It is one of the best, but I would not agree it's the best.

IMHO, number 1 would be Civ2, then X-Com followed but Settler and MOO/MOM (somewhat they seems the same).

Well you probably already know that I consider CIV II as the worse Civilization game in the serie. For Xcom, yes it's good but it's far from MOO and it's newer. For The Settlers, it's truely a classic. However there is not nearly as much gameplay in The Settlers than in MOO. :bleh:

For MoM, I have no idea what that title is. I don't remember a tittle related to MOO...

Master of Magic - MOM

X-com newer title?

OK,
if Settler does not have a lot of gameplay, how about elite? :D

Wing Commander: Privateer, is one of the best games ever.

Isn't MOO older than Xcom?

Elite might be fun, but it sure wasn't my cup of tea. Free will? Sure. :zzzzz:

MoM never been a huge hit for me... Quite a Civ clone IMHO, only difference is the Fantasy theme.

Master of Orion: 1993

X-Com: 1994

So not so big difference (for me they are from the same era).

Elite was top of the simulation / resource menagement in 80's.

That game was huge and very interesting.

This is only my opinion.
Total annihilation is another one of my favorites...

i like moo cuz it brings me back to my younger years when i was first experianceing pc gaming.

ive beat moo at least 50 times, but it still is loads of fun to play. that says something...

Everyones personal opinion aside, Master of Orion is one of the defining PC games in history. It spawned in entire strategy format (although perhaps short lived).

I prefer Ascendancy :tomato:

I know that MOO came first but Ascendancy took the best ideas form MOO and added to them.

Well... If you've read other threads you know that I would not give Ascandency more than 3...

this is about oldies, and the great things about old games is that the creators of said games were on the frontier so to speak, making games that no on else had even thought of. nowadays a new game is based on an older gaem wich is based on an even older game. this is why master of orion is my favorite, its not only a fun game, but its a legend among TBS games, adn in my opinion, one of the best strategy games of all time. The replay value alone deserves much recognition...

sorry about bad spelling, i broke a finger

I'm not saying that MOO is bad, but just that it was not the game that amazed me same as the X-Com. Both of them are turn based, but X-Com turns to be a game that no other games came close to. (I played both first time about the time they came out) Same happened couple years later with Civ2.

So I would agree that MOO can offer many hours of play!

I didn't see anything fancy about master of orion. UFO was hell of a scary game in those times, but they weren't good enough to me to become superclassic. I understand that many people respect those games but I've always been more to arcade- or games that are more action packed.

MOO2 is the best strategy ever made. Even better than Civ (maybe civ3 can be compared with it)

in the end it comes down to what u were brought up on. I was introduced to moo at an early age and got hooked, i cant get enough of it... cant.... get.... enough... MOO... ever.... its almost scary...

honestly, ive put more hours into moo than any other game ever... and its still as fun as the day i started
