The Abandonia Logo

A new site, a new logo. You guys have actually seen it already, since it's already on our shirts. But I'll introduce it anyway so you people will know it's official

This beauty! :P

We changed it because the old one needed a revision badly. We want the new site to be a fresh start. The new one still has the same kind of feel, but has been simplified and has more contrast to make it stand out more. Apart from that, it shows our progress, Hence the 'isometric pixels with perspective'.

Aside from that, it just looks better on our new site and shirts :D

The fact is that Abandonia kicks behind. I'm getting my master degree with a work about games, and Abandonia gives great material to work with. And, besides that, I'm a freaking game lover, have been gaming before I learned to write, and Abandonia is a nice place to talk about it. At least at some point, everyone here thinks in a similar way about games: graphics are not the most important and old games are not necessarily bad games.

I don't know what you mean. the second logo IS the new logo. That's the logo we'll have from now on. :)

I like the old one better, but maybe that's due to the fact I'm used to it.
Frankly, Abandonia does not need to be modern, the old logo has that great 'retro' feel which perfectly fits its content; a feature I do not find in the new logo. Apart from that it's just prettier.
But hey, I'm a bad designer and the new one is good too. :)

I have my Abandonia t-shirt since about a year now, and I like the new logo a lot. It's really great in black and white. :)

It always takes time to get used to a new design / logo. That's because there is some emotional attachment towards the design of a site where you come a lot. When we created the current design and the current logo, a lot of people disliked it and preferred the older design. Nowadays, people like it. I'm sure you guys will be happy with the new site design after you've got used to it. :).

beside from this new logo, the new design also features new mascottes. These characters will replace the invader as the main character. This is because we just cannot claim a space invader as part of our identity, since it's a registered logotype and because it's just not ours to take. The invader won't be gone. It will just be used as a an icon ''on the side''.

The new icons more then make up for it. I'm sure you guys will like them. I'll show them soon!

Generally, the logo looks far too modern and "cool". On a retro site, it looks horribly out-of-place. But since it will not be changed (unless we make some sort of a contest for a new logo), I guess that we'll just have to get over it.

There is lots of room for improvement, though.
First, the new "Abandonia" 3d text seems to be far too tilted, and is quite unreadable - it looks like "ABONDON'O", as I already said elsewhere.
Second, the pixelated guy doesn't look too good - I see why you decided to drop the space invader, but this bespectacled gentleman could definitely be improved! He is composed of rectangles and straight lines, which makes him look like a rush job.
Three, the two elements of the logo (the proper logo and the talking guy) are too far away from each other. (Generally, there is far too much white on the top of the site - and on the whole site in general - but I'm assuming it will be changed, and the site will eventually have some of this "color" thing.)
Four, "dedicated to classic dosgames" is wirtten in too small and blurry letters.
