Look, when you run the patch, it says to edit the av.cfg, which is found where you unzipped the game. The patch also tell you to give "the WHOLE path", nothing more and nothing less. THING IS: When you run dos-box, the "root directory" is NOT actually C:\, but rather [drive of your choise]:\[whatever path you choose for your dos-box games folder] DISGUISED as C:\. Dos-box will then treat that path/folder as the "real" root directory.

What I did: I unzipped into C:\Dosbox\CDrive\AVirus, having C:\Dosbox\CDrive as the "root dir", edited av.cfg to "SourcePath = ..\AVirus" and ran the patch. Works like a charm.

Now, for your screaming and shouting: Don't. It will only p*** people off, and that's the last thing you want if you want help. OK?

ok, fine. im sorry for raising my cyber-voice. but there is NOTHING labeled av.cfg in the game folder, or anywhere for that matter

Look in the UN-unzipped archive again, and have a look.

If you don't have the av.cfg (1kb) in your zip file, then there's a huge chance your download is corrupt. Try dl again, unzip and sort the files by file type. Look for the CFG files in the folder. It should be there.

i downloaded it again, and arranged by file type, and theres still no av.cfg. im pissed :angry:

Try this: Open Notepad and type:

SourcePath = ..\[the name of your unzipped AV folder]
InstallationType = 1

Save as av.cfg in the game folder

giganto

Could you show me your av.cfg file please, as well as telling me the exact paths of your AV folder AND the fake root dir?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Mighty Midget @ Sep 26 2006, 03:05 AM) 257415</div>

SourcePath = ..\Alien Virus
InstallationType = 1

[/b]

thats what i typed, like you told me to. what are you talking about with the fake root directory?
the game folder path is C:\Dosbox\CDrive\Alien Virus\

Try shorten the game folder's name. Dos really don't like long file/folder names. And try to avoid spaces in the name. Keep it simple.

Btw: The "fake root directory" is nothing more than the folder you specified in your dosbox conf. when mounting the C drive, and the folder in which dosbox will look first. And by the look of it, I'd say it's C:\Dosbox\CDrive\ :)

When you run dos-box, the "root directory" is NOT actually C:\, but rather [drive of your choise]:\[whatever path you choose for your dos-box games folder] DISGUISED as C:\. Dos-box will then treat that path/folder as the "real" root directory.[/b]

Exactly what did you do with the patch file?

Last idea: Try naming the av.cfg in CAPITALS.

YEEESSSSSSS!!!!! :brain: HAAAAAA HAAAAAAA!!!!!!!! :bleh: take that abandonware game satan!
by the way, i got it to work by capitalizing the notepad file. i love you mighty midget. but only as an idol. thanks dude. i owe you one, or two, or so.

No problem, mate. So, to wrap this one up:

If you miss the AV.CFG in your game folder:

*Open Notepad
*Type:
SourcePath = ..\[name of game folder] (not the whole path, just that one folder)
InstallationType = 1
*save as AV.CFG (be sure to capitalize the letters) in the game folder

First: Scummvm is pretty much an all LucasArt thing, so Alien Virus is not supported.

Now: Did you have sound at all at any stage? Try different settings in Soundsetup, most notably the IRQ setting.

Er, that was me. Forgot to log in. *Goes off to smash his head against a brick*

yes, i did have the music and sound effects. but not the voices. if i change the irqs and channels and stuff (all 3 options of soundblasters work) i dont get any audio at all.
