comics and watch the cartoons if you get the chance, they kick *tail*
* Fury of the Furries. NOT Pac in time, fury of the furries. Cute and addictive platformer.
* Talking about addicitve platformers, try these: Jill of the jungle, Gods, Magic Pockets, Willy the worm (well it was fun back in 1988 or so), Jazz Jackrabbit, prince of persia, umm.. probably some more as well.
* Blood. Or Doom, but blood is more campy fun.
