I own the CD version of this game, and I'll certainly say it deserves to be here. However, it's rather boring to play now, but when I was younger, nothing could've been better than trapping and killing red ants in experiment mode.

haha, I remember always taking control of the spider first thing and moving him to the red ant nest just to severely hinder their start. Evil but useful.
:D Man, I didn't play this one till it made it to the SNES. You guys keep up the good work getting these awesome games on here. I mean great job!!! :ok: :ok:

Along with SimFarm, this is the second game I ever really owned. They don't make game like this anymore! (Well, they try, but they usually suck). LOL
I downloaded this Sim Ant and aside form not being able to read the menus, it always freezes up on me. I tried using that DosBox things, but I try and do the cd Sim Ant and it tells me it can't change the directory or something.. Am I doing something wrong or am I missing something?

When ever I try to install it, it asks for the disk drive. I copied the files onto a disk and it still doesn't work.

Great game, is still fun.
Only thing i find negative was that the computer cheats (or it felt like that to me)
They are always ahead of you, like the old C&C-games where the CPU usually build up his base and produces units while you still try to get the "Economy" running.........would be nice if CPU's would be fairer sometimes
<--- knows he's a cry-baby sometimes, so don't yell at me
But the campaign mode was AWESOME. (The last two bits of lawn and the house where pretty hard, though)

Hilarious game. Might be a bit tricky for most people at first.
The way to go is : Wipe out any enemy colonies next to you (if any).
Do this by increasing the number of soldiers relative to the other kinds. Breed breed breed, get a small army together and attack their nest. Your goal is to kill their queen. Don't fight it out, (you'll probably lose) get their queen instead. Then kill the rest of them.
As soon as you're safe. increase the number of flying ants to a high ratio and spread spread spread. Try to enclose the red menace. Once your colonies are in contact with the red zones increase your soldier ratio again. While you fight red to a standstill, wipingout the occasional colony, your ants will spread all over the rest of the map without opposition. Oh yeah, never let your worker ratio go lower as 40% and right at the start turn it up as high as 80% for rapid growth.
beware of the landmower :ok:

Should I run it with dosbox? You could try. Sometimes it's better to run a game in DosBox even if it works on windows (or whatever os you're using) :)

not true. i dl the game form the net and it works perfect! although i dont remember which site, google does wonders!
used to play this game a lot when i was younger. i remember it was a real fun game to play. but when i play it now, it isn't that fun anymore... kinda boring exually. the game is way to easy.
i directed my ant over a food patch and pressed "2" for severall times, wait for my ants to arrive, then press "4" to release and they'll bring all the food back. doing this a few times will starve the red queen very quickly. dont even need to attack the nest.
even if i dont use this tactic, and only put my yellow ant to use to bring those little green dots back to my nest (without recruiting any ants) i will put down a scent for my ants and they'll get the food. this way the reds have a more fair game (more fun 4 me).
the thing that bores me is that the only thing you can do is get food or attack/ expand. no other aspects are available.
the biggest downside about the game is that when you move to another area where a black nest is located and then go back to you first area. everything looks different. your nest is in another place and the map looks differents 2. if you first killed the red queen, then go away and then come back, the queen is alive again if you left some red ants alive.
just too bad, i've been searching this game for a year, now i finally got it and it's just not what is supposed to be.
NOT the best sim game ever, although i like the originallity. (?)

Sim Ant is quite a decent game, however it can get a little boring sometimes...but I guess thatīs a natural thing as this is a sim game...
This is Bullshit. :tai: I had that game on hold for 37 weeks. There are no down loads for Mac.
I've played it before, it Rocks. I always kill the other player. ^_^
But now that I can't play it anymore, I'm really pissed off. :wallbash:

This game is still sold.
Therefore we cannot:
1. put it up for download on Abandonia
2. provide you with links to any source of download
3. send you the archive through e-mail or any messenger programs
So please don't ask for it. If you want it... buy it.

I absolutely adore this game. Theres actually a version of this for the Nintendo system that includes information about ants and their cousins. Not quite sure if the computer version has that... Regardless, the first time I played this game I fell in love with it, and I still do love it! Great game, without a doubt earning a 5/5.

I got it, but i'm having a problem.
I played the tutorial, and it told me how to pick up food, but double clicking it when you have most of your health, right?
Well, when I played the full game, it wouldn't let me pick it up. It just sat there until my health got low, then ate it, no matter how many times I clicked it.

From memory, you have two types of ants: workers and warriors.
Warriors just run around and fight. Workers are those who do all the job.
What you basically need to do is select an ant, go where there is food, pick some (I think) then go back to the colony. Doing so imprint your "scent" and you now have a trail from your colony to the food. The other workers should then go there by themselves and harvest.

ahhh, thx.
i think in the beginning, i'm alone. am I the queen? 'cause i have to breed, or? thats why i cant pick up food, i guess.

You are a queen in the start, yes.

You are a queen in the start, yes.
hmm, after breeding, the queen dies directly. And the game's over.
i think i need food but as a queen i can't pick up food.

If I remember well, you can pick up food no matter what kind of ant you are, worker or soldier.
Now I didnīt remember if being that ant with a pair of wings you can collect food (I never used them to go around), but for the other two, yes, you ALWAYS can pick food with a soldier or a worker, at least in the MS-Dos version that I have from years ago.
And itīs better to catch food with a soldier in case of a fortuite encounter againts a red ant. The workers use to die more often than the soldiers against red ants, the giant spider only can be killed...ummm...no spoilers!.

i hate to be the buzz killington here but most to all SIM related games are now owned by EA, and they still hold the Copyright to them :(....sucks because it seems the only place to get SimAnt is off eBay or amazon for like 18$ new
Abandonware isn't an actual legal term. In fact, SimAnt is still owned by EA and it is not legal to download it. I've seen sites get taken down for hosting SimAnt and other EA games... not that it stops much of anyone from doing it, but it's worth noting that it is not a legally free downloadable game yet.

Quote from the Lazy Game Reviewer (aka largest Maxis fan ive ever seen)
First, there is no "universal rule" on whats abandonware and whats not. Abandonia has its own quite strict rules and SimAnt and some other Sim-games check through it. Download was removed around 06 after the site staff was contacted by ESA (Not EA, who is a member though. And yes, we do know who owns copyrights and these kind of things) on behalf of their members, but it was applied again 3 years later, and this time ESA protection was part of the rules as well as couple of others that are related to online sites selling copies. Bottom line: Mr Lazy Game Reviewer doesn't decide whats Abandonware, at least not here.
Second, its actually about 2-3€ on Amazon. Bit more on Ebay, but that was a complete boxed copy. I got mine for 5€ and that was at a local supermarket.
Third, we know what were doing here, on both rules and abandonware in general. No reason to point out obvious things like its illegal, or what others say or think about it. Yes its illegal (more like it falls in "no one cares" gray area), but there is honor among thieves and we have better policy on these things than any given warez site.

We can't "make" a new version of this game. Abandonia is not this game's developer. However... read on. :)
But that is not actually a problem - there's a way to run this game on your system with no need for such a version.
The answer, my friend, is DOSBox (http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=14406).
The way this works is:
* DOSBox runs on your system
* The game runs in DOSBox
* DOSBox itself is compatible with your OS, while the game only has to be compatible with DOSBox
There you have it, an unmodified copy of SimAnt working on a modern system through the miracle of emulation.
