View Full Version : A Movie I Made

Stroggy

A short and strange movie I made a few weeks ago.
disregard the fact that its episode 3, episode 1 and 2 were just my first attempts.
They contained no animation (just stills with text and some music)

I dare you to guess where the music is from!

anyway, without further delay, I present to you:

A Zymler Cinematographic Production.

Written by: Michael Zymler

Directed by: Michael Zymler

Shallow III : The Tube (http://users.pandora.be/michzym/episode3.WMV)

Riiight...

Have you ever considered therapy?

I liked it though...

But Iīm insane,
so that recudes the value of my opinion.

/are the voices supposed to sound like that?/

Heh, I'm quite distrurbingly normal in real life.

Thanks for your opinion

Since my voice sucks I recorded my voice and then reversed it, to give it that weird sound
:D

well since i'm still very new and the mediums used weren't really made for what I used them for the movie isn't exactly as i had intended it to be.
For example I think the ending was way to abrupt.

But I've learned from my errors and have started work on Episode IV: Aerial Escape

Wael

Stroggy
11-11-2004, 05:53 PM
yes yes, I know its weird.

But what about the rest?
Should I increase the ammount of details? (most of them do get lost due to the poor quality of the video, so it would be pointless to add them)

Should I make it longer? (I spent atleast 3 days making episode 3 and it only lasts a few seconds)

Here are my ideas:
Currently I am using Photoshop to make since in .gif while this is works gifs are meant to be used as smaller animation in avatars and signatures, not movies. I then use a low end program like Windows Movie maker to stick the gifs together and add sound.
I add sound by recording my voice and then reversing it.

While this obviously works, I get the feeling I'm using a lot of different mediums to achieve an effect for which one would usually use another program.

So I think my efforts are better spent learning Flash and creating movies in there.
This greatly increases detail and lowers filesize, ofcoarse I've heard its a totally different medium compared to the programs I'm using now.

anyway, thats what I think

Rogue

Try to use FLASH ;)

I missed this: 'So I think my efforts are better spent learning Flash and creating movies in there.'

Totally agree!

Now if I could only find a store in Belgium selling Flash

I wish you good luck with Flash then...
It's so damn difficult and complex, I gave up the first moment I saw the shareware version of some Flash MX. :eeeeeh:

I've heard Flash is difficult...

But I think I can muster the brainpower to learn it

The first movie is 450M (24min) and the second 1.3G (68min).
That's the advantage of being a teache at school (you can get the kids to play in a movie you want to make - too bad we only have a lousy VHS-C camera, so the qualiti is just horrible - almost unwatchable).

that is quite a hefty download, indeed.

After Dutroux, police in Belgium would be knocking down your door just for saying that :)

From my experiance, but I only used this for editing, it's very easy (and you can geti it for. free) to actually use Virtual Dub. Don't know if you're familiar with the program. It's simple and you can use it together with paint (just asics). Just make all the frames you want and put them together in a movie (you must only calculate how many frames must be the same - 25 frames are 1s of time - so just make 25 copies of a frame and you have 1 s. of time covered). You can also add music with this and put the movie into an avi format. Not the best way I guess, but it is for free!

Nah, I'm not into child pornography.
One movie is about Death - who came to Eart and killed a girl, to do the house choirs. The girl's soul had to come back on earth to solve the murder and hired some detectives, but because Death shouldn't kill for its own selfish reasons anyway, the soul was alowed to return to her body and the detective nearly got a stroke. Thinking she would die, Death came to claim her, but because It was punished, it had a cute teddybear instead of the scythe and trhey all had a good laugh).
The other one I'd rather not talk about - it was wierd!

Mine had a happy ending.
After fleeing the cops, the friends arrived in Cuba and they both had a good laugh.

Weird as in - 26 kids - one riding a motorbike, and one scene where they throw a guy in a well. Beside that, there's really nothing else going on (for about an hour - they just talk about what they'd like to do during their summer-brake).

So it differs from most of the weirdness by being weird in a different way.
But whatīs so bad in that...

A shame that itīs size is what it is.

my next movie is in english, and the voices are the same old gibberish.
But this time i've also got two friends, so there is a difference in tone (which was severely lacking in my previous movie)

Stroggy

Well my movies started out as a portrait of how stupod modern series are.

if you are quick enough you saw that the title of the series is 'shallow' written like 'friends' (with coloured dots between the letters)

But somewhere along the creation of episode 3 my mind wandered into some nasty twisted and dark corridors of my mind.

I still need to tackle obvious ethnic minorities, they are ever present in TV-series these days:

Hi i'm Will, i'm afro-american/asian/jew hear me how I make wisecracking jokes about my customs and beliefs for your entertainment
hahaha!

To get things back on topic...

What I liked about your movies, Stroggy, was that they were original and had power (never boring), power to get your attention and the power to make you think. I l liked the sound effects (voice-over) in the first film because it was effective and alerted you that something mental was about to follow. What I didn't like about the first film was I felt it didn't say anything more than an Itchy and Scratchy cartoon. Some might like shock value just for the sake of it. But I think if you're going to shock, why not give people something to think about as well. Then the film, or whatever, has more going for it, more to offer its audience. The second film did just that - I thought, anyway. I saw it as an interesting twist on the superficial perceptions a few females might have. Instead, you have the guy saying the words and often adding, 'But I'm not gay', which is funny and off-beat at the same time. The third film, cafe au lait , was similar to the second with the guy displaying gay tendencies but dening them at the same time.

You've asked about more details...well, your style is a minimalist one, and I like this because it suits the hard-hitting, no-nonsense dialogue and plot of the films. I think the character artwork could be fine-tuned a little. If you branched into Flash, as you indicated you might be, the results would be awesome. Would be really interested in seeing what you could do with this program.

EDIT
Thought about the first film some more, and it IS funny that beside a 'no spitting' sign there's a decapitated guy. I didn't get this on the first viewing. Hard to tell that he was decapitated. If the head was missing and just a bloodied neck remained , then it'd be more obvious. With great sick humour like this there's no need for extra meaning which I mentioned earlier. *grin*
