I am trying to run the dos version of X-Com with Dosbox. I have installed the program with Dosbox but every time I try to start the game it goes to a black screen with no sound at all. If anyone has encountered this problem before please let me know of any way I can solve it. I am craving to play this game, I would be very thankful for any help on getting this game to work. Thank you for your time.

try different version of dosbox and different core settings. for me it doesnt work on 0.65 but goes without any problem with 0.70
also, there are more excutables, you are supposed to run ufocd.bat

Initial thought: It's a soundcard issue. The default for DOSBox is soundblaster 16, add=220, irq=7, dma=1, hma=5. If you cannot set the sound in the game setup/config, then change these settings in the DOSBox configuration file before restarting DOSBox. See if this helps.

I am using Dosbox 0.71. All of the sound card settings are the same as you suggested. No luck in getting the program to start. The program is installed to C:\MPS\UFO.

Did you try running it with an earlier version of DOSBox?

The same thing happens with 0.65. I installed the 1.0 to 1.2 update for x-com and now I receive a black screen and the comment "cannot open C:geodata/interwin.dat".

This is what I have in the config file:

[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
mount C C:\DOS\CDrive
mount D K:\ -t cdrom (or any other letter of your CD drive)
C:
CLS

not sure if this is preventing the game from loading.

Did you try hitting a random key or clicking the mouse?

I just downloaded the dos version of which you have a link on the review on this site. Unziped it, fired up DOSBox 0.63 (it's the latest version I've installed on my computer) and I used UFOCD.BAT to start the game.

Worked flawlessly...

If you have more problems, I'd start looking for external reasons... Like graphic card issues, or something...
