Here's a question for all the abandone souls:
Who was your favorite villain in the old computer games?
I give my vote to Shao Kahn (Mortal Kombat 2 and more)!

They're both from consoles, but Kefka from Final Fantasy VI and Albert Wesker from Resident Evil tie for 'coolest evil guy ever' in my book.

Well, for me it was Belial from Land of Lore 2. After all, not many "bad guys" you have to beat are gods too. :D
Also I like that Lava endguy from Quake 1 from the first episode, don't recall his name exactly now, Kthnon or like. He was impressive one. Though to be honest, I awaited more from the "fabled" Shub-Niggurath at the very end than what "she" was... <_<

Mortimer McMire from "Keen must Die"!
Indeed, Belial was one of the greatest villains ever in RPG history (according to RPGs i know) followed by the Sleeper from Gothic.

Purple tentacle, man, that was evil itself.
LeChuk was realy something, how could I say, unusual. You barely can see Ancient Gods from Shadow of the Comet but all the time they give you spooky feeling.
On arcade machines the question of bad guy No.1 was without competition. When I first saw Golden Axe, it was like little boy listening to the old stories about great battles and heros. Death=Adder (and = isn't mistake) is probably greatest bad guy. The law of the stronger one.
Arcade machines.... Remember two hands and two feets moving on you? Only way to fight them is to shoot the heart. Toki is also one of my favs. Can't remember name of the hand. Or feets?
Then we go back more to the past. To the time of C64. All those games. Barbarian (that wizard on the end), Ghostbusters (how can you forget the big Manchmallow Man), Flimbo's Quest (big bug, yak!), Creatures, Ye-Ar-Kung-Fu...
I guess I bored you enough :tomato:

my favorite villain, who also happens to be a player character, is Kain from the Legacy of Kain series (in some games you play him, in others you fight against him with Raziel) He has the most memorable quotes ever, and is also perfectly voiced by Simon Templeman. just read this dialogue:
Kain:
We meet again, Umah.
Umah: (breathlessly)
Kain...
Kain:
Yes. Kain.
I thought you were to bring the Sarafan Lord to his knees.
Umah:
I thought...
Umah collapses to the ground.
Kain:
I know.
Kain drops to one knee beside her as she speaks.
Umah:
It seems... I was wrong. I could not carry the fight... alone.
Kain:
You were brave to try.
Umah:
Kain... I'm dying.
Kain:
Yes. You are.
Umah:
I need your blood. Please. You can save me.
Kain bends forward and takes the Nexus Stone back.
Kain:
I know.
Tell me, child. Do you see me ruling Nosgoth?
Umah:
Yes, yes. I see it now.
Kain:
And do you believe that Nosgoth rightly belongs to me?
Umah: (desperately)
I do - I believe it, Kain. Please!
Kain:
... Then you may die, knowing the truth.
Kain strikes Umah with his claws.
Umah: (dying)
No!
Kain:
You should never have betrayed me.
You could have been my queen.
Umah: (dying)
Kain...
Umah dies.
Kain: (quietly)
Now you have left me alone...
WOW! :kosta:

Well, there's one really impressive looking villain in Gothic 1. The Sleeper. It's a powerful demon that was summoned by the ork shamans once and was after imprisoned by them in a underearth temple. He's very impressive looking one and there's great story behind him. The only bad thing is that he cannot do anything - move, attack, jump and so on. He just puts anyone to sleep who cames near him. <_<

well, I just made it through Paper Mario 2. and I gotta say that Grodus and the Queen of Shadows have to be the weirdest, and most evil villains I have ever seen. Ganondorf , Nemesis from Resident Evil, and such baddies don't even come close to being that good at being a bad guy. :D

On the topic of lechuck, its interesting that Guy Brush was named such because of the graphics program they used which saved things with the extension .brush, when the designer couldn't think of a name he saved him as Guy, hence GuyBrush!
A legend is born! I also agree that lechuck was slightly off in M2 - but his army made up for it!!

Belial was pretty cool. Although he seemed to me like more of an annoying little troublemaker than a huge villian (At the time, I couldn't help thinking that he was based on Loki from the Viking Myths)
Irenicus is an interesting villain. I've only hd the time to get to the second chapter in BG2 (I work, sleep and go out as well as play the many games on my computer) but I already find him intriguing.
But my most favourite villain of all (apart from Megatron - whom is not strictly a computer-game villain {along those lines, however, Cyclonus was better}), and I may sound like an idiot for saying this would have to be Makala from Betrayal at Krondor. I spent my most cherished gaming hours spoiling his schemes.

