Dear Abandonia visitors: We are a small team that runs one of the largest DOS Games websites in the world. We have only 3 members of staff, but serve 450,000 users and have outgoing costs like any other top site for example: our servers, power, rent, programs, and staff. Abandonia is something special. It is a library of old games for you to download. It is like an old gaming arcade with all the old games in their original format. Abandonia is a place where you can find great old games and have fun four hours and years. To protect our independence, we are dependent of our friends using the site. We run on donations averaging around 6 USD (5 Euro). If everyone reading this gave the price of a cup of coffee, our fundraiser would be made easier. If Abandonia is useful to you, take one minute to keep it online for another year. Please help us forget fundraising and get back to Abandonia.

When Abandonia was founded it was to collect and present all old games where the copyright protection had been abandoned, hence the term ’abandonware’ and the site name Abandonia.com. We are still doing our best to keep the site open and free and will appreciate your support to help it stay that way.

‐ Thank you from the Abandonia Team

We are trying to make it easy for people in every country to donate. Please let us know how we could make it easier for you.

Please give whatever you can to help us.

Play hard, you'll forget the fear...

"Juggers! Juggers! Juggers coming! Juggers coming!"

You could hear this outcry exactly 20 years ago. Movie The Blood of Heroes (AKA Salute of the Jugger) was released on the 19th October 1989 in Australia. It is about brutal sport in post-apocalyptic world of despair. Juggers are the ones with the courage to dream of more, playing against people of the same kind while every match could be their last.

This is one of my favorite movies, but since there is no game based on it, we will add two games today: one that is post-apocalyptic and one that is about another brutal sport.

The first addition for today is Roadwar 2000, unique text-based RPG. Gather your road gang in post-apocalyptic USA and become the strongest one. Time for some hard playing, or more precisely, for some hard driving.

Shōgun - An Adventure in Japan

Immerse yourself in the world of feudal Japan, as seen from the eyes of John Blackthorne, captain of the Dutch trading ship Erasmus. The Land of the Rising Sun is struggling in a new era dominated by Europe's brave voyagers and by internal conflicts. This Infocom IF game is based on James Clavell's book with the same name, which also inspired an earlier arcade game and a TV miniseries.

Thanks to Saccade's scanning magic, we've added today the James Clavell's Shogun manual, the boxshots, a map of the World as it was known in 1600, and two bonus scans which contain trivia info on: The Samurai Blade and The Soul of the Samurai. Enjoy!

Boxshots: The Incredible Machine 2

An action of creation which is equal parts art and invention. It's the craft of scanning video game boxes. You've been at it for hours, you know you placed the box carefully, did the appropriate settings for your scanner and used your picture editing program - but the boxshot still doesn't look right!

There's much to confuse you: How do I get the box between the glass platen and the lid, it's called flatbed after all? How many DPI do I scan? Why is the scan tilted even though the box still lies in the by myself well-defined right angle? Is there a non-arbitrary way to cut off the background? To which pixel dimensions do I resize? Which JPG quality grade do I choose? Is the outcome small enough in filesize?

Don't bother too much! Go ahead, warm up your computer, limber up your brain again - and scan like mad. Just as ultimaIX did for The Incredible Machine 2.

There's a whole New World out there!

Well, you can't have one without the other - Colonization I is unprotected, folks! Go out and conquer the New World! Yes, it's about as politically correct as putting Stalin's face on a T-shirt, but it sure is fun!

Go out there and build a colony, secede and proclaim yourself emperor of the world! (Just don't tell your psychologist about your evil fantasies.)

Boxshots: Freddy Pharkas

The year is 2009; the setting, sub-ESA Abandonia. ultimaIX uncovered a treacherous plot to turn our thriving metropolis into a ghost town. With scanner and boxes, he defended our bucolic burg from a catastrophe: no boxshots!

So come on, buck-a-roos! Strap on your spurs, saddle up your Palomino, and...

...have a look at the boxshots by frontier scannerist ultimaIX

Federation of Retro Games - Newpost 0911.1

DOS... the Final Frontier.

These are the voyages of the starship Abandonia. Its continuing mission: to explore strange old games; to seek out old adventures and new extras; to boldly go where no website has gone before.

Captain ESGMaster's log, suplimental, stardate 2009.111.

The Abandonia has arrived in the Sol System and has recovered an ancient artifact called "Starflight 2 - Trade Routes of the Cloud Nebula". After doing a lot of research, Ensign Geezer found an old advertising for it. Lt. Cmd. Marko_River has found out how to implement it's capabilities with the ship's main computer and is now available for download!

One-Legged One-Eyed Pirate Clown on a Monocycle

This one's kind of difficult to guess... It's probably a lie anyways. Or is it?! Well it's not as wicked as something taken from Condemned, Manhunt or American McGee's Alice, but it's close and it's better, because it stands somewhere at the roots of the horror genre: Alone in the Dark 2. Edward Carnby is back again to solve another mystery, this time filled with voodoo, pirates, and of course, ugly polygons. The only thing left for you is to figure out what was lie and what was truth in the title of the newspost.

The main event today is the addition of another manual version, the Copy Protection Cards and the Hint Forms which you would've used for ordering hintbooks, also we should definitely not forget the XMas edition of The Mystery Examiner, a one of a kind newspaper about murders, kidnappings and criminals who corrupt our innocent society. You can check it out NOW thanks to our crewmate Apple24.
