2D, cartoonish characters, giant fruit and lots of random stuff. What else would a caveman want? I'll tell you: a giant bowl to cook it all in.

As you start the game, some flashing text jumps around in front of you. Kind of interesting. It tells you that the game was programmed in 1992 on a .286 with 12 MHz, and it's still working. And it's true. A fox-head company logo shows up... and you don't dare to ask why.

You try to find some sense in it, but you have to admit that it's pointless. This is Prehistorik 2, where all you need is right at your disposal - a big wooden club, and a lot of time to spend. Jumping around, smashing turtles, spiders and lions, picking up everything from fruits to game consoles, spoons, lighters... and then cooking it. Just like the Neanderthal men did.

Apart from the absurd concept of the game, it offers better graphics, and a more versatile gameplay than its prequel. After every few levels you face a big, boss-like monster you have to deal with.

If you think about it, it's like an early version of Serious Sam. Kill monsters by tapping the keyboard until your fingers get numb. Isn’t it fun?? Of course it is, what with all the secrets, giant hammers and cute angry lions.

If you are after some pure careless fun, then this is the game I'd recommend. The only objection I have is that you have to start over from Level 1 each time you lose all your lives. Although this can be prevented by noting the passwords that can be found on each level.

All in all, Prehistorik 2 is a really fun game to play: No complicated story to follow, infinite opponents to defeat, and for some people a few sweet childhood memories, too. That's why I rate this game a big 4!

I've tried to start it under Windows XP, but I couldn't get it to run. I'd suggest running it in DOSBox. I did, and it ran perfectly.
