Dear Abandonia visitors: We are a small team that runs one of the largest DOS Games websites in the world. We have only 3 members of staff, but serve 450,000 users and have outgoing costs like any other top site for example: our servers, power, rent, programs, and staff. Abandonia is something special. It is a library of old games for you to download. It is like an old gaming arcade with all the old games in their original format. Abandonia is a place where you can find great old games and have fun four hours and years. To protect our independence, we are dependent of our friends using the site. We run on donations averaging around 6 USD (5 Euro). If everyone reading this gave the price of a cup of coffee, our fundraiser would be made easier. If Abandonia is useful to you, take one minute to keep it online for another year. Please help us forget fundraising and get back to Abandonia.

When Abandonia was founded it was to collect and present all old games where the copyright protection had been abandoned, hence the term ’abandonware’ and the site name We are still doing our best to keep the site open and free and will appreciate your support to help it stay that way.

‐ Thank you from the Abandonia Team

We are trying to make it easy for people in every country to donate. Please let us know how we could make it easier for you.

Please give whatever you can to help us.

I vividly recall my first memories of SuperSpeed. Back in those days we were preoccupied with writing demos and small games, but when this game came into our possession, we were just entering our last week of exams. As I had some time to spare that particular afternoon, I quickly fired up my 386, installed the game and prepared for a short gaming session. Five hours later, curses were flying, Gods were called upon, and I still had to start studying. Never underestimate the power of a small game.

Looking back at it now and giving it another hour of gameplay in DosBox, I can still see what got my initial attention, although the graphics are nothing special. They now look rather mediocre, but they serve their purpose well. Music is also nothing special to write home about: some fumbled blips and beeps, some basic sound effects here and there and that about sums it up.

But moving on to the real nitty gritty, we stumble upon its excellent gameplay, the cute little cars, the variation of tracks or perhaps the difficulty of the game (or better - the lack thereof), after some time, it sucks you right in and makes you race on. And did I mention that your opponents seem to have just received their driving licenses and that there are just two kinds of powerups? Oh well, you can't have it all. Despite these things, the game deserves a 4 on my personal list, even if just for that lost afternoon.

For all those interested in the controls:

left shift starts player 1 / throttle
z left turn
x right turn

Highly underestimated, not well known by the larger public but certainly worth giving it a shot. I bet you won't reget it. Just make sure you have nothing special to prepare for that day.
