Even if it was not being sold the size of the game might be a problem. We should investigate further if we were to consider adding it to the list.

They sell the game in stores here. And also it's 2 CD game.
Game it self is my favorite RTS.

Total annihilation in my mind was one of the best strategy games of its type, it kept me busy for hours, the gameplay lasts a long time, and with so many different units to download and things to try, it doens't get boring fast for me.
So, can anyone help put it on here? i hope it isn't too big :(
I have the cd but i don't know anything about how to get in on here :(

What do you mean by this: "I have the cd but i don't know anything about how to get in on here"?
TA is two CD, which is over 1 GB of files. I don't believe it will be soon on the site. (unless someone rips music from the game, but then it's not the same expiriance)
I installed game trough win98, and then just made copy of game folder to XP. (as I was unable to install it directly from XP)

i have it on one cd here, and yes, that includes both campaigns and multiplayer stuff.

with the music or without the music?
I purchased game twice :) and both versions were on 2 cds.

I have it as well and it also commes on two CD's for me. Not sure those CD's are full though. They are two different campaigns and there is not that much info there.
Not sure if the game is abandoned. I think it is still sold and if so this discussion is accademic.

I have not seen it for a long time in local computer/games shops. Not sure if online stores have the game. But even if they do, game is still to big for site.
I got both extension packs (that was reason I bought it second time, as it was complete game, with official strategu guide and both extension packs).
Great game, my favorite RTS.
Sold (http://www.cdaccess.com/html/pc/totalann.htm)

Yes it is a great game. I don't have the expansion packs but the vanilla TA is still great. One of the only RTS games I like. I do think TA: Kingdoms is even better. The units there are better balanced and more diverse.
Rogue
25-01-2005, 07:13 PM
I did not like TA Kingdom, not sure why. I played couple levels, and then put CD a side...
What happend to CaveDog?
Sold to Atari?
Wahoo
25-01-2005, 08:28 PM
yeah atari bought them.
Still if ta is being sold there then civ 2 should be taken off this site also as that is still being sold.
looks like gt-interactive also links to the atari website.
Well, i know for a fact that the game was being sold by "sold out gaming" before, i checked their website and it is no longer on their list, so i assume therefore it is completely abandonned.

TA: CD1 + CD2 = 554 MB
The Expantion CC = 364 MB
Those are the rips i've made myself of it.
It's w/o music.
Anyway, waaaaaay too big.
And still sold on budget..

still sold at my local CD store. Though if and when it is finally abandoned (perhaps another 2 yeras or so) then it would be good to see it on here.

Is Total Annihilation kingdoms abandoned yet? I played the demo of it and enjoyed it, anyone know what size it is, if it's small enough can we have it on the site?

Once again, CDAccess pisses on the abandonware scene from a great height.
I've been looking at other requested games and it would seem that CDAccess are getting a bit cheeky.
Top example: Nuclear Strike - About 10yrs old - $28.95!
I'm a Brit and even here that's like 20ish quid! BOOO! HISS!
I really hope that Total Annihilation does get abandoned soon, especially the addon packs (near impossible to find, much to my displeasure) as I snapped the disks by accident when I knelt down to pick up a 20 pence piece in my room! (they were in my pocket)
Rogue
23-03-2005, 07:15 PM
I have them, and I still prefer TA over any other RTS. As for Core Contigancy (or what's else is called) extension, I never menaged to complete first mission. (that big robot destroyed me every time)
Also for TA Kingdoms I paid 20 bucks at the time game came out. This price is really strange...
BeefontheBone
23-03-2005, 07:35 PM
TA:K was a bit naff, which was a huge disappointment for me - the original was the first game I ever really found myself looking forward to before it came out (what? 3D? lemme see that!). I have also managed to lose (or lend and never get returned) my TA CD on at least 2 occasions, and also both expansion packs at one point, which I still haven't managed to recover/replace :(
PrejudiceSucks
25-03-2005, 01:39 PM
The original TA is a classic and needs to be honoured as such on this site. CDAccess is the only place I have seen that sells it, and they are taking the piss at that price.
What we need is a copy of TA and all of its expansion packs, that would be great.
Thermodynamics

For those who are noting the size of the game as being much too large-
All of the music is in standard audio format (I play the CD's in my car occasionally), which is obviously very compressible. Could the music be converted to mp3 and the game engine tweaked to play it?

