Some people like to have real console/computer. :D
Using emulator makes most of games easy, as with most of them you can save anywhere. (A lot of times that's nice feature, as some games got bad save points)
Ok, if I have question about emulation, I'll ask you. LOL
Ioncannon
08-11-2004, 06:26 PM
emulation is ok, if you want to try a game and can't find/afford it, or don't have system (this is for old systems mind you). They most hasstle I find is Mac emulation. Finding a Mac BIOS ROM i hard.

Yes, amiga was made by Commodore!!!
Commodore made more than one computer although C64 and Amiga are best known.
They also made C128 - as far as I remember the first dual boot computer!
And I don't think Amiga is from Japanesee - I'd say it comes from Amigo - spanish for friend (I guess it would be a feminine friend - Amiga)!
Who speaks spanish?

Amiga = girlfriend in Spanish
I used to have (in Germany) Amiga 500+ with added hard disk controller and 1.5MB ram. It was awesome gaming machine.
Commodore made a lot of different computers, like Vic10, Vic20, Commodore C16, 64, 65, 128, Plus... and couple business machines (that's what they did originally).

I need to buy a new pc here are the reasons:
1. Too Slow
2. HDD is on the brink of death (got corrupted 4 times)
3. PSU is on brink of death (I get strange letters/colors con BIOS and XP startup screens
4. HDD to small (use up space in 1 day)
5. Can't run ne games (even with a new Radeon 966 it to crappy, runs Doom3 ok in VERY low settings)
6. Fans screwed up makeing the thing sound like a boeing 747

I put zork1 and 2 on it, and prince of persia. It was hard to find a game for it since it had 1mb ram. I put wolf3d on it and people would't work but play wolf3d LOL. he then ordered me to delete it  . Funny though since a quarter of the class is huddled around an old pc playing wolf

Why is it that so many people want a console? The controls are clumsy the graphics are oudated the moment the console hits the streets and to top it all of a PC is so much more versatile.
Is it that you (console owners in general) find it more convenient? Is it more of a group activity?
Rogue
09-11-2004, 05:56 PM
Generally when you play game on console, you are playing in comfort of living room, which is nice.
Another nice feature of console is that you don't care about comp ability issues, or is your console fast enough to play title, does it play in this version of windows, this service pack... Console made playing of the game simple turn on and play.
And I would not say that graphics are outdated, and don't know how did you get that impression.

I don't own any consoles that I really use (I have a PSone but I don't use it much) but when I'm at a party round a friend's house consoles are more ideal for playing as a group and is more convenient (no installing or anything, you can bring a game round a friend's hous and play it without having to install, also on that issue, you do not have to worry that a game will not work becuas eof RAM, processer etc.). For playing games in small groups and at parties consoles are ideal, they're also cheaper.

Maybe but I would not want to play any of them. Not on a console anyway. I like shopping for a new videocard (or what ever). It means I get a better experience from the games I own. The graphics are outdated as those on the PC keep improving and the ones on the consoles do not (at least the hardware cannot improve anymore).
I read about the new consoles (PS3, XBOX2) and the kind of hardware they are getting. It is not better then a mid to high range PC has now and that's before the consoles are even launched. The nicest things in there are the new generation DVD drives (blue ray, HD-DVD).
To each his own of course but I will never own a console myself.

How much costs a mid to high end PC?
Can you compare mid range PC's specs to the XBox, and then compare same game on both systems, you'll see that game works better on XBox, because it was much easier for programmer to concentrate on one system, not thinking abount if gamer will have NVidia or ATI video card.
At the time, PS had much lower specs of any computer but it had much nicer graphics and playability! (custom chip sets)
So, I would like to say that you can not compare these two things like that...

To be honest I'm a bit of a freak when it comes to building my own computers.
I try to get parts from all over and stick them together to get a new system going.
Just a few months ago I upgraded from a P4 1.6GHz to a P4 3.0 complete with new motherboard, DVD-burner etc. in the original 1.6 tower.
...only to spend more time adding stuff from the old 1.6 in a new tower, than I actually spent using the 3.0 one...
Can't get that feeling with a console, though I actually own a PS1.
Well, we all have our weak spots, I guess :D
The Niles
09-11-2004, 07:57 PM
Consoles do not run faster then PC because they have better chips it's because they run the games on a lower resolution and use smaller textures. A console only needs to show it's stuff on a TV and those are far worse then a PC monitor. If you want clear graphics you'll want a PC.
Sure a console is cheaper but part of that is because they give the hardware away. The games are a lot more expensive generally though and you get a lot more functionality from a PC then a console.

We all can have our opinions. ;)
I love 'em both. Using PC for strategy game and my console for RPG like FF and also fighting games like tekken4.
Also most of the games I am interested in are for PS2 (GTA, FFX, Tekken4, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider...) so that's the only reason that I don't have GC or XBox, but looking at getting those later (one of these combo packs) just to play metroid and couple other games.
All new releases for PS2 are bellow $50, while Doom3 sells for $55  So price of computer games is not that better... (in my opinion, both are a bit overpriced)
