I dont plan on downloading the game. I found it for download several months ago, but wasnt so impressed. The original plays far better, the sequel seems to have lost something. A pretty empty gaming experience imo.
Still worth trying though, just for the exp.

Concerning sound and music in Cannon Fodder 2... both are present here, but you must run it under DOSBox (0.63 is optimal) and type some tricky command inside it, then you will hear them both.
1) Run DOSBox and configure your desired sound card output
2) Before running the game exe type this command "loadfix -1"
3) Enjoy music and sound
Thanks you VOGONS, I found this tip there ;)

Tell you what, if you loved CF1 and want to keep good memories, don't download CF2.
You have been warned. ;-)
Dont Play CF2 ITS A NIGHTMARE FOR FANS

'Twas me first game i bought for my PC and i had all sorts of trouble with it. After i made superhuman efforts to get it to run it ran about half way and then got screwed up. I think i fixed that later but it turns out the game was made not to work ;).

Ok, I don't know why so many people are having problems - I opened it under WinXP just fine - negligible frame rate skips and the sound is playing beautifully.
As for the question from above - how to throw grenades:
- I knew this from owning the original (waaaay back when) and the manual would help for people who don't think to experiment..... use BOTH mouse buttons at the same time... it also works for Bazookas - just click the rocket icon next to the Squad ID
(geez, I do it accidently often enough - trying to change tactics half-way through an attack often results in throwing a greande and then chasing it.... OUCH! )
- Also to note, those who don't know about explosives may also not have known you can seperate your men... click on them, when the two coloured squad icon comes up - click it to form a second squad (the original allowed three squads max, haven't tried it in Number 2 yet).... Any squad that is not selected will automatically shoot at any enemies in range, sometimes they will throw grenades too, so be careful where you put them.

Also when you have split up squad members, if you want them to regroup just move to the leader of the squad you want the soldier to join.
Also squads who are not currently selected will use machineguns to fire on any enemy in range which is useful when you want to only send in one soldier and can have some other soldiers covering him.
However squads will not run away from grenades or rockets so make sure there in a safe position.

So can anyone actually suggest how to make it work if it isn't working? The window opens to a black screen for me and that's as far as it gets

how come dosbox takes up so much resource
It simulates the functions of an entire x86 class computer - complete with graphics card and soundcard - and that's what requires so much power.
If your machine has trouble running it smoothly, then maybe you would be better off using Abandonia Bootdisk to run your computer in DOS?

Maybe you have to do some adjustments before using DosBox?! To see the intention to write in bold letters... Isn' t too good to see... <_<

Well, you're not supposed to. ^_^
But there are tutorials all around that explain setting up DosBox thoroughly. You'll get it done! :ok:
Look at the DosBox Wiki (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?begaming_website_session=e50e6ae60fe0cbd 4e0062be4fd9000bd)

Ah yes, cannon fodder 2!
the original was a real beeeatch to get working (took me an entire week in the early 90's to det the damn thing to the title screen)
As I recall, it has RIDICULOUS (for the time) memory requirements...
Tips (as I remember it from the days of DOS 5).
Give it as much conventional and EMS memory as possible (yes EMS nor XMS - that's Extended, not eXpanded memory)
up the "Files=x" to at least 25
If you are doing this in an oldschool DOS bootdisk, remember to add the following line into the config.sys file)
DOS=HIGH,UMB
This line will load as much of DOS into Higher memory (640KB - 1MB) as possible, maximising free conventional memory.
I think this game taught me enough about computers that I ended up supporting them for a living...
Hope this helps people - at least it will give you a place to start tweaking settings.

Unfortunately or fortunately (depending on point of view) this is now sold on GOG.
I guess they'll also make a CF bundle soon.
