What do you think about new games? Do you like them? Do you like them more than old ones?
There are also enough good new games among the usual current junk. Just think on Gothic 1 + 2 and Warcraft III, of those I played and know.* ;)
But let's not get off topic too far.* :sneaky:
Warcraft III??? :ranting:
Maybe singleplayer, but Multiplayer is C R A P! I played it and didn't like it (to kill a single peassant you have to hit him more than 10 times!!!). In warcraft you hit peassant 2-3 times and he's dead!
I think older games are better, but I can't deny that there are many new games that are awesome!

I'm playing Half-Life 2 currently and it is brilliant but some games (like UFO: Enemy Unknown) are just timeless and will be fun in years to come.

Not a real good game...but still fun..

My favorite and last-played new game was Paper Mario 2. :w00t:
Awesome game. Awesome final boss. :Brain:

The most recent game I have played was Rome: Total War but my computer is not fast enough to make it run well. Max Payne 2 played fantastically but it is not as recent. I am not one of those people who say all recent games are bad. I always follow the most recent development and with my new computer on the way I will also be able to actually play those games well.

Well I'm looking forward to Pirates! as well, but I doubt it will be that much fun. I remember what they did to Defender of the Crown. I still like the new version (it's very playable and some things are improved), but outside the up to date graphics and sounds it's all the same really - so why make it again? Just so it'd look nicer?
It's like remaking old classical movies. Use the theme and make something new with it if you like - use the theme and make a sequel (even after al these years) - but don't just make the same thing using new techniques (that's my opinion at least).

I completed Halo 2 yesterday and it was quite nice indeed! But I admit, I like new games more than old. I don't actually play old games that much anyway. Jetpack is perhaps the one of the few old games that I play very actively.

Where'd this thread come from? Thanks, Unknown Hero!
I usually prefer older games because they made more adventures back in the 80s and 90s.
However a fantasy adventure game was released about four years ago with graphics that are out-of-this-world. Think Myst with a little of Cryo's Atlantis thrown in. Don't know if anyone's heard of it: Longest Journey. It's been very popular winning awards and selling lots. A second game in the series is in production now.

Adventures were always nice until I got stuck. I have played many adventures but finished few. Also the replayability is low. Still many contemporary games have their origins in old time adventures or have some of their gameplay from there.

Adventures - to me - have always been very boring. Basically just clicking the destination and watching the character walking. Then trying to do something with the objects by watching them, using them and so on. Most of the time goes just wandering around and thinking of what to do. Frustration get's very high.
It's just that I like to play games where you can blast your enemys head of with shotgun instead of wasting days to solve a puzzle that moves the asshole out of my way.

The puzzles can be too difficult. While the player is itching to get to the next scene or level, they can't until they work out some complicated problem (much too much like hard work) - or worse - repeat some routine a dozen times or more. The games become playable again after twelve months or so. I wish I still had copies of Zork Nemesis and Atlantis.

Last game I have played. Well I was playing three at once, they were Unreal 2, Vietcong and Medal of Honour Allied Assault. I finished them about 4 months ago haven't played a new game since.
I really need to play a FPS game, one I haven't already played. I feel like I'm going to mad if I don't kill something soon. :ranting:
I can get one for my birthday. :Brain: :Brain: Oh happy days.

Yeah I played the multiplayer version at a internet cafe, I enjoyed it quite a bit. But I'll have to look into this more to find out which one I want.

I don't play much new games (as I think they are too expensive), and last new games that I bought (actually my wife bought for me) were Civilization III and War Craft III. I love both of them, but after I completed War Craft III, I uninstalled it (now that I reformatted HD, there is nothing yet there), but Civ 2 and 3 are games that I always like to have installed on computer.
Another reason I don’t get much new gamesis that I hate to be slow down by hardware, and even my computer should run Doom3 and HL2, I will wait till I upgrade PC later, to get these titles, as I hate low F/s.
Wendymaree,
Thanks for that link. It looks interesting. Is game play similar to Morrowind?

Most anticipated new game at the moment for me would be Civilization 4. It's still years away and we have not heard one thing about where they are taking the new game but I have good hope that it will be better then the last game (they better make it better as I will not buy a game as bad as civ3 again).

Not sure why you did not like 3rd part, but I liked all little things they changed from 2. Graphics looks better, AI is pretty strong (in some cases too strong) and nice game play.

Would you have happened to play Galactic Civilizations (http://www.galciv.com/) by any change.
If not,
You should try it out,
for it might prove to be far more better than Civ 3 ever was,
And it is quite similiar to previous civilizations /inspired by them/,
(but superior in my book)
There is demo on the official site,
if you´d like to try it.

I know about galactic civilizations. I never tried it because I have not seen it in shops here (could be they only sell it on the internet or it has just never been released in the Netherlands). If I find it and the time to play it I will try it as I have heard from many that it is a good game.
Civ3 was not bad but it lacked the edge it's predecessors had. The thing that annoyed me the most was the win/lose battle system. You could lose battles you were not supposed to and the computer would win more often than not in those kinds of cases. I also hated the way the AI cheated. It always new where my lightly defended cities were and always would head straight for them even if it made no strategic sense for them to do so (I found out I could exploit this as well). Civ4 for me should be much more realistic rather then the arcade game that Civ3 (and civ and civ2) was at heart.

well... i havent been really updated in the gaming world... workin too much :wall:
but anyways... nowadays, the console games have gotten RELLY CRAPPY! it kinda pisses me off, cuz theres jus nothin good to buy anymore... nothing is worth my hours of difficult labor that amount to $50 not including tax... but yeah... console games today jus kinda suck... the replay values have become horrible, unlike the classics...

One thing that I feel completely killed Warcraft III is the incorporation of RPG elements in heroes like leveling with XP, choosing a skill at level up and items.
What kind of players do you have then? What kind of gameplay? The heroes are 50 times more important than the minions following them then. No sense in that in multiplayer, since the player rushing to get XP and levels quick will have so much of an edge it's not even funny.
Probably interesting in single player tough. Probably. But really not something I like.

Singleplayer is really interesting there, and in fact the only interesting aspect of the game. It's a shame they didn't allow to play singleplayer-missions together with many people, cooperatively.
Instead they chose to let multiplayer be like it was in Warcraft II already, so it's not really that interesting...
