I used to play this one back on my Amiga 500.
I can beat this one in under 20 mins, and yet it's still fun to muddle through...

I remember playing this a LONG time ago. Brings back memories. This and this jack and the beanstalk text only game were the first games i ever had.

I'm sure I've played this but none of the screenshots were familiar.
Is there one where you have to fix jack jumping over the candlestick like find one for him and put it down so he can jump over it?
That and Humpty Dumpty are the only things I remember.

Just walk into the person you have to give it to. If it's the right person (or the right spot in some occasions) the game'll take over for a moment.

How Do You Remove the Saved Games? :help:
wendymaree
20-01-2005, 07:12 AM
My advice is to create a new folder to save your new games into (within the game folder) and then change the directory (in the save process) to where the new location is.

I Found How To Remove Saved Games:
1.Go To It's Folder
2.There Should Be A File Named: MGSG.#(# is a number like this: MGSG.1 the one is the first player)
3.Delete the save game
4.Run Mother Goose
All Done!

Hello. :) I downloaded this game so I can relive my glory days of being addicted to my friends' computers and this game was one of the ones I loved to play. I'm no computer expert but I managed to get this game to run in DOSBox, but I haven't figured out how to turn the sound on or how to change the character's name. Any ideas?

Wow! I remember playing this at my Aunt's house years ago! Those were the days, when the beepy computer renditions of nursery rhymes resounded through the basement. Probably annoyed the bejeezes out of my aunt, but I sure as heck had a good time.

You might want to check out the official DosBox FAQ (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php), and particularly this part of it (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?page=Basic+Setup+and+Installation+of+Dos Box)

Wow, I remember playing this when I was in grade school, on the library's computer.
The graphics seemed so much better then...
Still I'm really glad to have found it again, as it keeps popping up in my memory! Now I know not only did I not imagine the game, but I can still play it if I want to!

Maybe if you specified what have you exactly tried so far.
Did you read your readme? What about the FAQ on the DosBox site? If you haven't, read them both. More likely then not, you'll find a solution there.

If in Windows, are you using VDMSound or DOSBox?

Hm... I wonder....
Where did the other 3 versions of this game go? There was the original, then a VGA remake, another remake, then a Deluxe VGA remake that had speech, great music and everything. I wonder where those went :(

One of the most common questions ever asked on this forum. You were trying to run a DOS game in Windows, which ended in the typically catastrophic manner.
What you should have done is run the game in DosBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net). If you have any problems with it, make sure to read the readme file - if that's not enough, there is always the official FAQ (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php) and Basic Setup and Installation guide (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?page=Basic+Setup+and+Installation+of+Dos Box).

Thanks for the info. In DOSbox it still doesn't work. I get 'bad programme image' or 'unable to change to ...'. I'm thinking it's because I can't change the 'read only' box of the map. Is there a way to uncheck this box? Thanks in advance... :sos:

Sorry about that. Firstly, I unzipped the Mother Goose map, because I can't open it otherwise. In the DOSbox I mount to my games map, then to MOTHER~1 which is the name of the mother goose map on my laptop. Then when I type in 'MG' I get the message 'bad programme image'.
Otherwise when I just mount to my games map and type in '_install' I get 'echo, type \sierra, unable to change to \sierra' or something like that. I hope you understand what I mean now. The unzipped map of the games is 'read only', but all the files inside are not 'read only'. I don't know what I'm doing wrong...

It's not your fault. A lot of old Sierra games required to be installed into a "Sierra" directory on your hard drive.
1. Create a directory named Sierra and move the game directory into it.
2. Rename the game directory... I see you're using a dirname over 8 characters which is a big no-no in DOS and DOSBox alike. The game may require a specific name for its own directory to work. I don't know what is it, but seeing that "Mixed up fairy tales" used a dirname "Tales", you might want to try "Goose" for this one.

But I don't get this game started on my computer.
Must it be downloaded on a floppy? what must I do then?

