A few days ago, I had the fortune of opening up a long jammed drawer only to find two lost and classic games from my youth, those games being TIE Fighter and X-WING, the original games that kickstarted the Star Wars flight simulator genre that is still popular even today with Galaxies being released.

Anyone else treasure these gems? Truly great games.

They are truly great games. Lucasarts has republished them for Windows in 1998, if I remember right, and the best is that they used an improved version of the engine of XvT.

I only bought it recently for about 12 Euros, so it's still around and is not too expensive. And by the way it contains XW with both expansions, TIE with it's expansion and the bonus collector's missions first published with both collectors editions.

I have both the origional games and the Windows remakes. Very nice but in my opinion Wing Commander III and IV are better.

Only tried one of them a few years ago(I think it was WCIV), but the graphics were really bad.

The minimal quality for space sim graphics is somewhere near XvsT for me.

Completely off the topic. Sorry.

I played starwars battleground for quite some time yesterday at my brothers house on his x box. And I must say it is the best star wars game I have ever played. And probably one of the best games I have ever played. Ten times better than any battlefield games.

I was thinking about getting Battlefront... I played a demo and it looked pretty promising.

Graphics are nice but gameplay and story are more important in my opinion. Gameplay is what TIE Fighter had, story belongs to WC. That said TIE Fighter did not have any textures (well barely) so it looked slightly better then the overcrowded textures that WC used but all in all I think WC III and IV were better technology wise then TIE Fighter.

Is it Battlefront. Oh well names not important. And I would highly recomend buying it. Especially if you liked Battlefield 1942 and so on for PC.

They are hard to find. Chips and Bits does not have them and I think Lucasarts is sold out. Ebay would be a good place to start looking for them.

Every now and then the X-Wing Collector's Series shows up on E-Bay. It has X-Wing, TIE Fighter & a demo of XvT all done for Windows. I have seen it in the Bargain Bins at some software stores for cheap, but it usually is priced around $19 US on E-Bay.

Here in Hungary some shops have them new for 3990 HUF (16 Euros). In one of them I think it could be arranged to send to nearby or EU countries.

Here is the link, just scroll down.

I'll never forget destroying an Imperial Frigate with just my single X-wing in, I think, the second mission of the first tour of duty in X-Wing. Took me what seemed like an hour to wear it down with my blasters.

My favorite was Tie Fighter though. The Empire always had better fashion sense, and the Secret Order Tattoos were just plain cool.

Give me mindless hack-and-slash a la Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy any day! I would have like to play KotOR 1 & 2 but too bad my PC is not good enough to play them. I am waiting for Episode III game before I upgrade the machine http://www.spcnet.tv/forums/images/smilies/starwars.gif

This may also be off-topic but can anyone tell me how to get music working in Tie Fighter CD-Rom Edition ?
Cause neither Dosbox nor VDM works for me...
