No Problem. Ubisoft has also released some free games that are ad supported. I downloaded far cry. All that happens is before loading times you see a 10 second mcdonalds commercial. Though I haven't figured out how to play multiplayer as it asks for a cd-key that was not provided.

I was downloading it by Firefox and that was my mistake... :(
Now I'm using Opera and it works just fine (for now ;) ) Of course speed isn't fair enough (about 10-11 KB/s), but I am happy, that it works... ;)

i have tried "free download manager" (2.5), identified as netscape navigator on their server and it works fine (with same terrible speed)

The good thing about Opera is that, that You can exit browser without loosing Your so far downloaded files... It's very helpfull when You download large files - like thoose, which we trying to download right now. ;)

I downloaded it with Firefox and using the DownThemAll! Extension. Both ISOs downloaded at an average of 255kb/s. Pretty darn fast if you ask me. Anyways if anybody could figure out how to get multiplayer working for this, I'd be up for a match or two. I've been playing C&C 3 a lot because C&C Gold doesn't have online :(

their patched dll denies any lan games so hamachi is not an option. we would need to buy it to play online and get serial

Burger Meister
02-09-2007, 02:43 PM
No, you can't play it online because Westwood online service is down and ea never allowed a direct IP connection. Well looks like nobody is playing multiplayer unless we get 56k modem connections.

_r.u.s.s.
02-09-2007, 02:48 PM
or get normal thipx32.dll, which doesnt block lan games but runs it on xp.

Actually EA handed over the WOL servers to a group called XWIS. You can play all the Command and Conquer games except Sole Survivor (I think). Here is their page http://xwis.net/. Just log onto Westwood Online and play.

I've got a 82 hour wait on one ISO and 82 hours on the second ISO.
Speeds using cable: 2.99kb for 82 hours and 3.12kb for the 80 hour. :tai:
Have to admit that my son is downloading like a demon on his PC. I hope I don't blow up my router. LOL

On the official forums, someone suggested that if you're getting slow speeds try this mirror: http://www.gamershell.com/news/41337.html

I haven't tried it myself but the person said they got 17mbps!

gregor

hmm i think it owuld be good to look for the torrents... too bad they didn't do it like that, because that way more users will make it go faster not slower.

I downloaded them with Opera. If you're using Firefox try some download manager because there seem to be service interruptions.

You are flat out amazing, downloaded with no trouble. You FTW!

Gargantuan Orangutan

I downloaded both ISOs with Flashget, on dialup.

BTW, is it normal for there to be "letterboxing" during the game? I thought there was a way to play in fullscreen.

Gargantuan Orangutan
06-09-2007, 07:54 PM
I changed my monitor refresh rate to 70Hz from 60Hz and it fixed the "letterboxing" problem. Strange, I had no idea an LCD was affected by changing the refresh rate, as I thought it was constant. I guess changing the refresh rate does do something. Now the game displays in 720x400, which is accurate fullscreen for my LCD.

Another BTW, where's Covert Operations? Not included?

wq15
06-09-2007, 09:28 PM
I don't think they're included, I had a similar problem on my LCD and changing the rate did the Job. Thanks for the post!

LOL yeah, I already bought the 10 year anniversary pack 2 years ago, it was like 2o bucks at wallmart, really worth it. Is that hamachi worth it? I hear a lot of complaints with it...

Continuing on in the month of September, be sure to keep your eyes right here on our official site at www.commandandconquer.com each week as we plan to celebrate and remember 12 years of Command & Conquer in a number of different ways.
It's a big "Stay Tooned" :)

06-09-2007, 11:15 PM
yeah, anybody got any predictions as to what it could be? I think they will go in order of when each game came out, like first we get c&c next we'll get the next in chronological order.

Gargantuan Orangutan
07-09-2007, 01:05 AM
I'm a bit confused here. Isn't C&C gold suppose to include Covert Operations? Also, there's Covert Operation videos on the ISOs. If you install the rebel release of C&C gold (which is a Win98 rip that will also work with an original C&C disc, but also this one apparently) you'll see the CO movies streaming from the disc and a more dynamic title screen loader for the game, and of course you'll be able to play the CO missions.

I already bought it, but I gave the Soviets disk as a gift to my uncle and I lost the Allieds cd.

And I just remembered I have the original C&C here, and Ill try to run it with DOSBOX.

Red Alert is one of the best RTS I've ever played...maybe Dune2000 story was better, but it was amazing with choppers, planes, submarines....DOGS!!!

Well, C&C games didnt had a lot of story, but they had a lot of style. And I loved the dogs too :D

Also, they were some of the few games of the time that had "realistic" units and story: Dune 2 was Sci-fi, Warcraft was fantasy, Age of Empires was ancient and most other games were about WWII or other setting.

Btw, I´ve played the original a bit, and I was quite impressed by its quality: Videos in every stage, great music and everything is very polished. Those were the times when producers cared about more than just graphics.

Dave

Probably the next release will be Command & Conquer - The Covert Operations
Expansion pack of the first C&C :ok:
(fifteen new difficult single player missions :))

Doesn't work for me :(

I installed the GDI disk and copied the thipx32.dll over the old one but when I start, the screen just goes black and nothing happens. I tried all different graphics options (there are only 2) and both resolutions in the setup but nothing worked... any ideas? :sos:

Edit: Ok, I forgot to set the Win95 compatibility options, shame on me :whistling:

I think this game taught me new swear words when it came out... That is all the more surprising as I was a Soldier and I knew lots of them. This game was stealing my life and it got damn hard too.

So, needless to say I am going to treat myself to even more new swear words and lock my life in a cupboard as I won't be needing it for a few weeks. :P

Great Link, Thanks!
