I remember playing the demo on one of my old Computer Games Strategy Plus cds. Wow was that some fun strategy. Ranks right up there with M.A.X. in strategy imho.

I was expecting more management in the game, not just some sort of RTS action.

Well, even with VDMSound or DOSBox I did not been able to make my Z CD version to play with sound. The game always crash.

My last attemp was almost succesful, the only problem is that whenever I wanted to start the first mission the game crashed... But everything else before, like the sound, the music and the intro sequence worked fine... :(

I've been playing Z a while ago, and I found it fascinating how good this game was. Too bad that it was a shareware version... :( Playing 1 level 100 times...

That means it is not abandoned?

The way theese companies work is confusing, just because they are selling it doesn't mean it isn't abandon by the producers right?

A. J. Raffles
14-11-2005, 09:37 PM
If it's sold it's not abandoned. Nothing confusing about that.

Sean
14-11-2005, 09:38 PM
That isn't always the case is it?

If so at least 5 of the games on here need to be removed.

I got the game, bought it fair and square for $2.50!!!
Its pretty good but I always think of good newer games like DOW and star and warcraft and give up on it.
If becomes Abandoned (sometime) I might just upload it for you. :D

Magic, though I agree that it should be "abandoned", and perhaps (just perhaps) the admins here agree, they still can break the rules only by so far, if nothing else, to save the site since it is in the crosshairs of a certain company.

On the other hand, some useless info, I HATED the game Z. I considered it the worst strategy game in all existance. I would perhaps still do, but I haven't played it till the time it was originaly released.

You can buy the game from CD Access - http://www.cdaccess.com/html/quick/zpr.htm

Hamster of Doom

Or try searching for it on ebay. Very often the prices are much better when compared to other shops, that sell old games.
If youīre lucky, you can even find the collectors edition. (Although the CE will cost you more than the normal version, but itīs worth the price.)

Timpsi
21-12-2005, 05:00 AM

Ah, true. Nevertheless, the site is "the Polish eBay", and excellent for the people there to look old games from - and I'm sure Z will be there too.

I've checked the Bitmap Brothers website - http://www.bitmap-brothers.co.uk/our-games/past/z.htm and most of their games have links in the "other" section on the right have side of the games page for where it can be purchased. The fact that there is no such link on the Z page suggests to me that the Bitmap Brothers no longer intend to sell this game and as such would not object to it become Abandonware.

Tom Henrik
18-11-2006, 10:11 PM
However, if you had checked the AW List (http://abandonia.com/main.php?nav=awlist), you'll have noticed that the game is indeed sold (http://www.cdaccess.com/html/quick/zpr.htm).

JoM
18-11-2006, 10:14 PM
Just because it's being sold by a private site, does that mean it's officially not abandonware? I could download a game off here, hunt for weeks for my old box of it (That's what I mainly use this site for - games I've lost) and set up a site to sell it. Would you have to take down the link?

Tom Henrik
18-11-2006, 10:19 PM
No, because you would be selling without permission from the publisher, and make money of their work. It would get you into some nice trouble with the law, though.

You can only sell games if you are doing one of the following two things:
1. Selling your own copy of the game (second hand).
2. Sell a new copy of the game (first hand).

In order for us to declare a game as sold, it needs to be first hand merchandise. In order for someone to sell a first hand merchandise, they need permission from the copyright holder.

CDAccess is not selling used copies. Nor are they selling illegal copies.

hey hey,
I've been trying to find this game for awhile. They made a remake of it recently(like 8 years ago) but before the new game, I believe this game was called simply "Z". In this game you controlled posts that created armies after a certain time had lapsed. I believe this game was dos based but I cant remember.
It had great gameplay and it could be a great addition to the site.:)

The Game Z, pretty much its red vs blue robots in a capture the flag type game, its old but its really fun and I dont know if its abandoned or not, there two versions of it though the DOS version which I actually have; but unfortunatly for me only works on windows 98 and before *and my 98 computer is still at our old house* the other is for Windows adn can be played on XP which I dont have but its supposed to be more 'up to date' and all that junk.

Anyways Hopefully we can all play this game, I originally wanted to get it to show my friends and see how great it is *and to get them off of Call of Duty 4 for a while* but my DOS version didnt work on the schools computers...anyways hope you can thanks!

Eventually you can run dosbox 0.73 + Z from an USB key (school computers...? Tssss..)
