We Almost Got Suspended From Ancient.dk Yesterday!

One of the most popular Rings came close to suspending Abandonia yesterday.

This was done because we were violating some of their rules. They had discovered that some screenshots on this page originated from MobyGames. :ranting:

Please...
When you are reviewing a game for us, and include screenshots... do NOT steal them from the net. That is illegal! We only want screenshots you have taken yourselves!

This is not a game. There ARE rules we must follow. Protecting the copyright of pictures on the net is one of them.

Remember this from now on. No stealing!

I took screens from Moby for a garfield game , but that was only because it is a WIN 95 game and it will not run in DOSBOX. :whistle: Just to let the admins know. Please don't be mad, I couldn't take my own screens of it because of that! :blink:

Well I know I had problems with 7 cities of gold (couldn't get it to run properly) until dosbox 0.63 came out!
I actually tryed to steal some screenshots - but couldn't find any...
The ones up there aren't stolen.
I'll go through my games just in case - because I know I both made and downloaded some screenshots... Will duble check that now!

Only Zak McCracken and Mortal Kombat 2 didn't have *.png screenshots (at least of my games) - but I remember using hypersnap for Zak (jpg) and I'm not sure about MK2, but the shots are not from MobyGames (dublechecked)!

hmm I couldn't get screenshots for Ken's Labyrinth due to problems with the DOS version Tom Henrick. I used the pics from Moby, srry didn't know it was that bad. If you can, can you make some before you upload.

Don't worry, guys. I think this is all a bit of a storm in a tea cup...as they say in the classics. I use to think it was ok to borrow screenshots, too, as long as you named names. We all know better now. :angel:

Pff, I'm getting tired of this ''stealing'' crap. Fact is, you can never know. Example: Mobygames has a shot of the title screen of the game. We need that picture to, so it's exactly the same. Did we steal it? or did we make the exact same picture?

No, I just type dink smallwood into google and then images. I took some shots from different sites resized them and thats all :tomato:

It saves to the clipboard, go into paint or something and paste it in (the disadvantage is that you have to take the screens one at a time).

Yes, but if I'm reviewing a game I've already played completely, I don't play the whole game again unless I want a particular screenshot from later in the game.

If screenshots from fairly early in the game are just as good, I use them.

There's still never any excuse for taking screenshots from the net. I've only ever found one game that I couldn't take screenshots for and then I took them from the developers site with their permission (it was freeware, I'm not suggesting we ask EA for screenshots!). :D

If you haven't noticed people - we had a gest here - from one of the sites of the ring 'hanging'. Everybody is off course welcome to read through the entire forum, we've got nothing to hide, but I really don't think it's apropriate for people to openly go and atack a fellow member while a 'foreginer' is present. You can try print screen (then go to paint - or any such painting utility) and paste it. Unfortunately you can only make one screenshot at the time.
You can also get some programs like Hypersnap (there's a free trial version, but after a month you must buy it,...).

What are you runing the games under (Windows - or something else)?
If it's windows you might try a window - instead off full screen and try hypersnap then (sometime the game freezes while doing that).

You dont like it dont add games.... and I've even suspended my co-webbies sites on Emuring for exactly the same thing...

This is a good site - I've been around the scene for a VERY long time now - probably more time than most of you put together *puts walking stick down*- and I've seen a lot of sites appear and disappear.. And this is one of the best to come along in a while (not the best tho :D )

Screenshots are easy enough to do using all the methods shown - hypersnap works perfectly with dos games . i usually use snagit..

And like it or not - content stealing is content stealing..

but glad you're sorting it out...

Which DosBox version do you have?
For me it didn't work until I got 0.63
