01-05-2006 Time for some abandonware related news! Exiled Gamers have started an abandonware campaign in an attempt to provoke a response from game publishers. The ideas aren't revolutionary - re-release of titles at budget prices in a downloadable form (no instructions, box or technical support) or perhaps as 'freeware' and let the gamers find a copies through community sites. You can see the list of suggested games here. However, this time there is a petition included, and it has gotten quite a publicity through the likes of Slashdot, MobyGames, Gamers Hell etc. That is why we have decided to join the club and help spread the word. As a conclusion, let me quote grades from Da Fast Lane: "Chances of convincing even a small number of game companies are probably small, but trying won't hurt. Sign the petition, feature it on your site/blog and cross your fingers!" posted by Kosta // 01-05-2006 // permalink

10-05-2006 Just a quick reminder, DFL awards will be taking place in 20 minutes (21:00 GMT) so make sure you tune in and cheer for Abandonia and Abandonia Reloaded ;) There are two options, you can download a standalone exe or watch them online through your browser. However, keep in mind that by downloading the exe you won't be able to take part in the live chat during the ceremony! posted by Kosta // 10-05-2006 // permalink
Highway Hunter As far as side-scrolling action shooters go, Highway Hunter looks pretty cool.
I haven't played it yet, but Tom Henrik certainly did, and described the experience in the review you can get to by simply clicking on this sweet looking airplane. And if that appeals to your tastes, you can download it and try it out on your own, too! Now isn't that just great? posted by aaa_admin // 11-05-2006 // game // Action // downloadable // permalink
Galaxian Today's game is old. Really old. But nice. Really nice. It's Galaxian, a pretty good Space Invaders look-a-like. A worthy addition to our Crypt and a nice piece of gaming history. posted by aaa_admin // 13-05-2006 // downloadable // game // The Crypt // permalink
Baal Man today was a tough day. I think I'm gonna take a nap in a while. While I'm resting, you could as well check out Baal, an action shooter where you, the hero of the day, have to stop a wicked fiend who stole a powerful war machine. Luckily, he was dumb enough to dismantle it and spread the components over the various levels, so you still got a chance to save the world! posted by TheVoid // 16-05-2006 // downloadable // game // Action // permalink
Star Control 3 Some would consider today's update a real treat, but the editor thought otherwise. The game in question is Star Control 3 and by reading Javier's in-depth review you can find out why he thought it doesn't live up to its predecessors names. Try it for yourself and let us know what you think in the forums! Happy gaming! posted by Kosta // 17-05-2006 // downloadable // game // Strategy // permalink

Krustys Super Fun House Being a true Simpsons fan I'm glad to see our update for today feature my favorite neurotic clown: Krusty! Fantasy Empires Hello ladies and gentlemen! We're really pleased you're attending today's update and, as a token of our appreciation, we'll be adding a truly excellent one to our Strategy section. Fantasy Empires puts you in charge of a kingdom, your purpose being to overcome the neighbouring territories to form a true Empire. Pretty standard quest if you ask me, but heck, it's in Dungeons&Dragons! posted by aaa_admin // 21-05-2006 // downloadable // game // Strategy // permalink
Magic Candle, The Today Abandonia breaks another treshold. Counting this update we now have 800 classic games on the site, and we're still going strong! Our 800th game is a 1989 classic RPG very similar to the early Ultima games. In The Magic Candle (kindly reviewed by MarkUK) you're trying to prevent a demon from escaping from a candle... posted by aaa_admin // 23-05-2006 // downloadable // game // RPG // permalink
23-05-2006 In other news: Yesterday I added the 4000th game to the AW List. Which was another milestone in Abandonian History. The list is slowly becoming the best online resource for software status. Whee! posted by Tom Henrik // 23-05-2006 // permalink

25-05-2006 Kosta managed to connect the site to the AW list earlier this day, which means that there won't be differences in status between the two. Ever again. It also means that some games on the site have suddenly changed status, and this will continue in the future as well. Whenever a game is sold, it will immediately be reflected on the site. And when it isn't sold anymore, it will be updated accordingly again. And so on. There are still some slight issues that needs to be fixed before everything is running smoothly, but it should be fixed really soon. This site is just getting better and better. ^_^ posted by Tom Henrik // 25-05-2006 // permalink

Street Fighter Today's update is the prequel of what may be the most famous beat-'em-up game in history- Street Fighter II. Although it doesn't keep up with its well-known sequel, Street Fighter deserves a try to see where it all started. posted by TheVoid // 28-05-2006 // game // Action // not downloadable // permalink