Total Anihilation is far from being an "old" game and I really doubt it to be abandonware.
Danny252
26-07-2005, 09:38 AM
Not sold unless its second hand, I can bet. But its is WAY too big for abandonia, at 261 MB on my pc with both expansion packs. The designer for the game is making a new one, Supreme commander, which looks good...
the game was from 1997, and as far as I know all righrts to Cavedog games now belong to Atari. that's in ESA (I think...).

There's even planetTA.com for chrissakes! It's nowhere near abandoned.

It's also huge - 2CDs. Just buy it, you won't regret it. If you can get the expansion pack(s) you're onto even more of a winner.

I asked the guys at Classic Gaming and they said it's neither ESA or Solid... I have the old ISO cds from when I bought it when I was younger. If you want I can upload a RIP or the ISOs, your choice. I also have the Core Contingency Expansion Pack.

These "guys at Classic Gaming" are completely wrong.
Total annihilation - GT Interactive - 1997.
GT Interactive is a subsidiary company of Atari, thus covered by ESA.
Furthermore, GT Interactive falls under "10 years rule", which means this game will be "safe" somwhere around 2008.
Given the size you mentioned, it wold be far too big for the site anyway.
Not sure whether it's sold or not, though that may be likely.
guesst
03-08-2006, 05:19 PM
5thHM is correct. As much as we'd love to host this awesome game it too big for the site (with rare exceptions CD games are not hosted on Abandonia), is less than 10 years old, and yes ESA protected.
It's too back, tho. A groundbreaking RTS if ever there was one.
Burger Meister
03-08-2006, 05:38 PM
If it wasn't ESA protected I could make a cd rip... it'd be around 100mb
guesst
03-08-2006, 06:05 PM
Well, go ahead and do that, but just hold on to it. In another few years we'll be able to host it. Who knows, maybe by then we'll be hosting bigger games!

Anyone want me to take pictures?
Burger Meister

Sure, I don't have boxes, I only have cd cases... my mom always throws out my boxes
Tom Henrik
04-08-2006, 09:35 AM
Tell your mom to stop that. She is throwing away a fortune. Gameboxes are collectibles, and can sell for an awful lot just a few years into the future.
For instance, Taikara has a complete set of Sierra Quest boxes in prime condition, along with every manual and even a 300+ pages King's Quest "player's guide". If she were to sell that (something I hope she won't :P) she could make several thousand dollars on them - and the games are just a bit over 20 years old ;)
So the bottom line is: Tell your mom that she is throwing away your college money. Parents don't really know the value of computer stuff, so you need to inform them.

Time for some B0x-pr0n!
This little photo-session just made me wanna play it right away :)
The TA-box has the name in raised gold print, so you can feel the name on the box :)

Same on the back-side, also raised.

The Expantion-box has a double-front, that folds open, and i just sooo nice.
http://www.abandonia.com/~titan/TA4.JPG
Front+back of expantion.
http://www.abandonia.com/~titan/TA1.JPG
AND... the most important part, the CD's have been used ONCE.. for the ripping, as i do with all my games.
Great pictures!
I have a different box. (a replay version).
I do have the original TA kingdoms box though. But that wasn't as much fun as the prequel

He's a guy who used to work at Lucasarts and is the man behind the first two monkey island games. The guy has done more for adventure gaming than most other developers combined, among other things he recruited Tim Shaeffer (the guy behind full trottle, grim fandango and psychonauts).

And TA is still me and my friends favourite game to play on the LAN when they come round. When it works, LOL...
