View Full Version : Virus - The Game

I have a rather rare (I think) item lying around....
It is called Virus, it is for WIN95, and it is NOT the famous Virus game where you hover around with a vector spaceship in a vector landscape...
This game was made by some pretty unknown Software-Makers from...Israel? I think.
This game was fun, because it took place on your actual harddisk!!!
It was a 3D-Command&Conquer style RTS-Game where the prog scanned your drive (and drives...this depended on the difficulty level) and then used your HD-Tree as the gaming zone. U had a descent-like aircraft to fly around, build bases and hunt down the virus, which does the same with his spawns. Obviously, you had to prevent them from destroying your HD.
And the funniest thing was that the files (folders) you fly through were actually shown in-game (e.g. you search through a pic-folder, and the pics line the walls in that "room", same with standar-WAV-files)
My description is a bit hazy, for I haven't played it for a long time and I'm not sure if it runs with higher windows versions. But i will try, if anyone can tell me if it's abandoned so I can try and pack it up and upload it.

Sounds nifty, but i definitely see a likely compatibility error with the change in file systems.

Hmm, Operation: Inner Space (http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/operation-inner-space) uses a similar technique and runs just fine on my Windows XP system with 2 Matrox HDs, so I don't think it would cause much trouble.
Buy link. (http://www.chipsbits.com/searchresult.asp?CartId={058F1D3B-26B1-4B0B-AB67-350358EVEREST8922E0}&PrevBK=4PAPV1%2EIR&NextBK=SOLDF2%2EMC&Nav=N&SW=Virus&Tp=)
Sorry. I remember reading about this game, but I never tried it. Interesting concept, but I suspect it gets boring after a whlie.
Edit: Hmm, I'm actually not sure if that buy link is for Virus: The Game (which is the one you're talking about). It probably isn't, but it's a bit hard to be sure with no box-shot.
Edit 2: Here is a new buy link (http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/tg/detail/offer-listing/-/B00004TOMF/new/ref=sdp_new_vg/302-1202128-8348833). I don't speak German, though, so I don't know if it's a German version. I did manage to understand that it wasn't used, though.

I recall having the demo of this game at some point, I was really quite young and didn't have a clue what was going on though LOL

I'm trying to remember a game I had on a cover cd for a PC mag. As far as I can remember, you're a ship of some sort within a computer. A virus has set up a base within this computer, and you have to go in and destroy this virus. There were multiple levels within the game, it's all in 3D, some areas within the PC displayed your current desktop (which I found impressive at the time), and occasionally something would appear on screen along the lines of "Do you want to delete *such-and-such*?" to which you have no control of choosing which option you want, as a random skull with arms pops up and presses yes for you. I believe I remember the shock I got when it came up with "Do you want to delete Recycle Bin?" because I though it was real...
