Which special game effect stumbled your senses when you first saw it ?

One of my favorites is:
The colour changes in ATRAIN.
The colour will change from day to night and vary from season to season.

I've recorded a sample of what I mean. (day and night changes)
ATRAIN - The movie(HQ) (http://www.abandonia.com/~data/at.avi)

I get an error for the video it tries to get a codec but fails. Help says I don't have a codec. I figured that out. Stupid Windows.

Hey data, since you like A-Train, you know it's topping the list of games to be reviewed (http://www.abandonia.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1658)?

Battlefield 2's disorientation effect.
F.E.A.R. 's slowmo power.
Far Cry's white lighting.
Oblivion's bump mapping.
Half-Life 2's rag doll physics.

So many that I found that blew me away, too many to list :D

Sanity effects from Eternal Darkness. The bathtub scene* just hits you so quickly.
And Pretty much all ragdoll physics... Especially from Destroy All Humans! :sneaky:

*If you are playing Eternal Darkness and are scared easily, do not, I repeat DO NOT go near the bathtub. You have been warned.

Playing my first modern 3D game, Incoming. Good shooter with amazing good graphics (for the time) and extremely fluid animation.

Lawl, that scared me so bad blood came running out of my nose, I just saw the A button prompt at the bottom of the screen, pressed it, and BAM, I flew into the air.
It was in the middle of the night with all the lights off too, and I have surround sound in my room so I was about ready to throw up.

Now that sounds interesting. I saw it for 30 or 40 bucks pre-owned. What's it like on length?

Hmm, I don't think it would surprise me that much. I mean. A bathtub in a horror adventure. There HAS to be something in there.

I hate bathrooms in horror games. Either it's the bathtub or it's the mirror.
The mirror got me in Doom 3. It wasn't scary or something but I really wasn't expecting that.

Now for the topic ;)

I liked the movie TRON. It's basically one big special effect. And the actors seem to blend really well into the surroundings.

As for games I liked the "vision" of the character in Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, although it was more of a neat feature than a special effect.

But I've never seen a special effect so far that really made me go all "wow".

JEDI KNIGHT when you use force speed everything arround you actualy slows down.

not to mention the battle with swords!!! i used a cheat and spawned a few enemies just to enjoy sword fighting with them.

While I wasn`t the one playing the game, (Yeah, I know, but i just don`t enjoy playing games like this) my sister says it lasted for about 10 hours. She played a long time ago though, so she may be wrong. Or not. You could always check some websites about it.

True, but it just comes so quickly, as Blood-Pigggy said.
I agree about the windows. Scared me in Fahrenheit. But not that much.
