Just a tip - you can download the CD version of this game with full speech from the ScummVM website.

Click here for Scumm goodness (http://scummvm.sourceforge.net/)

You have to use the ScummVM interpreter to get it to work, though.

some trivia for this game..
before the amiga port was released, the magazing (amiga power) that reviewed it discovered a fatal bug in the play of the game, that had got through bug testing. bear in mind this was in the days before many people had the internet for patches

This is my first time posting, so I hope I'm diong it right.

Does anyone know how to save a game> I played Flight of the Amazon Queen for 2 hours, then I couldn't find where to save my game.

When I went to play it another day, I had to start from the beginning. Am I being stupid? :wall:

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated! :ok:

In your inventory you have the jurnal. Use it. You'll se some options on the right side. Make an entry saves the game. I think you'll figure it out for your self now :ok:

BTW - please, next time don't change the color - black is just fine.

Thanks so much for the promp help!

Sorry about the color change...I just like purple.

Sebatianos

Well purple is still OK, because you can read it normally, but we prefer everything in black, colors are for special occasions. Just make sure you don't write in yellow - it's really hard to read: Here's an example.

I bought this for Amiga in a time where adventures were scarce and I was starved for new material. It turned out to be a waste of money though, definitely not in the same league as classic Lucas Arts adventures.

Yeah this is a great game, and I was so glad when scummvm were allowed to host the talkie version, I thought it was decent enough voices, and a fun adventure game, quite long too.

It's still hard to believe they gave away the full talkie version away for free.. pretty cool though :)

DeathDude
06-04-2005, 03:00 PM
Yeah I know what you mean, I think they managed to get an agreement with Revolution the company that made the game to do it like that, so that's how it all came about, that's also how they were also able to distribute the cut scenes movies, although in mpeg format for the broken sword series.

Spoonman
07-04-2005, 07:20 PM
Revolution won't even bother to mention the game on their homepage anymore (http://www.revgames.com/).. unlike Beneath a Steel Sky

DeathDude
07-04-2005, 07:27 PM
That's odd, wasn't there also supposed to be a sequel to the game? I could've sworn I heard somewhere that they had one planned...

Spoonman
08-04-2005, 09:19 AM
Some walkthroughs have mentioned it, I don't know if there are any hints in the game itself (I still haven't completed it yet, just I stopped playing at some point at the time). I guess that if there's ever going to be one it won't be done by Revolution.

"Flight of the Amazon Queen" is just perfect! It's as good as a classic LucasArts game, in my opinion.

I remember the first time I played it was the demo (just the hotel part). Then, after years looking for the game, I finally found it. That was a really happy day! :D

I really liked the game, though I have to say that, too much interaction with the objects, like "move" thing caused me to get lost sometimes. I found the safe in the underground base "accidentally"... Though I wasn't so lucky to find the secret passage behind the long gone Prince... So I used the walkthrough. I also used the walkthrough to learn that using the machinery had effects in another room.Though you're not aware of it.Why should I think that lifting up the stone, would lower the stone in the other room? A clue would be nice...Though I think this game deserves a 5. As it didn't dissapoint me.

Sebatianos
29-05-2005, 05:05 PM
Well isn't the fact that you can move a stone which appearently does nothing a big enough clue?
You just have to get used to a certain way of thinking while playing these games. Most actions you make are quite complex and you won't understand the final resoult of it until much later.
That's why these games actually increase the IQ! It's sometimes illogical, but then again it does wonders for the creative thought. There's a great article about this somewhere on the boards.
I'm glad you liked the game, you should try some other similar stuff! :ok:

This is a goood game, think lucasarts style but free!! The only problem is that it ends and you have to find another game as good.

Oh, I only just noticed that I actually know the answer to this one: you need to have found the money hidden behind the cushions at Floda. If you forgot to get it before taking the lift down to the secret passage, that's not a problem; you can just go back and pick it up later in the game.

Hi Kiran

When you see the journal screen, there should be options down the left side. One of them should be something like 'Make Journal Entry'. Click on that, then you should be able to type in a title for your saved game.

If you're still having problems with DosBox, try playing it through SCUMM.

Im sorry pals! But I have to say I dont like this game much. Its because
it lacks originality. I has many things that reminds me of monkey island series. And
I dont like the storyline of the game. The connections between the adventures dont seem fluent and realistic. After all you rescue the queen and this bookworm guy appears and the story has a chance to go on... And I also dont like the characters talking sooo slowly that makes me sleep. After playing a game like Discworld the conversations are boring.

I agree that the voice acting isn't exactly brilliant. Actually I switched off my speakers after the intro. But unrealistic connections between the puzzles? Obviously the entire game is highly unrealistic, but then again, so are Monkey Island and Discworld, so you can hardly regard that as a negative point in itself...

Check what folder on your computer the saved game is in. The game might not save in the same folder that SCUMM upens as default.

You should try the recently released Jack Keane.

Otherwise, Flight of the Amazon Queen was heavily inspired by Monkey Island. Also, try Touché - they all have a similar kind of comedy.

Well so do Simon the Sorcerer, Zac McCracken,... what can I say, it's a typical non-Sierra adventure with lots of comedy!

I played through that game and didn't have any save game problems. I notice that I have a file called QUEEN.SAV where all of my saved game files were kept. See if you have one, and if not try creating one.

Use SCUMM. It's better for old adventure games like this.

And it's easier to use - just press F5 to save. :)

Monkey Island meets Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis! A fun game in the mold of Lucas Art's Scumm games. (BTW, Ron Gilbert, who did Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion along with George Lucas are mentioned in the Special Thanks section in the game's end credits.)

The link to AR redirects to the official site, which only offers a queen.1 file. :wall: Apparently the file is used by ScummVM, which is thus required to run the game. But the review page here on Abandonia claims that it can ve run on DOSBox! :whistling:

Is there any way I can get the original, unmodified floppy files? :( I don't want to install more than one emulator for DOS games, and dislike ScummVM (for example, it uses its own annoying GUI instead of the games' own).

even though you find scummvm "annoying", because of GUI? it does a much better job with emulating the games that it can emulate than dosbox

Well, the people at AR did something, which unfortunately was just another mirror for the files without executables. But nevermind, I did some Googling (why didn't I do this earlier? :tomato:) and found what I wanted.

even though you find scummvm "annoying", because of GUI? it does a much better job with emulating the games that it can emulate than dosbox

It's not very faithful to how the games were supposed to run... in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, you can save/load when you are not supposed to, and ScummVM's GUI won't show the IQ points. Plus, the GUI is a big "YOU ARE PLAYING THIS THROUGH SCUMMVM" self-reference. And the original GUIs enhance the retro atmosphere. :)

It is a great game.

And I recommend using ScummVM's emulator to run it.
