I was recently on a job shadow (computer hardware engineer) and the people there showed me their shop full of unwanted computers. They called it the graveyard. Anyway, they gave me a laptop and it didn't even work. However, I did manage to bring it back to life, and install Windows 98 SE onto it. Now I only use it for school work and DOS gaming.

Specs:
Dell Inspiron 3000 M200ST
Windows 98 SE
Pentium 1 MMX processor
32MB RAM
3GB Hard Drive capacity
I was able to establish a broadband connection with a Belkin Wireless G card, but when I pluged it back in the second time, the screen turns black and the computer freezes(I'm trying to fix it).

So far, I've been able to run all DOS games. And right now, I'm about to install DOS BOX so that I don't have to switch to pure DOS mode to play some of the games.

That is fun I must admit!

I have a Siemes-nixdorf PCD-5 notebook with:
Pentium 75
16MB RAM
60MB HDD
FDD
Infra-red
+ external mouse and keybord (these built-in does not work...)
quite nice to play some old games ;)
but I can't play World of Xeen - it's too large for my disk  Maybe if I would uninstall Win 3.1 and started using only NC ... hmm

All, who love old games and old computers come to abandonia :brain:

Yeah it is fun. I've been playing UFO on it. And I can admit that this game has to be one of the better games i've ever played. I would like to install an external mouse to the laptop though.

I would like my internal laptop mouse working!
It's not a touchpad, which is in my opinion crappy stuff - it's good old trackball :D

I have a really good oldie in my storage area. I'm not exactly sure on the details, but it's something like this:

Compaq Presario
486
32mb Ram
Windows 95
no ethernet, only modem

I also have an unopened original version of windows 95, would anyone know how much that would go for on say, ebay?

It's really more of a collector's item than anything... can either end up very low or very high, depending if such individuals spot the auction.

I do not know what happened, but my laptop is working. Some post ago I was complaining about keybord and mouse. Yesterday i opened it, connected the cables (that i disconected couple of month ago - because it was not working), and now it works!

YAY :D

I hope it will stay working

Dell Inspiron 3000 M200ST
[/b]

It will continue to work for a time, and then the battery will just stop one day. I can't prove it, but I believe Dell has been putting in little microchip timers clocking how many times the batt has been charged before a circuit cuts in to just stop it recharging altogether (forcing you to buy another Dell battery or replace the laptop). There's a bit on Google about it. I have an Inspiron 3200 that suffered from this. Inspiron 3xxx-series are some of the oldest.

DOS 7.10 + NC 5.5

Sweet. 7.10 is the best but to be realistic you use 6.22 which is also good.

The only really important difference is FAT-32 support.

The other main one but its slightly more minor is long file name support.

I bought an old pc only for dosgaming. There was a red switch at the back i wondered and turned it on (the power socket was connected) and it explode

It was for changing the voltage

Lesson for both of you: Don't mess with switches if you don't know what they do.
