I was wondering how many people would be interrested in cd image files as a download rather then a rip like most games you find on abandonware sites. The advantage of image files over rips is that you have complete games without missing movie files and such. The disadvantage is of course you need a cd burner (or at least a virtual cd rom drive) for it to work at all.
So how do you all feel about putting up image files?

I think that's a great idea - it always gets to me when I download a game and find out it doesn't have sound effects or music or digitised speech. Although practically I think we'd have to supply a rip as a download next to the CD image because of not everybody having CD writers and also some people still only have dial-up access and downloading large files would be a no-no.

Plus imagine how much space that would take up.... 7GB for 10 titles? Whooosh... maybe when I win the lottery :)

images don't have to be large. I was thinking specifically about an image of master of magic. I'll check into how big that would be precisely.

I think that is a very good idea, especially with the fact that I'm pretty soon gonna get broadband. The only problem (and its a pretty big problem as Kosta said) is the size.

edit: i thought i was going crazy when i wrote that name... funny.

Good sugestion Picard... BUT.. as allready pointed out, the ONLY problem is the size...
The last few additions have been in the 20-40 MB range, and that is at the upper limit i guess.. :(

Good idea picard ...but parallel to cd images you should keep ripped games because not everybody(including me  ) has cd writers

In the case of Master of Magic I have both a rip and the actual cd so as long as Kosta OK's that we could put them both up.

I do believe there is a way to use CD images without turning it into a CD
and if there isn't... I oppose

yea there is a way. I can't remember the name but It makes a virtual
cd-rom thenn you can extract the ISO image onto this "drive" and play from there.

Clone CD can do this and there are no doubt many many others with similar abilities. Clonce CD is not free though.

Sounds like a good idea for a game like Master of Magic which has a comparatively small archive, but for larger games it would just put too much strain on the server. At the very least we'd have to introduce a size-limit...