My favourite _ well, least disliked _ villain was in Zork Nemesis. That was the character of General Kain...who was supposed to personify the element of earth...along with three other characters who each represented one of the elements. I sort of liked him because most of the way through the game you don't know he and his fellow 'elements' are the bad guys (oops, spoiler...sorry) and he's portrayed more as a dashing romantic leader. Well, ok, he's also domineering, brutal and a womaniser. I liked his son a lot more.

Kefka, the guy was one of the best villians in Final Fantasy history, much better than Sephrioth imo, he was developed differently than the cliche of villians at the time, he was pure evil, he got the job done by taking over the world, and he ruled the world, something that can be admired.

Kreia from Star Wars KOTOR II. She may not be exactly a ''villain'' but she really tickles your sanity after playing with her for a while.
Also, LeChuck of course! And Kain from the LoK series, and Irenicus from BG2.
I would have to say that mine is a tie.
My first favorite is Fortune from MGS2. I mean... dang. I absolutely love big guns. Not to mention her whole personality was just so well done...
My second fave is that thousand foot tall four armed alien/demon thing at the end of Serious Sam. The thing is just so stinking over the top!
Serious Sam: "Daaaang! Yer a big 'un, arent ya?"
Thousand Foot Endgame Boss: "ROOOOOAAAAR!" *stomp stomp stomp*
Haha, Serious Sam has the most memorable phrases, seconded only by the king of over-the-top action games himself, Duke Nukem.

I'd have to say that Domino was one of the most entertaining villians that I've had the pleasure of seeing, good stuff, and the voicework was perfect for him imo.
Totally agree, I seriously loved hating that guy!
I kindda liked when you got the oportunity to say "I wanna punch you in the mouth to him", not that it got you anywhere at all

I know the way domino was written into the story, the style of his voice, his cockiness, everything about him, made him a very enjoyable villian to face, it was always funny to try and funny him at the sub and here him spew insults, even though manny can't beat him, good times.

Jon Irenicus from Baldur's Gate II was a great villain, mainly due to David Warner's vocal performance, he has a great voice.
"You've released all of my test subjects? How wonderfully mad of you."
My favorite too :D
Maybe i should start playing it again...

Well I can't specify my favourite villian, it's a little bit like a mother choosing a favourite child for me. So I'll name the 3 that stand above the rest for me.
Domino (Grim Fandango) - The Perfect bad guy. The Guy you know you just are not going to like as soon as you meet him.
Murray (Monkey Island) - The Funniest bad guy ever. Nothing more needs to be said.
Lastly, the thief that joins your party in Baldur's Gate 2 and then later on betrays you - Oh boy ... I did not see that one coming (He was holding some good items of mine). I was completely shocked when that happend. I even started cursing at the screen.

I can't remember his name, but its the guy (a thief) that betrays you when you meet the main bad buy Jon Irenicus (spelling?) and if I recall correctly, you get ambushed at that point by his buddies.

Rene Rottinham: a french man insulting you, i've heard of this before...
(whoever gets the reference gets a free holy hand grenade)
i'd say murrey like Charmed, but i don't think of murrey as a bad guy. more like a wannabee bad guy, just like guybrush is a wanabee pirate.
Chaos, from Loom so evil, its just...evil
The bishop, from loom, just let me get my hands on that dogmatic monkey fart!! :ranting:

Weapon,Ultimate Weapon, Sephiroth (maybe cause my favourite weapons a katana), Diablo also Cyber Demons on Doom there more of an enemy though
my vote goes to Weapon though, he has a sick image
Spoonman
12-05-2005, 07:33 PM
I think Lechuck is the big winner here, and I can only agree with that :D
Furthermore I liked the archvile of Doom 2 a lot (it really scared the hell out of me the first time he blew me away), as well as that skeleton thingy with the rockets on his shoulders.. but these are more monsters, not really villains
Santa Clause
14-05-2005, 05:18 PM
Is there a game with Grinch as the villain? I know he'd get my vote, along with a lump of coal.
:bye:
I like Kain
I like Raziel (He's only half - good, cause he kills humans, not only vampires)
I like Caleb (From Blood) Here comes his quite fun speech:

-"You've just made your second mistake - you've stuck around."
-"Oh really? What was my first mistake?"
-"Letting me live."

They're just cool. And you can control them!

Oh, and Frank Hoorigan is baaad too.
:butcher:
The evil meteor from Maniac Mansion :o he could destroy the world.
