Hi.
I thought it'd be fun to ask: Do you prefer the classic Doom, or the new Doom 3?
I vote for the classic Doom. But what do you think? :w00t:
Edit: Ahh, I forgot to add a reject option on the questions.

good choise, lord of darkness
it s something like original doom but with more weapons and better maps. well, but one thing which i missed in doom 2 from the first one was that cool map of the planet after each mission. its not much difference, but still gives you impression of 'dominating the planet' so you could get in to the story line better ..and it doom 2 it seemed to be pretty random sometimes

Of all the Doom games I liked Ultimate Doom (4 episodes) and all parts of Doom II the most. Especially TNT - Evilution had great maps that I loved to visit again and again. Didn't play Doom 3 though, and I guess I won't either. Too bad I can choose only Doom I or II, so I chose Doom II.

Anyone remember my thread about how scary video games were a dead race?
Doom 3 proved me wrong. That game freaked the living christ out of me.

Doom2. The Icon of Sin is one of the best original bosses. I love nostalgia
I'll make that Revenant dance the chaingun cha-cha. :rifle: :monkey_dance:

The original Dooms at that time gave this feeling of being in a new world. The step to the third dimension was done and it looked and felt just perfect.
Although being hungry for CPU cycles (I remember having played it on a 486/24 first, where you had to make the screen smaller to get smooth animations, just like "lowering the details" today) like Doom 3 and other current FPS are now with today's CPUs, it was just different. Not the gameplay... Doom 3 did a really good job transferring the nightmarish and oppressive feeling of the original, however, when it was released, it was one of many FPS I already have seen yet. Not the same feeling as with the originals. Strange enough, when playing them now, I still don't have this feeling any more... they just look... well... dated.
Looks like this feeling is gone foverer... :crybaby: at least until something really new will come up
Doom 3 is s**t. Apart from graphics, nothing interest. I had to always walk with spotlight, because it is damn dark there. I liked Doomsday, windows module, which can handle Hexen, Heretic and Dooms with OpenGL and 3D models.

This happened here too, my friend. Nothing to be ashamed of. Doom 3 reached a new level in putting fear in who is playing. And I saw someone complaining about having to use the spotlight all the time cause it was dark and I say: Isn't it genious? The game is supposed to scare you, not to show you where the items are. And it sure did it. With me, at least. Thumbs up for Doom 3. :kosta:
Oh yeah. :)
That's also why this game sucks. Damn heart-attack generator. :)
Monsters from the dark and behind.

I thought that too. The poor light just adds to the atmosphere. Monsters popping out of the shadows always shocks the crap out of me. I saw someone a few posts up use the phrase "oppressive". I can't think of a better word to describe the atmosphere of Doom 3. Those zombies...jesus.

Doom 3 is a just a big seizure generator.
Classic.

Gotta go with the classic here. Still play it constantly. Doom 3 was great for that first run through, absolutely terrifying, but stagnates in the face of the arcade goodness that is the original Doom.

Once you realize that you're fighting completely fictional characters on a video game with the gamma settings pushed up higher with some training gameplay while on god mode, you kind of get over it after a while.

I got Doom 3 like 4 weeks ago, but I haven't played it yet (my spare time is not that much as it used to be <_< ) . Anyway I think Doom will be the winner because of the memories it brings back.

Before looking at the votes, I was almost ashamed to vote II. At first I didn't like it, it didn't add anything to the game, it just felt like an expansion pack, no technical progression at all. But once I was playing it I realized it was a reaaly good expansion pack.

I know I'm kind of jumping in here, but it was a really stupid idea to not be able to hold the flashlight w/
at least some of the guns. Couldn't he find any duct tape to strap it to the shotgun? How 'bout holding it like
a police officer when he had his handgun out? Is that impossible? No. Doom 2. At least they didn't give you the option...but the new expansion was EXCELLENT, so maybe I'll vote for that.

Well, considering I hate scary games, and I found DOOM to be rather funny, I much prefer the classics.

Old Dooms:
I voted for Doom 1, because Doom 2 had a bunch of frustrating levels in the middle (starting around level 15 or so). Too many monsters on tall buildings that you couldn't shoot at. Apparently they had a different level designer for that section.
New Dooms:
I voted for the expansion because there was a bit of stuffing around before killing anything substantial in the original.

I think doom3 sucks behind, and i think the doom movie were better than doom3 :P
But doom and doom 2 has the cult status they deserve, the movie is a scham to these classics and i love them, i still play em from time to time, and they should be upthere with starcraft and opther games which deserve to be honorated for their genious gameplay :)

Nah, I prefer first quake more than any of these. Sure doom and doom 2 were classics when they came out but I don't like them that much anymore. Doom 3 was quite frustrating, but the graphics were awesome. Expansion was much better, no wonder because it wasn't made by ID. :)

Original Doom is still one of my fave games of all time! The joy is hardley lessened!
Never really got into new dooms too much, but in saying so, never really gave them much change with all my "pure doom" theories!!
I have doom on my mobile tho...
That kinda rocks some :ok:

I voted for Doom2 :) My parents probably still hate it. I used to skip classes to play! eheheh :D
i have doom 3:ROE on xbox and it's not that impressive really. i've put more time into quake 4 on the 360 in that respect. In reference to the old dooms, i prefer doom II. but whichever one i play, their a lot of fun on the move (if you have a psp that's homebrew capable and the wad's, get the psp port :D)
Original Dooms (1 and 2). Also, you can play doom in the iPOD (i think its the ipod), that rocks.

Can't vote :/
Problem is that my favorite Doom isn't in the poll.
It ain't Doom neither Doom3.
It's the mixture of both.
DOOM 3 - Classic Doom 3 v1.1 FINAL
Doom (1) maps ported to Doom3.
You get Doom gameplay on Doom3 graphics.
And of course multiplayer included. Yéééééééhaw.
The mod is of course freeware, those who have Doom3 really should try this out.
(You need the full Doom3 1.3 to be able to use that mod.)

I appreciate that this is an old-school gaming community - and I personally voted Doom 2 because it's just one of my favourite games ever - but I wish people would stop attacking Doom 3 so much. It's a good game, and I can give you one reason it deserves to be a part of the Doom franchise - it's scary as hell sometimes. Remember how when you were playing Doom 2 you'd be wandering along, then come around a corner and - ARGH zombie in the face! Doom 3 has plenty of that, I jumped a lot while playing it.
