I've got an old Big Red Racing CD here (used to love having LAN games at school :)), and it has both DOS and Windows versions. Unfortunately I can't get it to work much. So far I've tried:
DOS version in Windows XP: Starts, but freezes at the name entry screen. Even the text doesn't shake like normal.
Windows version in Windows XP: Windows complains it's not a valid Win32 application.
DOS version in DOSBox: Starts, but anything with 3D objects like the vehicle selection screen and the races is unplayably jerky. I have a P4 3 GHz with 1 GB of RAM and was using 20000 cycles, so I don't think it's just my machine's spec.
Has anyone had better results than these?