Wow you're fast. Yeah, that sort of info is on page 3 of this thread but let me explain. I use Windows XP with DOSBOX and when I try to start mg (after mounting etc) it says 'bad program image'. when i type '_install' it gives me an echo with things like 'type \sierra'. Then when I type '\sierra' it says 'Unable to change to \sierra'. I'm not really good with computers so am obviously lost...:S
Mighty Midget
05-06-2007, 05:54 PM
Ok, quite a few of Sierra's games MUST be installed in a folder named "Sierra". Re-install the game in (assuming your games folder is in DOSBox's C root directory) a folder with the path (from within DOSBox) C:\Sierra.
See if this did the trick

Try to re-download the game. You could be right that it is a corrupt download. Just don't delete the old one just yet.
_r.u.s.s.
05-06-2007, 06:26 PM
problem is that the game MUST be in c:\sierra\mg directory
so if you run dosbox, it has to be virtual directory
for example, you download your game in to d:\games\sierra\mg
so in dosbox you need to type "mount c d:\games"

Thank you once more... Should I unzip the map, or leave it zipped?

I've been attempting to run this game in DOSBox with no success.
I mounted my directory, and I have all the game files in a folder named Sierra (so I type c:\sierra\mg)
I receive an error that it can't find 'agi' file. The file AGI is clearly right there. When I attempt to run the _install.bat, I receive an endless echo talking about inserting disk 2. I can't even get the game loaded.
Also, for some reason, the FAQ on DOSBox's webpage isn't loading, so I've been unable to look there.

Run dosbox and try this:
mount c c:\sierra
c:
cd mg
Try to run the game from there, it will find its files then.
That is IF your windows path is c:\sierra\mg\ , you weren't very detailled on that point .....
<_<
IF your windows path is c:\oldgames\sierra\mg\ your lines are:
mount c c:\oldgames
c:
cd sierra
cd mg
etcetera ...

I'm having trouble playing this using DOSBox on a Mac w/ Leopard.
I've got a bunch of files for the game and one called _INSTALL.BAT. In DOSBox I typed mount c ~/Desktop/Games/mumg. I've tried two different things. With _INSTALL.BAT in the mumg folder and everything else in ~/Desktop/Games/mumg/sierra, running _INSTALL.BAT makes this happen:
D:\>if not exist vol.2 goto :GetVol2
D:\>echo Please put disk 2 of
Please put disk 2 of
D:\>echo Mother Goose
Mother Goose
D:\>echo in the drive.
in the drive.
D:\>pause
Press any key to continue
Pressing any key just shows all that again. if _INSTALL.BAT is in the folder called sierra with everything else, changing to that director in DOSBox and running _INSTALL.BAT says
cd \sierra
echo to play mother goose, type
echo cd \sierra
then type
mg
It's already in c:\sierra so I typed mg, and it says Bad program image in the middle of a screen in a gray box.
And.. I'm out of ideas. Is there some other way the files should be? What am I doing wrong/how can I make the game work? I downloaded everything from http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/365/Mixed+Up+Mother+Goose.html.
I used to play this game ages ago when I was little but I was, well, little.. and not good at them, so my dad and brother ended up doing everything. And now I'm in college and I want to see if I've gotten any better.

I'm running the game in DOSbox, and when I go to select "New Game" I get an error saying I have 0K available in memory, and that I need more to play. Then it shuts down. How do I fix this? I've tried to change the game .exe properties, the install.exe properties, properties while running the install program, and I've tried to find a configure file. Maybe I'm just blind, but is this DOSbox or is this the game? And what do I do?

1) You are in the wrong thread. This is the thread of the original CGA version (http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/365/). You try to play Mixed Up Mother Goose VGA (http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/28078/) (thread) (http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=25887).
2) You shouldn't write memory if it's disk space since people assume that RAM is meant. Actually, you should post the exact error message.
3) Run the game with the MG.BAT, not with the SCIDHUV.EXE.
4) Please post the solution in your enquiry thread on the forums of sarcasticgamer.com (http://forums.sarcasticgamer.com/showthread.php?p=647596), in order that others who search for a solution are easily able to find it before becoming desperate due to finding their question without answers.
5) Addressing 2) and 4), here is the exact error message: You only have 0K of disk space, which is not enough space to save a new game. You will have to make more space to play a new game. (Make space? And I thought my English is bad. But probably my English is so bad that I only think it is bad English - make space, not my English.)
6) Have fun playing! :D
Oops...Sorry for posting in the wrong thread
As for finding my SGC thread, while that's creepy I guess it should be expected. ;P
thank you for the response. :)
For what its worth (but you seem to know this already >.<) Here's the ss of the error:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v251/FireKame/0kerror.jpg
Also, IT WORKED!! Thank you! :D I'm going to post my question and your solution in the VGA topic, too, in case someone else runs into issues.
I'm off to go play my game! <3
