This is a short and fun action game based on the James Bond movie (starring Timothy Dalton). It follows the story through five different levels. You must take your place as the secret agent 007, stop the evil Sanchez and destroy his drug empire.

The game was published for different computers; the PC version can't be called a good one because it is too easy. Graphics are not so bad, although the background could look much better, and the animation is smooth. Comparing the PC version with C64 and Amiga leaves it far behind (this game was a popular one, especially on C64).

In the first level you control a chopper. Keep it above the road because you'll be destroyed immediately if you hit a house or a tree. The enemy will shoot from small grey houses or from the roofs. Shoot them or just avoid their bullets. You have to reach the entrance to the enemy base and drop Bond somewhere. You will see a small box with a word "JUMP" below it beside your chopper if you are in the right position. Press the "FIRE" button, Bond will jump out and you'll finish the first task.

The second stage is probably the most interesting. Bond is going through the enemy base fighting with his gun. If you hold the "FIRE" button you will see that the aim can be rotated left and right. After that, Bond will shoot in that direction until you change it again. You have three clips but more can be found as you shoot down bad guys. There is more than enough ammo, but if you waste it all without seeing another clip to pick up, you're in trouble. You can also shoot barrels which explode and may kill the enemy if he stands near it. As you shoot, ammo in the clip inside the gun drops out until you put another clip in - very nice. If enemy shoots you, a bullet hole will appear in your kevlar vest (up to five before you lose a life). At the end you will find another chopper.

You are in the chopper again and have some sort of a hook. You must catch a plane by its tail with the hook. Just keep pressing the "FIRE" button while you are aiming for the tail. When you catch it, Bond will jump out again (this time with a parachute).

Now you are swimming and have only your knife. Boats will try to run you over and some bad guys will try to shoot you. From time to time, the enemy won't come out and you will see the tail of the plane before you. You have to avoid the boats, kill the enemy soldiers with your knife and you will obtain a single harpoon shot. Now wait for the plane to show it's tail and shoot it, but keep holding the "FIRE" button. You are now attached to the plane and must get onto it while it's speeding up. As you slowly move towards the ariplane, you must avoid rocks.

In the last level you have to destroy four trucks that are transporting drugs. You are in the plane and have to jump out on the enemy truck (a small box will appear again). Now you drive a truck (good thing is that it is a little harder to drive since it is a heavy truck) and you have to run over  small green cars that shoot rockets at you, or push them off the road. Enemy trucks can only be pushed off. Finish this and you'll get a congratulations message and the game will start all over again.

Levels are interesting but are so easy that it will kill the action feeling. Maybe you'll have some trouble with the first and the second level, but catching the plane and the swimming level (that used to be the hardest on C64) are too easy. Even in the last level you can just drive a truck without avoiding enemy missiles. Another important reason for this game being too easy is the enemy AI. The C64 version had much better AI; the enemy aimed at you better and were smarter when moving, boats were firing at you, there were more rocks... It required lot of skill. Just as if you were an agent thrown into the lions mouth. Only on the PC, you feel like you're still in training.

The game is surely worth a try. Actually, if you want to try it, then you should finish it. Various levels will be interesting to every action fan and, offcourse, any Bond fan. Unfortunately, after you finish it, you'll hardly want to play it again (which is not the case in other versions), especially if you are an experienced action player. So, this game can't get more than a 2 out of 5. If it had been a bit harder, it would be at least be average, if not a very good action game like other versions.

One of the best movie games I've played as pathetic as that sounds along with "The World Is Not Enough". "007 A View to Kill" (1985) was text based and "James Bond The Duel" (1993) on Sega Genesis/MegaDrive looked good but played clunky like most movie platformers and had little tie in with the actual film. While this attempted a cinematic experience within it's hardware limitations. It's one of those extremely polished but extremely brief, adrenaline filled short games that gets the details right, as opposed to an average length game containing plenty of filler and repetition. It's like watching the car chase of a movie and skipping the rest. It had a lot of appeal when I played it in the early 90s, albeit with a high level of difficulty/frustration. It still looks good, strongly resembling Terminator 2 Judgement Day (1991) which is also available on Abandonia and which this must have inspired. Surprisingly satisfying but dam its unforgiving nature and short length.
